Do they have to be alive?

It's a tough call. Freddy and Love would bring back a veteran feel, but they have not done much in the Cup matches lately. I'm hoping this will be the year that some of the younger guys really step it up a notch. It was good seeing Chad Campbell win again. Assuming that the top 8 stay the same as they are now (very unlikely) with Tiger, Furyk, Johnson, Austin, Cink, Durant, Mahan and Kelly then I would go as follows: Steve Stricker, Lucas Glover and possibly Boo Weekly. Boo is a reach, but I like his attitude and I would love to see him match up with Sergio.

I would look for at least two of the top 8 guys to play their way out or two of the other guys to play their way on. This will be the toughest team to make yet. There are only 8 spots that are guaranteed and 4 Captain's picks as opposed to the 10/2 breakdown from the past.

Are the Americans confident about 2008 Ryder Cup, out of interest?

I doubt it. Right now there is no reason to be. Until we start playing the matches on paper, the U.S. will be big time underdogs. Regardless of what the World Rankings say. I almost feel like we should take the top 6 US qualifiers and then the 6 Americans that finish 126th or worse on the money list. Tell those guys that if they win they get a 1 year exemption on the PGA Tour. You can bet they would play their asses off.

It definitely appears that the Americans play without the same passion and pride as the Europeans, money should not be used but as you can see in golf (and a lot of other sports for that matter) Patriotism just isn't a good enough motivator any more to achieve top sporting performance

I would bet Stricker plays his way into the top 8.

And I like the Weekley pick.
