Short Play Lesson

Well, not long ago I started a thread requesting tips for my appalling short play. On Saturday I had an hours lesson, and learn't a fair bit, although during my lesson I looked like a spastic on heroin. I didn't know that on an incline or decline your body should be at the same angle as the slant. I didn't know that your back swing should be the same length as the follow through, and I didn't realise the importance of my left hand. All that apart, the one thing that made all the difference is being told that I should narrow my stance when chipping the ball. For the life of me I can't really understand why, however, for some strange reason it appears to have given so much more control over the ball. I played with a twelve handicapper today, who needless to say is far better than me, but according to him my short play is apparently as good as his. 

I sometimes think that golf improvement can be far more rapid through small tips and the odd eureka. For example, a short while ago I improved my driving drastically buy simply aligning my left foot nearer the ball. My putting improved when I ensured my body didn't move. Of course, not every tip works for every person, but those people who are prepared to listen and try different things, may well improve at a greater rate.
