Hoping someone can help me its a bit of a story which starts in 2010 when I had my left hip replaced ( I am right handed!) I played some of my best golf but in March 1013 I broke the implant right on the angle and to be ambulanced from the 6th tee..  the implant was replaced and all was well till the beginning of May I broke the implant again, this time towards the end of the prong that fits down the thigh bone..  I have had it replaced again but I dont want to go through this again in 3 years time..  My specialist has never seen a broken implant and now he has seen two in the same leg.. He also says he is not going to tell me to stop playing golf because the only reason he can keep doing the op is because of my fitness, muscle tone and bone density which is down to playing golf.. I wouldnt mind if I hit the ball a thousand miles with loads of torque or something, neither do I throw myself onto the left hand side violently..  My questions are- has anyone heard of this happening before?? plus could it be my flattish swing causing the trouble??  Thanks for sticking with it..

Is it the implant failing or your surrounding bone? While I believe you, in 10 yrs of orthopedics, I've never heard of the hardware breaking, other than a cup shifting or wearing. Interesting.

Woodzie, no the bone is fine its the stainless steel implant that is breaking..No one else has heard of it before either.. I am seeing the man on Monday hopefully he will have some sort of report or reason why this latest one broke!

What's the scoop, any explanations? If I'm reading your OP correctly, your current stem is good as it was recently replaced, correct? I'm sure it's just a wait-and-see game for now. Interested in your follow up - keep me posted!

Yes the implant was replaced for the second time on the 23rd June I am currently walking it in..   I expect to play golf again in the beginning of September. I recently saw the consultant again and viewed the xray of my hip as it is now...  it looks like a huge piece of pipework, if I break this one I dont think there is anything else was could go to..
