Can someone explain why bounce on a wedge is a good thing?

When I bought my wedges (SMT Durometer 49, 53, 59) I went for the least bounce I could find.  What I found was a wedge with a lot of bounce (12-15 degree) would "bounce" off the ground  just before the ball and cause me to blade the ball right over the green.  I know that a thin shot is due to a bad swing but with less bounce I may hit a fat shot and come up short but straight.  In my experience hitting a fat shot 50 yards instead of 150 yard bullet is preferred when you wanted to hit a high spinning shot to 90 yards.

My next complaint against bounce is for the flop shot.  If you have a wide sole and more bounce, when you open the face for more loft you also increase the bounce do you not?  If you are not sitting high in fluffy rough does that not take the flop shot out of play.  I get that a multiple angle grind can control some of this.

My last point would be; would a wider sole not accomplish the same thing as bounce.  Is the goal of bounce not to keep you from digging in?  Yes, you could not flop but it seems to me that a wide sole with little bounce would be more effective than than lots of bounce and a thin sole.  This might be the thought behind the XE1 wedge.

I am far from a scratch golfer and could use advice.  But when someone says "bounce is your friend," my knee-jerk reaction is "kill the bounce."  As a final thought my swing is very sweeping and I have no steep trap the ball swing.

Lots of things covered in your initial post: perceived problems with higher bounce wedges, bounce and flops, sole and bounce, and your sweeper downswing.  Here are some sources which will help answer your "all about wedges" questions.

First, these manufacturer sites address wedge selection factors such as downswing angle, sole grind, bounce and normal turf characteristics.
