I'm sure I have seen a thread about this before, but my searches turned up very little..

I've been trying to find an instructor.
One place wants $100 up front for five 30 minute lessons. (breaking down to $20 per lesson)

The next place wants $85 per one hour lesson and recommends no less then 5 lessons be taken.

That's a serious price difference for what appears to be the same service.

On my tombstone: "If this is the worst thing that ever happens to me, I'm doing just fine!"

The two pros at my course have the same length lessons and they are 20 dollar apiece...its just whatever the pro can get away with that people will still pay.

Who are these guys? I don't mean names, but: * Are they PGA? PGA Class A? Or just someone who takes money for giving lessons? * What percent of their time is spent teaching? * Do they have recommendations from students?

The guy that I go see for lessons mow is 30 dollars for a 45 minute lesson and he was far better than someone else that I saw that was supposed to be the best teacher in the area whose price was 65 dollars per 30 minute lesson.

So I guess that it depends on the way that the instructor teaches you and how comfortable you feel with the teacher.

Another thing is if the teacher gives you a quick fix then they are rushing out and you will be back with a different problem in about a week, but if they are rebuilding your swing then they are actually taking their time to help your swing progress so about 5 or 6 lessons are all you will need.

wow, i would love to pay $20/lesson!

i think it definitely depends on the area and the standing of the instructor. for instance, my coach is still in his pga apprentice status, however, he has tournament experience, loves to teach and help people, and he is doing his apprenticeship under a pga pro that won teacher of the year for so cal. this pro also is coaching a nationwide tour player that placed top ten in a couple of tournaments in 2007. for a lesson with the pga pro, his lessons go for $100/hr and you can only do hour lessons because he doesnt think that 30 mins is enough. my coach, the apprentice, can get between $40-$50 for a half hour lesson.

then again, everything where i live is expensive. and, im comfortable with my coach and he's a great teacher. i definitely think that there are great teachers out there for half the price that i pay, just not in my city. so make sure you talk with your prospective teacher about your goals and his teaching methods to make sure you are on the same page. my coach's methods have changed quite a bit since i went from just wanting a consistent swing to wanting to compete.

i think the 5 half hour lessons for $100 is a great deal, the only downside is if you dont like his teching methods after the first lesson you are screwed, you need to find somebody you are comfortable with

With my teacher, I paid for the first lesson at the one-lesson rate and then purchased a block of five for lessons 2-6 after I realized how much I liked his style (and after seeing my friends compliment my newfound ability to get the ball airborne).

So I guess I'm agreeing - if you're comfortable with this teacher, the lessons are a great deal.
