I have had mine for about 8 months now (it is 10.5 degree, reg shaft). At first i thought it was great but that was largely due to the fact I had been hitting a 3 iron of the tee for the previous 8 years due to a big big slice.

But I recently recieved a TM Burner 3 wood (15 degree, reg shaft) for Xmas and am finding I am hitting this roughly as far as the Superquad off the tee....... which as got me thinking I should trade it in for the Burner driver.

Has anyone else had distance issues with the Superquad?

Also, as a side issue, what effect would going from a 10.5 degree driver to a 9.5 degree one have on swing/distance?

Thanks in advance for any contributions,

the Burner was designed for distance - pure distance. have you tried the Burner driver? it's longer than the superquad, supposidly.

Could it be that its Winter and the ball doesn't run as far with the driver? I get no run out of my driver this time of year - UK would be slightly drier than Ireland but a good test would be in the summer or a dry course with run.

10.5 to 9.5 - personally I have found that the variance in shots from where I aim is less with a 10.5 driver. I would have preference to being in play than an extra 10 yards - this won't be the same for everyone but that's how i roll.

Yeah I suppose that makes sense. I need to go hit some drivers and see the difference but you think it is about 10 yards in difference between a 9.5 and 10.5 degree loft.

I don't get much run summer or winter, bigger carry than most of my mates I play with but hardly any run which is very fustraiting. But I think that is because of the left to right shape of my natural shot. How is winter golf over in the old country? Its sludge, swap and mud here! Well it is in Liverpool where I am from

well i'm just putting out my experience - i went from 8.5* driver to 10.5* - I don't get any run ever (if anything it goes backwards in the winter )

Could have something to do with the shaft - i've never been fitted before, just tried out a few models. I just tried TaylorMades driver fitting on their website - reckoned i should be hitting a 9.5* Superquad with a TP 65 Stiff shaft (lower torque than mine, promoting a lower ballflight). I choose accuracy over distance on the fitting system, the Burner would probably have come up if i wanted distance more.

If you like the burner 3 wood, you'll like the driver. Have you tried the draw bias in the SuperQ? It's probably not going as far because of the side spin you put on the ball.

Ireland is so wet - but i'm staying indoors this month! England is generally warmer but we get the same weather fronts!

I have the Burner 3 wood, love it. I get about 210yrds - 215yrds with it. And I have been testing Superquad and the Burner Drivers. Both are in the low 240's for me. The superquad has a slightly deeper face, which I like, as swing arc is my biggest issue with a driver. I definitely think is a tad more forgiving with the superquad. The Burner driver does what it advertised, at least in the feel. The shaft is longer, lighter, I seem to swing faster, the face seems hotter. May be is all in the mind. But I don't think I get anymore distance than the superquad, if it is indeed longer, it is not drastic or consistent, at least with my swing. For me, is a toss up.

polred, i would suggest getting the superquad fitted for your swing,i'm assuming its off the rack.

A club pro suggested the superquad after assessing my swing on a launch monitor, but I have improved my swing since then, I have been able to cut out the large slice I used to suffer from, though not totally.

I am hitting my 3 wood between 220-235 off the tee, the superquad a tad more on an excellent strike, but its the overall feel and swing that i like from the Burner

I am playing the SuperQuad w/ a 9.5*, was playing an 8.5* Titleist 983K, I seem to be getting about 10-15 yards extra with the TM.

As for 9.5* vs 10.5*, initial launch angles may be higher with the 10.5, but your side spin may be slightly reduced on mishits off center. As with anything in golf, getting fitted will show you how the launch, backspin, and side spin can be affected with the different lofts.

    • I imagine there might be a fine, that's what the PGA Tour does for bad behavior.  Not sure if the USGA has any kind of Code of Conduct that would address this.
    • I've used this for planning, good information about courses, regions, transport, and lodging. Amazon.com  I prefer to stay in B&Bs, and have enjoyed playing many non-famous courses.  Hiring a car for many weeks is likely to be pretty expensive, but train travel is possible between regions.  I don't know about taxis for getting to courses, but that might be cheaper than hiring a car.  I certainly recommend staying in St Andrews for a while, there are 6 courses within the St Andrews Trust, and a shuttle will take you from one to the other, not including the Castle Course.  Beyond that, there are a dozen or more good courses within an hours drive, including Carnoustie and Kingsbarns and a bunch of lesser-known but fabulous courses.   Good luck, Scotland is a fabulous place!
