Those are better. Watch where the shaft points at the top, too. Bit over-rolled there (laid off).

Yeah - I'll keep an eye on that - I've been across the line for about forever, so I assume that I want to overexaggerate the laid off bit to get it closer to square when I take a real swipe at the ball.

Scooted over to the range today in the rain to see how it goes when I try to hit one. The rehearsals I think look reasonable, but then get worse when I try to hit the ball. I think it’s better than it was but still a ways to go. Including the rehearsals in these two videos. One dtl and one fo. I still don’t understand what I need to do on the way down to stop that fugly shoving outside of the hands. Seems unlikely that will just disappear when I get the backswing position right. I have a feeling that lack of understanding of the next step might be holding me back some.

Got told off yesterday for doing full swings and full speed swings so went to the range this lunchtime and did some slow speed stuff and freezers. A few videos from my session.

First few are DTL then some FO

This one is of me looking at the club on the way back. I think I get my arms lifting all the way back, not that you’d know because YouTube keeps glitching on me.

Second one is two slow backswings. This glitches the first one but the glitch looks like a pretty good position so I’ll live. Second one works. Then another swing back and hit. When I’m not watching or really focusing on it it seems that my upper arm doesn’t lift at first, rather stays roughly where it is and I add the lift at the end so the club comes a bit more inside. I think that’s what I’m going to focus on.

This one glitches a bit too but it’s really just pausing. This shows the club coming a bit more inside but not as laid off at the top

Then a couple of face on ones

And lastly one smoothie and one freezer at normal speed

Quite happy with how this went. I can see my arms are better when I take it slower. Also while I’m still pitching my arms out it doesn’t seem to be as extreme as yesterday. Light at the end of the tunnel 🙂

Range again today. A few freezers and a few smoothies. If I add a little speed I swing further arms go deeper and lower and more across again. Really like where this freezer got to on backswing:

This is a smoothie (ish). Clubhead tracks up the hands nicely but the things go a bit wrong:

At normal speed:

Lastly one shortish pitch shot. Pitching some days I come out and can drop it on the flag. Other days it’s going sideways. Like missing right or left by 10 yards from 50 yards and nothing in between. I suspect it’s from the hands coming out and the cut across. If I release it on that line it’s going left. If I hold it off it’s going right and then it’s timing. When it’s off it’s off. Feels like if I can get that under control it will tighten up a lot.

Trackman place today. I broke my tripod so could only film by hand the video the venue’s cameras generated. This is an 8 iron. Amazing how odd this feels relative to how it looks. Not similar!

    • Went back to controlling my knees. That part was getting a bit sloppy when I worked on my backswing. Right hip didn't slide or gain internal rotation. I would just rotate back and around and the left knee would be in a bad spot. Really focusing now on keeping my left knee very stable and straighter in the backswing. I can't go back to the old pattern of overturning the hips. I was returning to my old pattern to time my downswing. Turn forever.  Left knee controls both knees and hips, acting as an anchor. Feel like it straightens a bit.   Hinge sooner and faster. Not in a way that sends the hands out and flips the club over. I still noticed when the hands get to A2.5, the hands would want to flip over and flatten the club out a ton.  Still trying to figure out how to roll the forearms a bit open and not just roll the club inside a ton.  Figure out the timing to get the hands down. Still getting a bit of right elbow collapsing in the downswing because the arms are too high when I turn. Everything is happening sooner now. If the hips are controlled, the backswing is shortened. Because it is shortened I don't know when to get the hands down and I just turn because the downswing is a go.  Very slow (50%) swings are decent.

    • Day 207-12 Wider backswing and arm reconnecting in downswing. Did a much better job with proper wrist movements through downswing today.
