OK. Here is the situation. I just bought a BEAUTIFUL second set of Ping Eye 2's BeCu off of ebay for a steal. They might end up being my main set now. They are in amazing shape. Anyway, they came with BRAND NEW Ping Velvet Grips, but they are the Mid Sized (Gold) color coded grips. My hand is 7 1/2" and my longest finger is 3 1/2". Ping says I am standard (White). ALL of my other clubs are standard sized grips. We have has horrible tornados and rain this week, and now it is 20.o outside, so there is no way I can take them to a range to feel them out. It is like a frozen swamp on all of the courses around here. I have tried to swing them in my office, and even in my yard, but I just can't tell how they feel. They don't feel bad, but they do feel very different. What should I do? I can either spend about $55.00 and have them re-gripped and be done with it? Or, since they are BRAND NEW, will I really notice that much of a difference? They are, as I said, in perfect condition. What, if anything, will too big of a grip do to your ball / swing? It is, after all, only 1/32 of an inch bigger. Any advice would be great.

The biggest thing with grips is that it affects your hand position and wrist break enough to throw off timing. It's not hard to adjust, but some adjustments can take you out of your natural swing and cause you to compensate with some bad habits.

i would consider changing them.
bigger grip will be harder to release.
grip size recommanded for me is at 1/64" bigger than std
but after i got them, they felt so much bigger
now i want to go back to std size
sometimes my hand hurts from having to hold on to the club when i swing

I also would recommend changing them to the standard size. That 1/32nd will make a difference in your release. If you start hangin' 'em out to the right, you'll know...but why put yourself through that? If money is not an issue, just do it now while it's cold so you'll be ready when the temp rises.

Go out and rub those new grips in the dirt and mud. They won't be new anymore.

Well... Great advice all around. Thanks. I did exactly what you all suggested. I took them into Golf Galaxy to be re-gripped to standard size. Two different people there tried to talk me OUT of re-gripping them. I guess they don't need the business? No, they are all just horribly Lazy!!! Anyway, I decide to take my 5, 7, and W into the launch monitor and hit away. The feel was just as I thought it would be. A fat, dull feel at impact. I have a natural draw when I hit my irons and hybrids and a natural fade when I hit my driver and 3W. If I miss hit a shot with any club I ALWAYS pull it. I pushed every shot. Plus, my hands just didn't feel right at all. So, I took them up to the counter, handed the guy 8 Ping standard velvet grips and that was that. I just picked them up, it is 50.o today, and I am off to get in a quick 9 before the sun goes down. Thanks again!!!

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
