Man everyone hits there 3-wood with regular shafts 300 yards consistently on the internet. As a matter of fact, with my old 3-wood(which coincidentally had a regular shaft), I was EASILY putting em out there 310 when the fairways were running slow and sometimes 350 when the ground hardened up a bit!!!!

I disagree, Grip, posture, and stance are important, but not fundamentals of a golf swing. Fundamentals of a golf swing are more like having a FLAT left wrist at impact, having your body rotating the club, not the arms, and having a square clubface at impact. Look at Jim Furyk; All kinds of things go on during his swing but he has a flat left wrist at impact and probably the most square clubface at impact on tour

As long as you are getting a lesson from a PGA professional or someone recommended to you by an experienced good player you shouldn't need to ask anything. The best advice I can give you is just be quiet, listen, and do exactly what they tell you. After you hit a few shots, the teacher will know exactly how to mold you and teach you the fundamentals of a good swing. As Hank Haney was constantly saying to Rush, and Ray Romano during the Haney Project TV show, just shut up, listen, and do EXACTLY what they tell you. Most teachers have seen countless swings and swing flaws and they will know how to get you on the path to a fundamentally sound golf swing.

Taking the range to the course

I used to be in the same boat as you. It is not mental, it is about not having the fundamentals of a good swing ingrained in your brain that you can trust. Once you have those fundamentals in your brain and know exactly what you need to do to hit a good shot and you will have more confidence. Go get a lesson from a PGA pro. They are relatively expensive, but after 1 or 2 lessons, they can teach you the fundamentals you need to know so you know exactly how to hit a good shot. I took one lesson, shot a 78 today after not being able to break 90 -
hell yeah..im in jersey...going to be like 45. as long as it is sunny it is a great day for golf
-
just tee it real low...its like you get to hit your shot off a mat but better

I've gotten the cops called on me multiple times for hitting golf balls. I hate NJ
-
Usually if it is late in the day a lot more people who are very new are out there smacking balls around. Seems like if it just happened that once you are over-reacting a little bit. It isn't like they were yelling around screaming and it was late in the day well after a golf courses peak times. I agree though...the adult advising them needs to be an adult and tell them how to properly act on a golf course.

Yeah, was quite a shame. One hole I tripled because I putted the ball a little too hard down a slope...rolled off the green and down a huge hill...

First time in any sort of sanctioned match. Played from the blacks, course played 7200 yards. Shot a 101. Three putted 8 times and 4 putted twice. Is this normal? lol

Go to the practice range, hit a bucket of balls. Then chip and putt for a while Then go play a round Hit another bucket or two to fix what mistakes you made rinse and repeat every day Nothing has helped my game more than simply playing a round every single day Anyone can beat balls on the range for 2 hours and hit great shots...playing on the course is a different story

How to deal with the mental game?

Ugh it is such a fine line though. If I try to hard I play like shit, if I try to little and try to stay relaxed I play like crap. -

you are right. so damn right even the pressure I put on myself to perform on the course is too much for my mechanics I went out today by myself, started great went par-par-bogey...hit some really great shots... then it all fell apart...was slicing and topping balls like crazy. It almost makes me want to quit golf. I couldn't hit a decent iron shot to save my life (driver was still good though) I was so upset after my round today. After my round I went out to my backyard 2 hours after playing and pured every single club in my bag, swing felt great, no problems what so ever. What is wrong with me -
It's too easy. After having constant snow on the ground I was forced to practice on a mat. Because of doing that so much I developed a flip rather than a lag because I could get away with it while still hitting good shots. I go out to play a round the other day and made myself look like a fool Feels bad man =/

How to deal with the mental game?
tanktwo2 replied to tanktwo2's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Thanks for the replies guys...I just went out and bought Zen Golf, by Dr. Joseph Parent. I'm going to get serious about doing the same preshot routine every time, seems to be exactly what I need. I'll look into the others ones -
im not saying it is like a hangover... My mind just drifts, hand-eye coordination isn't quite as sharp the next day. focus is the most important thing in golf and marijuana does the exact opposite
-
Do what makes you happy The only problem is your wife and kid. If you wanted to get serious about golf you probably should have done it before having children. Playing 3 rounds a week is a lot when you have a young kid

Thanks...i'll definitely look into it. -
I can normally hit the ball great, whether at the range or in my back yard. Hit everything flush, just feels like I couldn't hit a bad shot if I tried. When i'm on the course or if someone is watching, I have a horrible time trying to focus and hit a good shot. It's so damn embarrassing because I know I can play well. I'll be on the course by myself, shoot mid 70's, and hit great shot after great shot. Then I go play a round with a guy who won't shut up and hit high 80's --low 90's It's extremely disheartening because I practice so much and try so hard..lol anyone have any tips?
-
Yeah probably was an off day. Read an article about how smoking pot can impair your coordination and concentration the next day. My concentration seemed to be horrible
-
I was at a party the other day...needless to say me and my buddies decided to roll a joint. The next day I went to play a round of golf. It was the worst rounds I have ever played..couldn't focus on anything, topped the ball and sliced and shanked constantly. The sick part is, week before without smoking the day prior, I shot a 76 and played pretty good for the 2nd round of the year. anyone have any experience with this? I don't think i'll ever be smoking pot again.

sounds easy but that would involve purchasing new grips and a pipe cutter... Sounds fair enough. you win I hate my shitty sharpro grips anyway
