  1. Heartfelt congratulations. Going low can be more unnerving than shooting 102.
  2. The back of the ball. When I tee it up or putt, I place the ball name in the back with just a white showing on top. That gives me something even smaller on which to focus.
  3. My Newport is sitting in the corner. I cannot line it up consistently. Alignment is the biggest problem with my game. I can't blame it entirely on the putter but I can say it doesn't help me any. I'm using an Odyssey two-ball now. I know I'll hit the hole from five feet in with that one.
  4. Yep, I have a thought. As others have said, the 58 and 60 are so close that you are essentially carrying the same club twice. You could ditch one of those unless you have some shots you developed for those specific clubs. Your PW is around 48 degrees or so. That's the big gap. My PW distance maxes out around 125 but I can make it a 100 yard max by gripping down to the end of the grip and/or opening the face. I settled on these: PW =< 120 51* =< 100 54* =< 85 56* =< 75

    Hangover

Keep a pint of Canadian whiskey in your bag.
  6. That's about as well as it can be explained.
  7. Why on earth do you like him? I think Tim Herron is a more charismatic figure. Don't believe me? Watch his Playing Tips from the Pros.
  8. I have no reason to believe this will be the battle on Sunday afternoon. Please let me know when this has ever happened.
  9. I don't know and I don't really care. I am sure it involves not taking a leak wherever it's convenient. Tough luck girls. Wear a catheter.
  10. I use my spoon at least twice a round. I have seen few courses that don't have some short par 4s that are short for good reason. When that extra 30 yards brings in unacceptable risk, I love the three wood.
  11. Holed out an 8 iron for eagle this week. Hadn't done that in a while.
  12. If the owners want to put kidney shaped greens and split greens on their courses, I'll pitch it over the thusly created obstructions without hesitation.

    Age

    I'm still old.
  14. This is not a lie. I once hit a 400 yard drive. It was downhill and downgrain on the Kaanapali course on Maui. If you haven't played in Hawaii, go now.
  15. Look at shaft fitting. Some guy named Ben Hogan said shafts are the most important element of the club.
  16. Johnny, Thanks for bringing this up. I think that ratio is the most accurate measure of a pro's season performance.
  17. That's the historical truth. There could be no "perpetual motion" machine because of friction. Those are the rules for most mechanical devices. I don't think it will always be that way. We will not depend on 19th Century based mechanical devices. With advances in atomic and sub-particle research, I think we will have something that approaches "free" in my lifetime (which ain't that much longer). Never say never. Never say always.
  18. In 1966 I bought my brother's 1962 Ford Falcon for $150. I thought I had a babe magnet. I have always been a little bit overly optimistic. In case you never saw one of these pieces of junk: Mine looked "better" than this one: Baby Moon hub caps. Moon, Moog, Holley, Champion Spark Plug and STP stickers all over the windows. 2 1/2" spring lifter in the rear. Looked like a racer. Had a 144 cube 6 in it. What a dope I was.
  19. "Laid the sod over that one" is a pretty common expression for hitting it fat around here. Well, I did play with a drunk dude who hit it so fat the 8 inch divot did flop over and cover the ball, which remained defiantly still. Second was me: funny and fun. Shanked a 7 iron tee shot on a par 3. Shanked a SW which hit a tree and the ball traveled the remaining 20 yards and dropped in the hole. How in the hell do you make a birdie without hitting one shot?
  20. If we are including rain delays, 10 hours to finish the Ohio Mid Amateur in 1993.
  21. I would feel like a nebbish with those. That doesn't mean you are. Apologies for not understanding Yiddish better than that.
  22. My left thumb controls everything.
  23. OJs celebrity affected the murder trial the most. Wealth was second: Johnny Cochran and the rest of the all-pro trial lawyers didn't come cheap. Third (IMHO) was race. Nobody likes to talk about that one recently. What comes around goes around. I won't know if I'm happy about it until the sentence comes down (hard, I hope).
  24. I dislike iron organizers, pre-slotted bags and iron covers. They all seem a little bit nebbish. I love to hear the clack of my irons. Oh, a golf bag is not supposed to be as organized as a surgical theatre (IMHO). I gave up most of my superstitious compulsions. I'm still working on some of them (e.g., three identical coins for ball markers.) I like it better when a little less than perfect organization reminds me that the real deal is me, a club and a ball.
