  1. I did not know that. I stand corrected.
  2. I believe that the courses Mstuk were referring to in England don't have a handicap requirement to play. I am all about playing a reasonable round of golf, time wise. As a higher handicap player, I am very cognizant of playing at a speed that doesn't slow the group behind me. When I have started to really have trouble in the past, I pick up my ball and move on. Not all golfers do this, I realize, but that is more of an education and etiquette problem. The whole discussion is hypothetical because the courses in question will never be opened for other to play. But to say handicap is the way to judge who should be able to play and who shouldn't is very short sighted IMO.
  3. So elitism is bad, unless you are the elite? I bet the 15 handicap or myself would enjoy the experience of playing one of these courses just as much as a lower handicap.
  4. I would say if you find a competent fitter, yes you will benefit. Whether or not you will find that at Golf Galaxy really depends on the day IMO.

    McCord

David Feherty wrote a great column about McCord and his illness in Golf Magazine. The column was written last month I think, but I can't remember for sure. You should read it. Hilarious.
  6. I have been doing a lot of reading about this lately. Yes weight lifting can improve your golf game. Erik was on the right track. Big bulky muscles can interfere with your swing. Golfers want long lean muscle. Most of what I have read has said to be lifting weight that you can lift for 12-15 reps, with plenty of stretching in-between sets. And yes, the chest is one area you really don't to get to bulky, because it will interfere with your swing. There are a couple of good books out that talk about golf fitness. I didn't buy any of them when I looked, just chose some of the better stuff out of while in the store. Some of the Men's Health books have little golf sections to read.
  7. I haven't lived around here very long. I still haven't made it south to Indy but I have play Meadowbrook in Anderson quite frequently, The Players Club in Muncie, and I have played Yule GC once.
  8. Are you referring to Hot Stix golf in Arizona or some of their affiliate programs? And have you been to either?
  9. Boy you guys were right about the picture quality. Those are some terrible pictures of some lovely women.
  10. I did a search on Hot Stix here and only found a little bit of info. Has anyone here been through a fitting from Hot Stix? If so, what did you think? Did it make any difference in your game? How much more would a set of irons cost (or other clubs) cost in comparison to someplace else? My game isn't good enough that I can justify a fitting like that. At least not yet. But I have seen different pieces written about them and I am curious what real people think.
  11. Count me in as another who would recommend the Vokey wedges. I tried the Callaways the other day and I didn't like them as much. So there is an opinion from a slightly less accomplished golfer.
  12. I am really looking forward to trying one.
  13. I am firm believer that range measuring devices should be legal. I don't currently own one, but I will at some point. Here is why: 1. Yardage information is available anyway. There is nothing to stop you from hiring a caddy or making your own yardage book. Why spend the time looking around for a sprinkler head when you can just take a quick measure from where you are. 2. I have to believe it would save time on the course. Public courses are my reality right now. On a busy Saturday anything that can save time is helpful. Sure it doesn't take that long to pace off a shot when you are alone, but when you have people waiting it would be nice to save the extra time. 3. It would be very helpful to beginning golfers. Too many of the rules and limitations in this game favor the elite, not the masses. I just don't see any real reason other then "we didn't do it my day, so it I don't see why we would do it now". In if that is the case, throw away the cavity backs, grab your persimmon woods and have a great day on the course. Me, I like technology. A range finder wouldn't increase the amount of ability I have, just add some convenience to my life.
  14. Thank you!
  15. Thanks for all of the advice. I went through the Ping fitting when I bought them. My swing has probably changed since then, due to some lessons. I know my scores have gotten better! I am going to see if I need some adjustments, but otherwise I think they are in the bag for a few more years. I have decided to look at some different wedges. We will see how that goes.
  16. This is a great list. Spot on what I was thinking, although I really want to squeeze Jack in someplace. I can't believe I just wrote "squeeze Jack in." Wow.
  17. I had them re-gripped at the beginning of this year. I doubt I will end up replacing them now. I think I have been reading too many golf magazines.
  18. Hello. I just thought I would throw out a few words about myself, being the FNG and all. I started playing golf about 4 years ago. So far I have seen some steady improvements each year. I can't seem to get enough golf. I play whenever I can, and read about golf when I am not playing. In my "spare time" I am a graduate student in psychology and a full time IT professional. Don't ask me, it seems to work. I was looking for a good golf community and my friends at www.google.com sent me here. I am looking forward to getting know everyone, and some great golf conversations!
  19. Ok, I have a question about purchasing new clubs. Right now I have a set of Ping G2s 5-PW, GW, SW, and LW (all G2s). I have had them for just shy of 4 years, which is about as long as I have been playing. So far, I have seen steady improvement since I started playing. Here is my question, I have been itching for new irons and wedges. I can't really think of any good reason to pitch the idea to the wife, or any good reason to actually buy new clubs other then just cause. Should I just save the money or do you think I would actually see a real benefit? If not now, when should I think about new clubs? I appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks in advance. My home course isn't that difficult (from what I can tell). I was pretty consistent 86-88 last year, with one or two holes that are out of control scores. I didn't play much worse when playing longer courses. Course stats: Slope: 111 Rating: 66.2 Yards: 5402
  20. Nothing like a six hour round of golf because people can't move. Count me in.
  21. Interesting. I didn't think much of the article when I first read it. Maybe I will give it more of a look.

    Keep Stats

I started Par-formance journals a few rounds ago. I am undecided at this point, but so far I like the amount of information I am recording.
  23. I work in IT. I will post a intro thread once I can create new threads.
