2011 WGC-Cadillac Championship at TPC Blue Monster
JordanJCaron replied to Zeph's topic in Tour Talk
It's amazing that no one has mentioned and but at the same time, it's because the golf industry analyzes the swing far too much. The problem is clearly between of the ears of Tiger and goes far beyond any swing issues. Think of what's going on in his head now based of everything that's happened. Yes he was playing good golf and sleeping around but he was still able to play great golf because no one knew at the time but that's changed and he's clearly embarrassed by this. The hell with going back to his old swing, he needs to go back to sleeping with lots of woman again! -
I like the Luke Donald call myself for two reasons. 1) The precision on his iron shots is deadly around Augusta with the undulated greens. His shots drop stone dead after a bounce or two and they don't spin hard away from the hole. 2) He is putting phenomenal and converting these precise iron shots. 'Nuff said! The way Zach Johnson played in 2007 is exactly how Donald is playing RIGHT now.

Who says architecture needs to be more innovative? Lets see more guys like Bill Coore, Ben Crenshaw, Tom Doak, David McKay Kidd, Gil Hanse and Jeff Mingay build new courses instead of the "yes sir" architects who build what the client wants.

I have played there twice and both times the course was too green and soft. The second time was last April so it's good to hear it's playing fast this early in the season. After watching the US Am last year, it seem like it would be a blast to play when it's firm and fast. As a side note, nice to hear the course is busy because I read an article a few months ago talking about it was struggling financially. Locals will have to support the course because Sea-Tac is not the world class golf destination.

What does the swing have to do with anything? It's the results that matter. I have a nicer swing than 30% of the guys on tour but everyone of them hits the ball better than I do. Yes they're amazing putters but they hit it much straighter and far more "flush" than your scratch weekend guy...

Seems my hypothetical suggestion didn't quite get across as everyone is talking about his playing career still. Is he going to be alright with being a journeyman the rest of his career if he doesn't pull it together? He'll have no problem getting into events based on his past but I just wonder how long he will pursue this if he doesn't show signs soon.

I have seen on two occasions announcers say a player is hitting a club more for a shot when in fact the close up of the player shows he hit less club. One instance was at the PGA in 2008 with Sergio and Feherty. Feherty said he hit 8 when it was actually 6 from 180 something into a 5 par. If this happened more and more than I would suspect they're trying make the players look superior but it's not and simply an announcer-caddie mix up. Trust me, they do not need to embellish anything with these players because they're really good!

Good points regarding this barrier we have thrown up about golf being out of reach. Still though, there are other costs associated with the sport. Balls, gloves, clothing and green fees are other areas that do add up even if you buy some old rags and beat up balls.

Couldn't have summed it up any better! Tonights episode has Mark balling out of of control dropping 5 g's on a new RV!!!! The telling point that this show is scripted was when John was telling Mark about the former house owner wheels and deals RVs. So we supposedly see Mark give him a call and set a time up. They do some editing to make us feel its the very next day and RV dealer guy comes rolling in to the house. It would have been believable if only for the fact that Mark and John were dressed in the same clothes, sitting in the same spots as the "PREVIOUS DAY" when Mark was flipping though the RV guide in the kitchen. It's really too easy to spot how scripted reality shows are these days.

The #1 clue your addicted to golf.....you have watched more than one episode of Pipe dream?! This show is so scripted and only golf addicts would watch it!

I'mt not sure if these club manufactures really want to go after the younger demographic. We don't have a lot of disposable income (drinks with friends trumps golf any day) and we can hardly afford green fees or memberships so why would we want to buy a new driver in exchange for 4 days of work? James is a friend from my junior golf days and i'm more impressed with with business than I am his golf game which is saying a lot as he was an incredible talent. He has simply picked out a niche market and done a hell of a job marketing to them. Makes no sense for someone who wears the X games style clothing to buy and wear Foot Joy saddles does it? Buying a pair of shoes that range somewhere between $90 and $135 is reasonable, buying new clubs isn't. To the original poster, does this mean the game is getting younger? By game do you refer to the the small minority of players that play the PGA Tour or the golfers who are out paying green fees? I really don't see the game getting younger but I don't work at a public course. Personally, the only ones who can answer that are the employees of the public golf courses.

This most likely boils down to the fact that Brandel is a traditionalist and feels that Tiger doesn't represent that game like some of the past greats. Brandel looks up to guys like Hogan, Nelson, Snead, Nicklaus, Palmer & Jones and always talks about the past and would rather see something else represent the game now.

Who would you like to see next on the Haney Project?

Did you see the one episode were Donald was going off on how good he was? That same episode Hank was analyzing his game and was decently impressed with his swing but not his stroke. Donald however thinks hes the best putter off all time and will NEVER listen to anyone. He would bring in viewers and already has a relationship with TGC so ya never know! -

Jamo, I could see MJ doing this. Golf Channel needs to think about viewers and who's going to be a big draw and will want to do it. I cant see any reason to pass this offer up unless you were really busy. -
I'm not sure how well his clothing line is doing. I don't see it in a lot of golf shops are hardly seeing any golfers wearing it. I'm sure the focus will be on growing all three brands given recent results. Either way he'll need to do something when of the course. I'm saying he should give back a little bit on the side.

Augusta comes down to the greens. Giving yourself make able putts is key out there and if you don't do that well, you won't be contending. This of course requires proper placement of the tee to although for a shot at the stick. I don't think Bubba has the razor fine precision or the nerves required for 4 rounds. With that being said he has two decent finishes there but has yet to shoot a round in the 60's. It sure would be awesome to see him at least contend. I don't recall seeing much coverage of him at Augusta but it would be awesome to follow him around.

They really need a low handicap player on the show. A celeb or athlete who plays around a 4-7 and is wanting to get to a scratch or better. Justin Timberlake comes to mind. -
Even if there aren't many Canadians in here, I'd still like to get some input on this idea. Given Mike Weir’s display at the Honda this week it would take a miracle to regain his card. It seems he has physically and mentally lost it and is in a very deep hole much like Steve Stricker was. It would be nice to see the story repeat itself but I personally don’t see it happen. His confidence is clearly shaken and things seem to be getting worse. A lot of work in many areas will be needed to retool his game. This all got me thinking as to what the future holds for this countries greatest golfer. I feel he’ll have a couple of options if two years go by without showing any improvement. He could give up the game and pursue other areas in life or try to grind out a living playing Nationwide and the odd PGA events. If he were to grind through this drought and keep his card, it would be very impressive. If that doesn’t happen, I doubt he’d play the circuit very long and would most likely turn his efforts to his other option, the Weir brands. The Weir brands include a clothing line, a winery and a golf design firm. Now regardless of what options he chooses, I’d like to see him get involved with Golf Canada in some way to work with their Player Development Program. It’s evident that we’re not turning out as many Professionals as Golf Canada would like and I strongly feel Mike Weir could turn that around. Here’s why. My years as a junior golfer occurred exactly the time Mike gained his PGA Tour card. Other juniors and me we looked up to him because he was the only Canadian at the time making any waves on the tour. Seeing a guy from this hockey crazed nation playing golf and winning on TV was amazing for us. All this was happening right around the time that Golf Canada launched its Player Development program geared towards turning out more Canadian Professionals like Mike. I was lucky enough to attend a first year camp in 2001 and learnt a lot about what was needed to play at such a high level. Looking back I feel that had some of us been given first hands accounts of what it took to play professional golf from a golfer who had been in our shoes before, we’d have more Canadians on the PGA Tour. Hearing just exactly how many hours he’d put in or what went through his head on a daily basis was important stuff that we never learnt. It’s one thing for a coach to tell you but when you hear it directly from someone’s mouth that has done it, there’s a lot more merit to it. If this somehow gets to Mike, then Mike, please give back to this country and assist in some capacity with Golf Canada’s Player Development program regardless of what happens. You have achieved plenty and it would be extremely beneficially for our top junior players and country if you were to give back and help. Your experiences need to be relayed to these young players and used in a positive way for our country. Regards, Jordan J. Caron
