Free club fitting after buying clubs?
BBailey replied to krupa's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I ended up getting Taylor Made Speed Blades. I really like them so far, and have no regrets. To be honest, the Speed Blades weren't even on my radar screen but I'm happy with my decision. I took a valuable lesson away from this process, and that was not to get hung up on any specific brand and buy what fits my game. -
Free club fitting after buying clubs?
BBailey replied to krupa's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
So here is how it worked for me yesterday at DSG. I went in to look at some irons, and the sales guy asked if there was anything I wanted to hit. I spent about an hour hitting several different brands of GI irons, during which time he explained that if I was serious about wanting to make a purchase he could do a fitting, which was included in the purchase price. We didn't talk about a fitting without a purchase, but I think I saw something in their Pro shop about $50 for a fitting. I decided I was going to make a purchase, and we did a fitting. He then determined shaft flex, club length and proper lie, and adjusted the lie angle on two different brands of 7 irons so I could narrow down my choice. After I decided which brand I wanted, he then spent the next 1.5 hours adjusting and tweaking the lie on each iron after I hit them on a lie board with impact tape. The fitting was waived at the time of the purchase. I was very happy with my experience, and love the new irons. -
RockBottomGolf - reviews trustworthy?
BBailey replied to Fat Slice's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have used RBG for the last 5 years, and have ordered at least half a dozen times from them; never golf balls though. My experience has been positive, and everything was as described. I have gotten some amazing deals from RBG, and recommend them to all my golfing buddies. As for customer service, I never had a reason to use them until my last order. My delivery was short 2 items, at which time I sent RGB customer service an email asking about it. I got my first answer within 30 minutes, explaining the item was being shipped from the manufacturer. Within approx. 5 minutes I got another email saying there going to get me a tracking number from the manufacturer, and apologized for the delay. In under an hour, I had a tracking number and another email with an apology from RGB for the delay in getting me the item in my 1st delivery. I have no complaints about RBG customer service! As for reviews, I have reviewed every item I have ever ordered. The "good, the bad and the ugly" all made it into the review, although it took a few days for the review to be verified. I highly recommend Rock Bottom Golf and will continue to use them for future purchases. -

Wilson D100 irons 4-GW ($199 new) and dozen B330 RX ($19) from Rockbottom Golf. -
SuperStroke 2.0 for me. Put one on a year ago, and my putting improved dramatically, especially from inside 15 ft. Bonus with the 2.0, it still fits in the putter well of my bag and doesn't hang up. Highly recommend!

I highly recommend the A12OS. I have been using this set for 2 years, and though I have been tempted to replace them with something else, I haven't found another set of irons I hit any better than these. I normally shoot low 90's with a SS of 90-92 mph, and I have regular flex graphite shafts throughout the set. I went to the graphite shafts after suffering an injury to my wrist, and these made a world of difference in reducing vibrations/shock to my hand and wrist. These clubs launch the ball high (for me) and land soft on the green, and I like the 7-gw performance around the greens. I don't have any experience with the Callaway's, but understand they are great club as well.

True Linkswear. I have always worn FJ Contours, but picked up a pair of True phx on sale the other day. I was impressed with how comfortable they felt on my feet, but had some reservations about how well these spike less shoes would perform on the course. I played 27 holes in some light rain the other day, and had no problems at all with slipping and my feet felt great afterwards. I will say the "zero heel drop" of these shoes is a different sensation, but I really felt connected to the ground and in balance during my swing.

Which golf balls do you use?
BBailey replied to jcooper5083's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I buy from golfballsunlimited.com and am really happy with their products and service/shipping. This company does not sell "refurbished" balls, only recycled. If you can live with a few very minor players marks and some balls with logos, give them a try. Good luck. -
Do golf shoes really need spikes?
BBailey replied to goodputt's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
just recently got a pair of True Phx shoes, and love the way they feel. I had the chance to play last week in the rain, and didn't have any problems slipping at all. Love these shoes!! -

Need a decent Rangefinder - Suggestions needed!
BBailey replied to Spyder's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have a Nikon LR550 that I love. It's a basic model with pin seeker technology that I picked up from TGW on sale for less than $150 a few years ago. This was my first rangefinder as well, and I didn't want to spend a bunch of money on something I wasn't sure about. I'm really happy with it, and I have yet to replace batteries after 2 years of regular use. Good luck! -

Taylormade Burner 2.0 Iron set questions
BBailey replied to loucksy731's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My SS is between 78-82 mph with a 6 iron and I play regular flex. I would suggest having a fitting to find out which flex is right for you. I must admit it was a blow to my ego to find out I hit better shots with a regular flex than a stiff flex, and it's been said that a lot of people play with a shaft that is too stiff. That was certainly the case with me, but I can't argue with the results. I also discovered most people don't care what flex you are using, they are too busy messing with their own game to pay attention. I don't know if you have access to any golf stores in your area, if so I would suggest going in and pay for an iron fitting. Most places I know will waive this fee if you purchase from them, but if you decide to purchase somewhere else then they still made some $$ and you will have the peace of mind knowing your buying the correct flex. Sorry, I can't speak to the differences between the Taylormade shafts you asked about. Good luck! -
A lot of shaft length threads, but...
BBailey replied to Second Chance's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
You can pick up lead tape at any golf store. I got mine at Dicks Sporting Goods, less than $5. It's self adhesive and you just cut it the length you want and apply it. You can add or remove it as needed without much hassle. Hope that answered your question. -
A lot of shaft length threads, but...
BBailey replied to Second Chance's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I had my Ping G15 cut down to 45" from 45.75. I am making much better contact in the center of the club face, which leads to more fairways hit. I don't feel I lost any distance, but picked up accuracy. Shortening the shaft did affect the swing weight, so I got some lead tape and headed to the range. I would hit about 10-15 balls, add a strip of lead tape to the the bottom of the club and hit another 10-15 balls. I repeated this until I got the ball flight I was looking for. I have no idea what the swing weight of my driver is, all I know is that I'm happy with it. I will never play with a driver length longer than 45" again, and am considering taking another 1/4"-1/2" off. Good luck. -
Opinions on Super Stroke putter grips?
BBailey replied to kcarile's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I put a Mid size 2.0 on my Odyssey #7 Metal X and LOVE it. I don't have large hands (medium size glove), but the 2.0 was just what I was looking for. I've tried the ultra slim 55 and super slim on some of my other putters, and ended up taking them off. In the past, the older model Superstroke had a "slick/slimy" feel to it when it was hot outside, and despite wiping my hands and the grip with a dry towel the feeling never quite went away. The NEW Superstroke has a much improved "tacky" feel to it, and I've had no problems so far. Bonus is the 2.0 grip still fits in the external putter well on my cart bag. Highly recommend the Mid Size 2.0. -
good site to get cheap golf balls?

I was in the same position as you, and was concerned about switching to a mallet. I decided to visit various golf stores in my area rolling putters from various manufactures within my price range

Best Push cart under $150?
BBailey replied to BBailey's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
My thanks to all who replied. I found a ClicGear 3.0 on CragisList for $110, and pulled the trigger on it. I haven't had a chance to get to the course yet, but no complaints so far. The thing is built like a tank, looks hardley used and came with a cover, water bottle holder and accessory bag that holds a rangefinder. I expect this should last me for some time. Hit em straight! -
Best Push cart under $150?
BBailey replied to BBailey's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Thanks for the reply. I was planning to get one that folds up into a compact size, but imagine I will still have to get a little creative when trying to put both the cart and clubs into the trunk. I bumped into a guy on the course the other day who had a push cart (Sun mountain something) and said he turns his cart around and pulls it when he comes to a hill. (sounded reasonable to me, but what do I know) He said he liked the push cart better than a pull cart because he thought it was easier to push his clubs rather than drag them, which is why I thought a push cart was the way to go. I guess I need to do some more research on the pros/cons of both. any recommendations on specific brands that are worth the money? Thanks again for the advice -
I want to get a push cart, but have never used one before and am looking for some recommendations. My budget manager (wife) has allowed me $150, and I am hoping for some help in selecting one within my price range. I know "you get what you pay for", but don't want some piece of junk that falls apart after a couple of rounds. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

broken golf spike. HOW TO REMOVE?
BBailey replied to golf55's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I don't have a solution for getting the spike out once it is broken, but a suggestion for how to prevent it in the future. before attempting to change the spikes, place your shoes in a shallow pan and add enough warm water to just cover the soles. Let the shoes soak for about 10-15 minutes, which loosens up all the crud. The spikes should then come out easily. After removing the spikes, I then thoroughly clean the soles with warm water and allow them to dry. Before inserting the new spikes, I spray a small amount of non stick cooking spray (PAM) on the studs of the new spikes and replace them in my shoes. So far, this "system" has worked for me, and I haven't had any further problems with stuck spikes. I change my spikes at least two times per year, and works with "Q loc" and "TriLoc" fastening systems. -
+1 on the Nikon LR550. I got mine about 2 1/2 years ago and haven't had a single problem with it. I has good range, picks up the target and locks on really fast. I got mine for $150 (new) when TGW was having a sale. The only "modification" I made was putting a small piece of Gorilla tape over the battery cover to keep it secured, as others said they had the battery cover come off unexpectedly. Mine has a yellow cover, which saved me from leaving it in the cart on a few occasions. I have found it to be excellent and highly recommend.
