If I could play 1 and only 1 brand from head to toe, driver to putter. I would probably choose Cleveland, they make top of the line wedges, hybrids and woods and while Ive only swung a 6 iron of the Irons I also like their irons and putters. Titleist and Nike would be other competitors but I dont like the woods or hybrids from either company a whole lot.

Nothing in golf pisses me off more then people who play golf as a fashion accessory.

Handicap is irrelevent, a low score for me is 85 a low score for someone else may be a 68 either way the point of golf is to score as low as you can. Not to make yourself look good doing it. If you strive to get better all the things you are talking about will follow. If you play well you wont need to bend the rules to make yourself feel better, you will hit it strait, youll keep pace because you wont spend half your round in the woods looking for balls and youll be able to play any course with any foursome becuase everyone appreciates someone who is quick and tidy. As for good manners Id hope most people have those naturally and dont need to set that as a goal. Golf etiquette is not some super secret code if your not normally an ******* you will probably not piss too many people off.

What? Thats like saying basketball is not about winning its about having a pretty jump shot and being able to do windmill dunks... Sorry but your just wrong To the OP. Unless you post video I dont know if anyone here will really be able to help you too much. It is not that rare to have a mostly arms swing, It is rare to play well with a mostly arms swing.

On the heels of Vision54...best practice session ever
LankyLefty replied to sonicblue's topic in Golf Talk
I have never been able to pick up a book like this and keep myself even close to awake. It sounds like a Hippie's Guide To Golf to me. Mental game is important but really what all of these books come down to remaining comfortable, calm, confident and consistent. Which is the best way to do just about anything. -
You might as well jus have a dice game then, golf is just not a sudden death sport. In basketball or baseball when one team is better then the other I can show in just a game. In golf a better player might be outplayed over the course of several rounds but over the course of several tournaments the better player usually comes out. Sudden death would just be a dice game.

Im a member of the "audience" and it costs me zilch, so is it worth zero dollars to watch decent golf later into the year than before? Is that even a question worth asking?

Attn: Good golfers. Where does it hurt??
LankyLefty replied to Lofty Lefty's topic in Fitness and Exercise
I general soreness is a sign that your muscles have been overworked. It is a sign from your body to slow down a bit until they recover. So if you hardly ever run and you go running one day you will be sore. But if you keep running your body adjusts and you no longer get that soreness. So in golf where you essentially repeat a similar action over and over again, soreness really should not be an issue. It is also a fairly natural motin unlike in baseball where the pitching motion is ver unnatural and arms soreness is a fact of life, in golf soreness in the muscles or joints after ever round over a prolonged period should not really be an issue. -
I dont see how it is a waste of 10 mil at all. It is a silly system, it fails at making it feel like golf has a playoff and a champion, but any way you measure it you simply cannot call it a waste. Quote: Definition of Waste to consume, spend, or employ uselessly or without adequate return; use to no avail or profit; squander: to waste money; to waste words. First of all the money is not just given away they would not be in the 5th(i think) year of this if they were taking a loss on it. More then the money put into it is earned back through Tickets, Televisions, advertisements. For those who enjoy it and those who attend it, and those golf courses who host it. The towns and local vendors and hotels that get filled up, this is not a waste. Call it silly, call it stupid, call it bad golf, but calling it a waste of 10 million dollars is not accurate. Any way you look at it the money put into it is more then gotten back, making it not a waste in any waste.

I used to play a very easy course every friday. On my normal course, 7000 yards from the tips but usually more like 6800, I almost never broke 90 in good conditions and if it was wet... forget it. On the easy friday course I played it about 10 shots better in dry conditions and 15 or 20 shots better in wet conditions. Now I hardly ever get to play because of cost and Job and Im not sure I could break 100 today without taking some time to get back into practice. I think playing an easy course every once in a while is a good thing. Also it isn't all about distance, if my easy course had been 6800 yards it still would have been easy.

I think its your pool that you and your fam are gonna enjoy so you should get whatever suits you best. If you want 10 feet get 10 feet. If you get 8.5 and come to find its not enough... well you cant exactly add it on later. In my limited experience the minimum depth to install a diving board is somewhere between 9 and 15 feet. Honestly I think it comes down to how you treat it you can dive in 4 feet of water if your careful.

That does not look like your standard fake peddler, but you never know. The pictured clubs appear to be authentic however you may not get the pictured clubs. Contacting mizuno only goes so far, serial numbers can be duplicated, and not all clubs will have serial numbers on file, only those sold at retail would.

How to properly take care of forged irons
LankyLefty replied to jswang519's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
This is an extremely ignorant post... Modern forged irons are made out of steel with a hardness a little over 400, brass has a hardness of a litle over 100 so a brass brush will never scratch steel thus it is physically incapable of wearing down your grooves or anything like that. As for "contaminating" the metal, im not even sure what that means but if your thinking that the metals will mix and somehow become softer... you are again wrong as this is also not possible at any temperature you can create in your living room. As for headcovers he clearly stated in the first post they would be used for transport. It is true they can trap moisture but stainless steel is really very rust resistant and as long as the clubs are not stored with headcovers on between rounds they are unlikely to form rust. -
How to properly take care of forged irons
LankyLefty replied to jswang519's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
In my opinion clubs are meant to be used, but that said, washing after every round and getting a bag that separates each club can go a long way. Best way to clean an iron is with a brass brush and water. Soak just the heads in water for 3-5 min give em a once over with a brass brush and dry with a terrycloth towel. If they are really crusty you can add some soap but not really necessary. If you'd like to buff out scratches here and there some 400 grit sandpaper can do the trick. Clorox wipes don't do anything for a golf club, they don't need to be disinfected just washed. -
Significant issue I feel is effecting PGA tour TV viewership ratings
LankyLefty replied to uttexas's topic in Tour Talk
Although I don't currently have TV service... when I did I avoided DVRing whenever possible. Its just not the same. I don't have the self control to not track a sporting event I care about live on my phone no matter where I am. -
In the US everyone drives and many courses make you take a cart if your more then a 1 or 2. Now that im in europe I have not taken a cart yet. They are super expensive. Also a lot of courses in the states were simply not made with a walking golfer in mind. They are a real pain to walk.

Some of my best friends are total opposites from me in terms of politics... it really doesn't matter. Twitter is a way of expressing yourself and golfers should be as free to do that as anyone else.

Tell me these dont look too much alike for you not to buy a better driving German car.... Or just save your self 25 grand and get the taurus instead.

Proper swing for more backspin...Help please!
LankyLefty replied to RyderJ's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
It amazed me how much much time and effort pros and their caddies put in to "scouting" a course. They in a week or so do what it took me months to do at my local course, then I moved and now Im back to square one. But yeah I think that many people who learn this are not accurate enough to effectively use it anyway. Be real how many of you on a regular basis can say "ok im gonna fly this 10 feet past the hole and roll it back" then actually hit that 10 foot spot? Im guessing not to many. -
I dont like the FedEx cup, I think its a silly arrangement and I dont think golf needs "playoff" if you can even call this a playoff. That said I dont dislike it either, If i want to watch golf at this time in the year the FedEx cup events are the best around. I agree the Idea is stupid, but the result is that high quality golf is played later in the year then it ever has been before and that is a good thing. Personally at this point most of my sports watching is going to be concentrated on Baseball or Football at this point but if I were to want to watch golf it would certainly be the FedEx cup.

I must say I dont get why people like Jags to me they look like a fancy version of an old Ford Taurus and dont drive nearly as well as comparable BMWs and Mercedes models. Where do people get off on them, they are like a slightly worse more expensive cross between a mercedes and a BMW that looks like a ford.

I love the way Land Rovers look and ride but my god do they break a lot and when they do they are just a giant money pit.

I dont really see anywhere for Vick to go but down. He had an amazing year but in his last few games he showed the reason that the Atl was so frustrated with him. He has a way for getting injured, and he is inconsistant with accuracy. I doubt he will play 16 games this year I also highly doubt he will have a QB rating over 85. Is he a winning QB? Yes. Is he a better passer then he was in atl? Yes. But I just dont see a guy who is getting older, has always had a propensity for nagging injuries and is wildly inconsistant with his horizontal and lateral accuracy from week to week, as somone worth franchise QB money. I think they should have let him go 1 year on the franchise tag, then once he regressed some and got soem more injuries they would have been able to justify a lower price point.

Proper swing for more backspin...Help please!
LankyLefty replied to RyderJ's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Backspin In my understanding really only has to do with loft of the club and hitting down on the ball. Placing the ball back in stance can help out with both of these but Im not sure these is 1 accepted "back spin swing". -
Breaking 100 consistently
LankyLefty replied to 3 Off The Tee's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
If you have not, I highly recommend investing in one or two lessons. Yes they are expensive and yes they require practice to put what youve learned to good use on the course but if you have never taken one I think youd be pleasantly suprised at how drastically 1 lesson can help someone with a high hcp.
