My Nike 20XI S Review - I don't like them
Rip24 replied to grim golfer's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I love the 20xi, I have only played the S version and I haven't gotten the new 2013 model yet. But I was very impressed with the ball. At first I was scared of the spin after have a few approaches suck back off the green. I think it was more due to the soft conditions and slope of the green. Once I had a feel for its spin characteristics it was awesome knowing I'd have that much control especially with the consistent yardages it flew. I didn't find it to be any longer just consistent. I didn't notice the clicky feel until reading these posts.. Thanks guys... Well the 2013 model is supposed to have better feel. So ill keep my fingers crossed. -
Swing harder damn you! Just kidding... Anyways I find you to have a pretty impressive swing for someone to have just started playing a year ago. Get in a gym and get a little stronger. I really don't like the idea of telling you to over swing and I can tell in you last videos that's what you are trying to do. As a new golfer you should be building proper mechanics and TEMPO! Tempo is so important I had to put it in caps. Distance will come when your body is synced up in the right way. So I don't believe the chicken wing this and the shaft flex that. Concentrate on good mechanics and solid strike. Also, you should post a vid face on so we can see what your hips and hands are doing through impact. There might be things going on we can't see from down the line

How does tape on the clubface affect a driver demo?
Rip24 replied to cwcaesar's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
This is misleading, both are factors. The initial launch angle of the ball always falls between the dynamic loft and attack angle at impact. TrackMan data has shown for drivers, that dynamic loft normally accounts for about 85% of the launch angle, while attack angle accounts for the remaining 15%. -

glad the G hybrids have a new look. the previous versions have been hideous with all that offset...they looked like clubs you would buy at walmart. the new G25's look good -
Making a transition to blades, recommended or not?
Rip24 replied to Pasatiempo's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I agree with Tristan, its all about the sexiness aspect with blades. Whenever I hear anyone invoking Muira's I think poser... I feel that if you have to ask yourself and everyone one else for that matter if switching to blades is a good idea....the answer is probably no. Blades are like dating the really hot girl thats also kinda crazy...yeah theyll make your friends jealous but they are hard to live with and will embarrass you publicly from time to time -
Angle of attack it 5 up? Haha. How high do they have to tee it up??

I love Mizuno irons as well. If the 64's are too much club but you really like the clean look of the clubs you should def check out the 59's. I game the 59's and they are excellent clubs and have virtually identical foot print looking down at address as the 63/64's very forgiving for a bladey MP style club with that sweet mizuno feel as well. I have demo'd the the 64's. After about 15 shots with the 6 iron and I can say they are a little lower flight than my 59's but ony by like a couple feet on peak height so no big deal, but this was probably because they seemed to spin a little less based on the stats. Mishits didnt seem too terrible but then I hit my irons pretty well. If you arent too confident with your irons these will more than likely hurt your game. You really need to be striking it well to get everything out of the long irons...if not you may find your 3,4 & 5 irons all going the same distance

125 mph Swing Speed Driver Help!
Rip24 replied to HackerUpNorth's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Why is every talking about his driver configuration like that's the problem? The golf industry would love everyone to believe you can get fit and shave 10 strokes off over night. Yeah having the right set up helps but that's more fine tuning... And fitting don't mean anything unless you have a repeatable swing and hit it out the middle more often than not. If your 25+ hc it ain't the damn clubs... You don't need a fitter you need a teacher -
GolfTec Golf Lessons - Feedback, Discussion
Rip24 replied to chauvotsm's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I agree. when I started it was a lesson a week, but that was for basics and fundamentals, ie: don't sway on your back swing, address set up..things that were fairly easy habits to break. When major changes started happening.. rerouting club path, separating hips and shoulders, hand position through impact. I still showed up every week to monitor progress, but we didn't move on to a new "lesson" until I had down the last thing we were working on and some of those major changes took a month of hard practice to see improvement. It was both extremely frustrating and greatly rewarding experience. -
Putting Stroke - Arc or Straight?
Rip24 replied to RussianCarl's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I feel like I'm straight but its probably a very slight arc. I don't really know because my focus is on the back of the ball. For me it's all about quiet eyes, I find my line and then all I look at is the back of the ball -
This statement is absolutley inaccurate. Some of them do sure. Luke Donald is known for playing stock specs in his irons. But the stuff they make for their staff players is not the production line stuff we buy at golfsmith. They're even assigned serial numbers denoting tour issue... I had a teacher with a deal in Titleist... His irons were AP2's but his 3 an 4 iron were AP1's. only his AP1's were forged and had no offset....think you'll find those in stores? Tighter tolerances in the woods are pushed to the absolute limit of COR, custom face angles, weighting grinds... It goes on and on

Putting Stroke - Arc or Straight?
Rip24 replied to RussianCarl's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
[quote name="Weightshift" url="/t/8488/putting-stroke-arc-or-straight#post_86569"] My golf swing starts with the feet, doesn't yours? I realize this thread is 5 years old but...... You start your swing with your feet??? What does that even mean? I'm totally confused. You must have some serious sway in your back swing. -
GolfTec Golf Lessons - Feedback, Discussion
Rip24 replied to chauvotsm's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
For me it was definitley worth it. But I think it greatly depends on your coach. I thought golftec was amazing when I started but very soon realized I was quite lucky to have been paired up with the guy that was assigned to me. This guy was a legit instructor that had played for D1 school, played mini tours, trained with many well known top teachers and studied all the literature out there. I felt like I had a tour pro quality instruction, the insight he brought was just on another level. Other coaches could very well be some ave joe that likes golf and got trained to give instruction and use their software....I dont want to be cynical i think it can help alot of people especially those with less advanced skills. Now that I have gone through over 2 years with this guy and have absorbed so much instruction and have a fairly solid swing I would be very picky with who I would trust with my swing. -
I play them because of looks and feel and playability. but mostly because of looks, i cant stand to see a big chunky head with a ton of offset and also i dont want to be seen with a bag full of shovels. But I dont belive its an exageration that blades for the average golfer/weekend hacker are way too dificult to play. for those guys with slow swing speeds and multilpe swing faults id feel bad if they had to try to play only blades

@ IACAS, I disagree with your opinion. Most professionals go there entire career without even sniffing a win. He has two wins this year. And is on a short list of people contending for player of the year. So its not a great year if he doesnt win a major? Does that mean at best their are only four players that can have great years in a given season?? Does this mean Luke Donald didnt have a great year in 2011? (becoming #1, top money lists on both tours) Yeah I think you may want to rethink that statement there buddy...

Ping i20 driver question/comparison
Rip24 replied to CRobby's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
If you launch the ball WAY too high as you say, then you should take that $400 bucks yould drop on the I20 and get some lessons. You probably come into the ball too steep and spin it too much. The right loft and and shaft profile helps but more often than not, a new club isnt the answer. -
Dickies? does anyone actually do this? I thought i was just a joke to make fun of poor tee shots... If I was golfing and someone actually attempted to play out a hole with their junk out I would run them over with the cart.

No tour pro would "need a couple weeks to prepare" so they could learn the old equipment. This is ridiculous....they would need about a half a bucket of balls to adjust and then they would be on. Those guys are machines...the difference between scratch and +5 or better is miles apart. The tour pro would deliver an epic beat down. To quote the book Paper Tiger, about that old PGA slogan These guys are good...how good? You've got no f'n clue...

I also have demoed the VR s and was very impressed with driver as well as the fairway woods and hybrids. Although I definitley agree with shaft playing a bit weak. I swing around 110 on a the launch monitor and the stiff feels pretty whippy. I will definitley get fit for a custom shaft when I buy. I also disagree about the stock shaft being the same as the off the rack shaft. Some times its the same like the project x in titleists, but when it says on the shaft *exclusivley for nike or *exclusivley for taylormade....it aint the same thing

Mizuno fitting, cavity backs and the future
Rip24 replied to MiniBlueDragon's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Dude you really need to get some more spin on your ball. Thats six iron data right? With spin maxing out at 4k you ball is not getting enough carry and is costing you distance. You only get between 20-24 yards of height on the ball when it should be around 30. Your launch angle is fine but get 5-6k of back spin and youll see your distance improve alot -
James, why do you bother posting if you dont want to get in on the discussion. Congratulations, you screwed up the thread and now we are talking about chewbaca the wookie. You really think somebody is trolling these message boards for your thoughts on the swing to relay it over to Luke Donald? What an ego....
