  1. Hey all. I'm thinking about joining a private course in or around Seattle, but don't know much about any of them. I live in the green lake area, but would not be opposed to somewhere outside of Seattle city limits. I'm looking for somewhere not over the top expensive, and I don't care about any country club amenities like a pool, tennis, etc. All I really care about is that it's a quality course that I won't mind playing a lot of! Suggestions?
  2. I'm 26. Used to carry about 50% of the time and power cart the rest. I picked up a used Sun Mountain push cart off of Criagslist for 80 bucks. Having the umbrella holder (especially awesome for the winter golfing here in Seattle), drink holder, cooler (for the summer), and all the compartments makes my life so much easier. Plus I walk almost all of my rounds now, saving me money on cart fees and getting some extra exercise.
  3. Thanks for the videos in this thread, this is one of the things I feel I have to work on the most.
  4. I just moved to Seattle from San Diego this past summer, but I actually don't mind the winter golf. I'll play if it's 45 and not too high of a chance of rain or down to 40 if it's sunny. I always walk, so I find once I get on the course and get warmed up I'm usually perfectly comfortable in a winter hat, t-shirt, hoodie, and jeans. Oh and my Foot Joy WinterSof gloves. Those things are life savers! I'll have to try the ball temperature trick out, I've been getting killed on my distances ever since it got cold out. We went out to play a couple weeks ago when it was under 40 and sunny here, but it had been colder recently so the ground was frozen. It was ridiculous. Perfect shots to the green bouncing off like it was the cart path. Saw a guy trying to use the head of his driver to hammer a tee into the ground on the first tee box. Frost everywhere. It was a mess.
  5. I just picked up the S&T; book a few days ago. Took it to the range shortly after that and hit off some practice mats to get a feel for the swing and video myself to try and see if I was doing it right. I only had my cellphone for a video camera, but I was able to easily identify some parts of my swing that needed work. The particularly obvious ones were me overswinging the club, the clubhead too far back to the inside, throwing away the wedge too soon, and not extending my arms. Today I decided to go play an executive course not far from my house. The round started off with lots of erratic shots and bad holes, but once I hit the 13th hole or so my game took a turn for the awesome. I was able to focus on keeping my weight left, pushing my hands toward the target at address by trying to pinch my elbows together, and fully extending my arms at impact. I was able to hit 5 of those last 6 greens in regulation, with all of the shots either straight or with a little draw on them. Needless to say I am totally sold on S&T; and definitely plan to keep working on it!
  6. It's talk like this that makes me glad I'm moving to San Diego soon!
  7. I just started last season, so I still suck. However, I went down from 135 to about 110, 115 by the end of last season. I got a membership to the municipal courses here in Rochester which all kinda suck, but at least it was cheap and I can go play a couple times a week to work on my game. That $450 will help my game waaaaaaaay more than any new equipment could.
  8. I tried this out today at the range and for some of my iron shots on 9 holes today. It does look ridiculous, but it also has improved my contact a little. I'm going to keep trying it out and see what happens.
  9. Started in May this year
  10. My roommate has TW '07 for the Wii. I was playing it on Xbox before he got it, and I can't do it. There are a lot of input errors with the wiimote in this game. It's happened to me repeatedly where I would set up for a swing, start pulling back, and the game decides that my backswing is done and starts the downswing. If you don't catch it in time by releasing the B button, it will hit your shot at 60% power or so which is intensely frustrating. In addition to that, it can be hard to hit the ball straight and you have to watch out for slices and hooks. Personally coming from the Xbox version where there are no unintentional input errors, I can't play the Wii version of the game and only play the Xbox version. The only thing the Wii version does a good job of is mimicing some of the frustration of golf.
