I'll be ordering one. I've been working on my lag and look forward to seeing how this helps.

We had about eight inches here on Saturday night and then another couple on top of that on Tuesday. I just moved here from the southeast so this will be my first winter dealing with golf shutting down. Luckily there is a heated and covered driving range just up the road from my house, so hopefully I can still get a swing in every now and then. My basement is set up with a mirror so I can at least work on some light swings and positions during the off season. SRJ

I guess it's kind of like the Brad Paisley song "So Much Cooler Online".

I used to do the same thing. A great drill to help get the feeling of keeping the weight from moving to the outside of your foot is to push a golf ball into the ground to where about half of it is sticking up above the surface. Place your right foot so that the ball is on the outside part around the arch. Your foot should be tilted inward slightly and when you do your backswing you will really feel what it's like to keep that weight on the inside. It will feel restrictive at first, but trust it. It's not a drill you need to hit a ball while doing. Just make practice swings to get the feel and then hit balls without stepping on the ball in the ground. If you do decide to hit balls I recommend using a tee. SRJ

Wow, if she's doing this on your 2nd anniversary you should be very happy! I do understand your side of the frustration. If I were going to play a great course like that I would want my own clubs and hope to shoot well. Look on the bright side, you have many more anniversary trips to come, and now she knows to tell you to bring your clubs with you before you go. My wife tried to do an awesome thing once by buying me some new golf clubs. Unfortunately she got them off Ebay and had no idea what she was buying. Horrible clubs, but it was the thought that counted. Now she knows not to buy me equipment but to ask me what I need. Oh, and she got a new set of clubs out of the deal too SRJ

Clubhead traveling toward target after impact
srjorion replied to Kalipari's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
My gut feeling after reading the OP's post was that his instructor was trying to get him to do that by making him "feel" as if the clubhead was moving towards the target. I've learned that what something feels like is most likely different that what is actually happening when it comes to golf. SRJ -
Holy crap! That's a lot of water! You can do it though. Best of luck!

I partially agree here. Yes, you do have to call out those who aren't behaving, especially around kids. Unfortunately sometimes doing so brings out even worse behavior from those being idiots. I've seen it happen and some poor dude got assaulted in front of his kids as a result. I believe the OP did the right thing in not getting too confrontational and then letting security deal with the losers. SRJ

I'm sorry, but people who cuss around younger kids have issues. I'll drop an occasional cuss word in public, but never around kids. Sure, they may have heard it before, but there's no need for me to be the one to give them a reminder. Good move letting proper authorities handle it. SRJ

I just did a quick search on the net for pics of the new divider system and can't seem to find any, even on the Ogio site. Any chance you could upload a few pics of your new bag? I'd love to see the changes. I bought a 2010 Grom about a month ago and love it. I've only been able to walk 9 so far, but the extra weight wasn't an issue. SRJ

Video Analysis has changed my game forever
srjorion replied to LeviTee's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I was excited. I saw so many areas where I could improve that I actually looked forward to making the changes knowing if I did I would shave at least a few strokes off my game. SRJ -
I was fortunate enough to win one of the Leupolds in the contest held on this site a while back. I always wanted to get one, but never bought one due to the cost. Now that I have one and have seen how much they help me, if it was stolen today I'd buy another. As far as buying a new one, there are always people out there who buy new things and then sell them after very little use for great deals. All it takes is a little research on your part. Range finders are quite expensive, so I say find a good used one unless you have plenty of money to spare. SRJ

Video Analysis has changed my game forever
srjorion replied to LeviTee's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
One thing I quickly learned after seeing my swing and all of the changes I needed to make was that I couldn't fix it all at once. At first I would work on two or three things each range session, but my progress was very slow. I have since then gone to working on one thing over a few range sessions and will then hit the video to see if I'm making progress. I have broken out the camera on some of the drills to see if I'm accomplishing what I am aiming for. While you can quickly identify flaws with video, I'm learning that doesn't mean you will fix them faster. You still need to take time to make the change stick before moving on to something else. -
I plan for Coriolis on my putts, only because they usually DO have enough time to be affected due to the extreme distances I put myself from the cup

It was very windy today but other than that it was pretty good. I'll definitely take as many warm days to play and practice before it gets cold. I didn't go to the game, but I actually work right next to the University of Utah at Ft. Douglas. Definitely an awesome looking stadium. Thanks again for the tips and videos. I just realized this evening that in the very first video you posted the guy had a ten finger grip. Now that drill makes more sense and I'll give it a shot the right way. I've already watched that Hogan video about twenty times, that one is awesome. Great eye on the lifting. I didn't catch that. Something else I'm trying to do is shorten my swing just a touch. I definitely feel like it is shorter than it is and am surprised every time I see it on video to find I'm going back as far as I am with a 6 iron. SRJ

Update after a few trips to the range. I'm still working on getting more knee flex into my setup. I'm also trying to keep that lag and having my hands forward at impact vs. throwing it away early in the swing. That one is kicking my butt at the moment if anyone has any suggestions. One other thing I noticed and worked on some today was I wasn't getting my left shoulder down enough in the back swing. I worked on that today and that alone gave me some much better shots. If I can get my hands forward at address while working my shoulders properly I believe my ball striking will improve quite a bit. I'm going to post some still shots later with a comparison of last week vs. this week. As always, thanks in advance for any advice. SRJ

Gulf Shores - Lost Key/Cotton Creek
srjorion replied to Amstarvid's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I've played Lost Key twice, but one was before Hurricane Ivan and the course is much different now. The joke used to be the course name was "Lost Ball" due to the fact that if you were off the fairway by a few yards you could forget about finding your ball in the thick brush. I played it earlier this year and liked it. There are a few blind shots over marsh but if you play smart you should be able to keep your ball in play. I used to live right next to and play at Perdido Bay Golf Club which is about a mile north of Lost Key. Worth a round if you are going to be in the area. I haven't played Cotton Creek. Have fun in my old stomping grounds. SRJ -
I now have this vision of my Gunny from my college ROTC days telling me that while I golf.

I heard so many things about What-A-Burger before I ever had one. I pulled into Corpus Christi, TX, after a long drive and was starving. Grabbed a What-A-Burger and it was the worst burger I had ever had. Considering I was starving that's saying a lot! I did eventually try another What-A-Burger and it was much better. I've had a few more since then. They aren't my favorite, but I wouldn't turn one down.

Video Analysis has changed my game forever
srjorion replied to LeviTee's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I have just recently filmed my swing for the first time. It's been a few years since I took lessons and I lost some of the feel I had back then. It was definitely eye opening. I bought a Kodak Playsport and love it. Used it to take this video: My Swing (srjorion) It's only 60 fps, but so far that's all I need. I'll upgrade down the road if I find I need better detail. -
Thanks uttexas. I'll give that a shot the next time I hit the range. I went out yesterday and worked on my setup, knee flex, and getting the hands coming down more vs. throwing the club at the ball. It's definitely going to take some time to get those new feelings going, but I did se a little improvement on a few shots. If it stays warm enough over the next couple of weeks and I can make it out to the range enough I'll post some new video to see any improvements. SRJ

Or just say you "pure" every shot you hit.

Awesome! Congratulations. I agree with your wife and you only live once. SRJ

Thanks for the input. Great stuff so far! I just moved here about four months ago from New Orleans. I really love it here so far. I'll miss playing through the winter, but I can live with that. I was surprised how straight I was keeping my legs. I "feel" like they are bent more, but that's obviously not the case. Definitely something I'll be working on over the next few range sessions. I noticed the closed clubface too, but didn't think about getting the hands deeper. Thanks, I'll work on that. Any suggestions or drills out there for fixing the closed clubface? That's been something I have always fought. When I was taking lessons a few years ago that's the main thing we worked on. I've lost the feel on that one and need to get it back. I wish I could say it was something I was doing on purpose! Another area where I "feel" like I'm doing something but I'm not. I also realized after this how tense I was. I'm not sure if it was the cold or what, but I definitely need to relax the wrists. Thanks again. I'm open to any other items people see.
