I think Rors was over hyped by the media, and then golf fans. His short career is one of inconsistency drizzled with brilliance. I've read his driving accuracy is less than desirable. He has bouts of putting heaven along with putting hell. Maybe it's too many changes, changing of girlfriends, agents, friends, equipment... It's possible that when he "settles" down and makes golf his priority, the brilliance meter will rise. But it is also possible that golf will not be his all consuming priority... 'drizzled with brilliance' = streaky player, definitely, when he's on he is unbeatable, when he's off he is off. 'Maybe to many changes', think so. Hindsight's a great thing, but wonder if Rory would like to wind back time and still be playing Titleist and be with his first management company. And the romantic in me thinks perhaps he misses his childhood girlfriend. Even if subconsciously!

"Why on earth do TV commentators talk of 'fairway metals'?"
Vermeer replied to HighlandLaird's topic in Tour Talk
So we can add Graphite metal woods or Steel ( or perhaps iron ) metal woods. -
"Why on earth do TV commentators talk of 'fairway metals'?"
Vermeer replied to HighlandLaird's topic in Tour Talk
Well, the question was why do we call them Fairway Metals not if it is the term used is correct. A good few years ago in Europe when the 'metals were fast replacing the more traditional woods Sky on one of it's sports channels ran a competition to give the new kid on the block a name. Fairway metal came out the runaway winner, enthusiastically backed by Euen Murray a senior Sky Sports commentator ! Perhaps we are to blame this side of the pond. Personally I still play a 3 or 5 wood. -
This article by John Feinstein sums it up. http://www.golfchannel.com/news/john-feinstein/no-need-for-woods-to-withdraw/ http://www.golfchannel.com/news/john-feinstein/no-need-for-woods-to-withdraw

Good post. Yes, wrong to walk off, but Rory has always been upfront with the media saying what he really feels. Hope he comes thro' this bad patch.

Shortening the driver shaft...
Vermeer replied to Incognito's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Well, this thread has been revived so here's my thoughts. Don't know if any other manufactures are shortening shafts, but Pings i20 driver shaft is at least 1/2" shorter than standard. Best driver I've had, like to think I am a touch longer with it but certainly am a little more accurate. -
So this thread has been on view for over 24 hours but has only attracted about a dozen views. Over here on the other side of the pond the Ladies European tour ( LET ) seems to be slipping of the Radar regarding TV coverage. Is this beginning to happen your side? Posting this to try a generate some life into this thread. Another question : what percentage of posters on Sandtrap are female?

Many posters on this thread seem to debate who should be inducted into the Hall of Fame thinking the only parameter should be the inductees golf record. Obviously this is the main parameter, but please understand the definition of the word 'Fame' http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/fame This conveniently lets in people like Peter Alliss et al.

So Bradley Wiggins is not a noted contributor to charity? This is just one of a few things he has started or contributed in this last year. http://www.bradleywigginsfoundation.org/site/index.php

Well, self centred you possibly have to be to win seven European titles. Arrogant?, never thought that as he has plenty of time for other golfers. So he bangs on how he captained the Ryder Cup, why he was a very good Captain (what I done etc). He was! Regarding Tiger, all he is saying is compared to his pomp he is pretty well an ordinary golfer. He has never suggested he is a handicap golfer, thats just your spin .
-
Well, we hammered you in the Ryder Cup ( alright by a couple of iffy putts), and perhaps we would have beat you in the War of Independence if it had not been played away ( and we had included Europe!) But without a doubt our Diners in England are a very distant second to yours in the States and Little Chef a very distant third. Pub grub over here are the way to go. Wiseguy in an earlier post remarked on the body odours of us Brits in the 70's and 80's. You are mistaken, we were 'Splashing it all over' with the Deodorant Brut as advertised by Henry Cooper. Last sentence put in strictly for the Brits !

GaijinGolfer suffers from Myopia don't you know.
-
Well said. However, whatever Rory does he will be inbetween a rock and a hard place.

Well I'm a Brit and not one who will try to humour him. He's an attention seeker. Bet Psychiatrists would queue up to get him on the proverbial couch

Many of you are castigating Davis Love 111, lets hope his reputation survives as he is one of your classier players. Sam Snead is one of your legends, but a bit of a pit bull as Ryder Cup Captain, and apparently not respected by his team ( Nicklaus included). heres a bit written after you retained the Cup in 1969. Snead received a lot of bad press at the time for his management of the team. The Sports Illustrated account of the 1969 Ryder Cup published immediately afterward noted that Snead "... can be a crude, sullen, cantankerous old buzzard, and he is about as capable of leadership as Ebenezer Scrooge. Snead's relationship with the majority of U.S. tournament players has long been one of mutual animosity." Snead benched Nicklaus in two of the six sessions. A PGA of America official on site told Sports Illustrated that "you could say that team morale is just about zero." While I respect Snead's golfing record, of the two I respect DL 111 as a person. And before you win at all costs merchants have your say, if Justin Rose's improbable putt had not found the 17th hole you would no doubt be giving no thought of Davis Love's captaincy.
-
The Europeans were celebrating because they had retained the cup. But winning the cup is better than retaining it surely? I can understand you not agreeing with me and you have every right to. What I can't understand why you called me ignorant, but pehaps anyone who doesn't agree with your train of thought you think are ignorant. If you think I'm ignorant because I don't agree with your thoughts on this subject, ergo you are ignorant of mine.
-
Tell Tom Kite that ! Surely you can understand the difference between keeping the Cup and winning it ? Tiger can't but Kite can ! Retaining it is effectively a draw.
-
Olazabel had approached Molinari before his shot into the green, telling him it is important that the hole is played out to try and win the cup outright. Incumbent on Olazabel to go onto the green and say good-good? Doesn't have that in him ? What right does he have saying good-good, he would have to assume Woods and Love would agree to it. More to the point, why did Woods give Molinari's putt. If he had missed Team USA would not have lost the Ryder Cup, Europe would have only retained it just as they did at the Belfry a few years ago - which at the time an obviously disappointed Tom Kite reminded them of !

Only just.

The course has lost nearly a 1000 trees ( 600 in the last two years). Surely that can't be a good thing. ( Don't know if Love had anything to do with the situation) What difference does it make? Well, if you want to watch the Ryder Cup being played on a resort type course, nothing.
-
Before saying what I am going to say, please understand that I believe the USA have the stronger team and in Davis Love 3 you have a gentleman Captain supporting all that is good in golf. The course has been set up to favour the home team ( understand that ) but to me apart from the length it is resembling a resort course, spray the ball about and you have little chance of finding a difficult lie. In my opinion the game (Ryder Cup) is being dumbed down. This is not sour grapes, just a sad note.

Didn't he have some sort of contract with a watch company that required him to be in France? Quote: Originally Posted by makaveli Do you have other explanations of why Bubba was playing the French Open?
