Was your title hacked?

I tried watching it a few times, perhaps I was expecting more golf, so I was really disappointed. Didn't see the first host, so maybe it was better back then. Thirsty Traveler is a pretty solid show.

Counterfeit Golf Clubs on EBay
withdrew replied to shinujk1's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
100% rating means NOTHING. If they sell bogus clubs to people that don't know any better, of course they are going to get positive feedback. Also look CLOSELY @ the feedback. I could buy 200-300 cheap items, promptly pay the seller and get 200-300 positive feedbacks, but how many items have I SOLD? How many customers have I SATISFIED? Click on the links- look at past auctions and look at the winning bidders, and then see the winning bidder's history, to double-check if that guy is an educated shopper... eBay can be equally horrible and awesome, so you gotta watch out! -
I constantly curse at myself and call myself hideous and disgusting names throughout every round. I hate me. Does this count?

Totally agreed. Artists, actors, musicians and the like have cranked out the most amazing and creative stuff while under the influence of drugs. Not that I condone drug use (because I don't) but the world would be a very different (and probably boring) place without them, especially in the hands of those very talented folks!

Rory is such a baby, Congrats TW

A 5 hour round at one of the public courses in my area (Dyker Beach GC, Brooklyn) would be considered SPEED GOLF. Still sucks though since you're used to quicker rounds.

i want to know what that feels like so badly...

60° Wedge, LOVE IT OR HATE IT?
withdrew replied to withdrew's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have to qualify my "FREE" ProV1 statement. Since this was my thread originally I can go slightly OT for one post. A co-worker of mine, she lives in New Jersey right on a golf course (Colonia Golf Club). Her house is on a cul de sac right off the second hole. From what club members have said, her house is an "aiming point" or landmark for that particular hole, so these golf balls go flying into her backyard, front yard, lawn, deck, garage, pool, you name it. Needless to say when I found this out, I had to ask..."Do you guys PLAY golf?" The incredible answer- neither her or her husband play golf. Quickly followed up with, "What do you do with all those golf balls?" The next incredible answer- "We save them in compound buckets in our garage." So to make a long story short, (if that's possible at this point) I asked her to bring them into work, and she did just that. Out of 100-120 balls about 80 were Titleist ProV1 or ProV1x. I take all the golf balls and put them in a strainer in my sink, give them a bath, and sort them out. The crappy brand and severely scuffed balls become practice balls, the decent brand balls go in the bag for when someone has to "borrow" and the good balls get cleaned up and alignment-marked for play. So every month she brings in almost 80-100 balls, and the majority are Titleist ProV1 or ProV1x. For a golfer of my skill level (who still loses balls at least once or twice a round) it's the perfect way to get a ball that I otherwise would be wasting money on. A funny side story, on SEVERAL occasions I have found 2-3 balls with the same initials and ball marks, indicating the same guy going OB off that tee. And since you're gonna ask anyway, Colonia is amazing with reimbursing them for repairs to their car, deck, windows etc. P.S. I still hate my 60° -
Suggestion: KILL YOUR BROTHER

I think so much of putting is in the mind, so it helps to pull out a putter that you are confident in and that you have pride in. Whether its a cameron or bettinardi or odyssey or your grandfather's bullseye or whatever, half of the battle is THINKING YOU ARE GONNA SINK THAT PUTT

Just re-gripped my Pings, they feel like a million bucks. Even if you end up getting new clubs, the re-gripping should keep you interested until you get the new sticks and will help with the resale (maybe not in $, but at least in terms of sellability)

60° Wedge, LOVE IT OR HATE IT?

Your favorite -- or least favorite -- golf clichés
withdrew replied to Q.Q.Quillume's topic in Golf Talk
This is a great thread. There are so many stupid sayings to choose from, I don't know where to begin! I hate that Sally one. Obviously when I hit a putt like a 10 year old girl, I deserve it, but come up with something a little more creative, will you? Never up, never in. Just played out beyond belief. My dad's been telling me this one ever since I learned to speak. That's trouble. (Usually after a 180° sliced laser beam directly into the woods.) No SH!T Sherlock. Thanks for pointing that out. I guess I just hate when people state the obvious. Ones I like: You're in jail. (Behind tree-line or other trouble requiring a miracle to get out of) Good ball. Not really a cliche, I guess I hear it so FEW times each round, it's nice to crush a shot and have the other guys say, "Good ball!" I know there's more, my friends know lots of them, but I'm still relatively new at this culture so I forgot a lot of the ones that I hear and like... -
P.S. mate- My grandfather was born in Glasgow, so I'm with you! LOL

I think you are way off base here. This has nothing to do with "our boys" or "your boys," USA vs. EU, etc. etc. If one of "our boys" acted like that, believe me, I'd be the first to call him a punk and root for the other guy. This guy could be from anywhere, any country, any state, the USA, it doesn't matter. The bottom line is, he chokes in the big spot and once again failed to get it done when it was HIS for the taking. Nobody is disputing his talent, his INSANE Ryder Cup performances, his ball striking, his skills. To be honest, the Ryder Cup means a lot more to Europeans (from what I've seen and read about TV ratings, etc.) than it does to Americans (probably because the EU usually wins, LOL) so I doubt that anyone from the states is harboring any ill-will or hard-feelings because of his Ryder Cup performance.

That's an excellent article. I was rooting against Sergio too. ALL THE WAY. And it has nothing to do with European vs. American, I was thrilled to see Harrington take it. Actually, it's great to see an Irishman take it on European soil, it must be an honor to win such a title in Scotland, the birthplace of golf! Sergio is a complete headcase. What an amazing turn of events, he brought it ALL upon himself. Did you hear that press conference? He mentioned that he's not only competing against the field, but as if he's facing GOD or some other force of nature or supreme being! Give me a break. I'd love to chalk it up to youth, but he lost that card about 5 years ago.

Paula Creamer is an ANGEL. Can you imagine playing a round with her? (PUN INTENDED!)

Good point about "cheating." Another issue, conforming vs. non-conforming equipment, etc. The major golf equipment companies push the limits so far with their gear, an extra degree here or there, titanium here or there, weight here or there, and hardly anyone would notice. Do we check EVERYONE's equipment? Could a player use a "loaded" or "juiced" ball off the tee and somehow switch balls in between stokes or holes? Another issue would be "fairness" to higher profile players. Cameras follow Tiger and Phil all over the course, whether they're at the top or bottom of the leaderboard. What about that middle-of-the-pack or bottom golfer, who has no following and nobody looking over HIS shoulder. Should we test Tiger just because he wins so often? We rely on the honor system a great deal in this game. Sure there are marshalls or whomever "policing" the course, but the fact remains, you keep your own score and you provide your own equipment. As previously mentioned, it's just YOU AND THE BALL, nobody shouting or screaming or doing their best to make sure you DON'T hit it. There are TONS of opportunities to cheat besides steroids, so if they are going to start testing they will have their work cut out for them. Good call on the HGH. In case anyone forgot, these guys are MILLIONAIRES. If the PGA is going to test for substance x, then they will use substance y. There is always something cutting edge or undetectable, and if you have the money, you can get your hands on it. I'm not sure how widespread this is now, but I'm sure it's coming. You guys are convincing me...

No matter what, it's a tough situation all around. Out of all the professional sports, I would tend to believe that Golf would be the one that would LEAST likely be overrun with steroid abuse. Becuase it's a game of presicion and finesse, I could definitely see NON-abusers would still be able to compete, however, over the last decade or two it has clearly transformed into a power-game, and there's no doubt that strength would contribute to that. Another reason I'd be LESS likely to think steroids are widespread (or even used at all) in golf is that fitness, hard-core weight training, cardio training, stamina etc. is a somewhat recent development in golf. Look at the field, you're not talking about the locker room of an MLB, NBA or NFL team, so by doing the bare minimum (working out here and there) you will immediately have an advantage. That's not to say in years to come this couldn't change, because it probably will, once EVERYONE starts to work out and build up muscle and stamina, then athletes will look for additional advantages and possibly steroids. Also keep in mind recovery time, which is why MANY atheletes take steroids. I twist MY ankle, I can barely walk for over two months. Some of these guys BREAK BONES and HAVE SURGERY and they are out ONE WEEK, playing PRO-LEVEL basketball/baseball/football THE VERY NEXT WEEK. While conditioning and overall health and fitness contribute, steroids also have a lot to do with that phenomenon. The worst part about this whole thing is the young people who may be influenced or tempted to use steroids to get an edge in whatever sport they play. I think the best thing about golf is that technique and pure skill SHOULD always win in the long run. Look at Corey Pavin. Perhaps in the future, PGA courses will be shortened, making power less of an advantage. Fairways and greens will be narrow and hard to hit, and accuracy and finesse will be rewarded...?

60° Wedge, LOVE IT OR HATE IT?
withdrew replied to withdrew's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Everyone is providing valuable insight here, excellent points all around. I definitely think the bounce might be an issue, and it was also mentioned that if I "picked up the 60° by mistake, thinking it was the SW, I would probably hit it properly..." I think that's an excellent point. I suppose with the 60° you have this vision (from watching the pros!) of what the lob should look like, so I am certain that I take a different swing because of 100 different ideas swirling in my head, the #1 idea being that "I'm gonna skull this shot!" I also agree that the 60° probably just exaggerates my swing flaws, and that better, lower handicap players most likely benefit more with a 60° than I do. I probably have no business using one... but I will continue to experiment!
