  1. Hit 125 today...mean of 122. Bump up due to (I think) cocking the wrists a little earlier in the takeaway. I normally let them set towards the top and create lag as I start the down swing. I could notice a couple MPH difference right away. Played in a two man captains choice on Saturday and hit it pretty well given some of the changes. Only really had a couple "bad" drives which weren't terrible. My miss now is a block draw which played fine. Still hard to tell about distances (colder weather) but a couple drives were in spots I'm normally in during the summer.
  2. Spieth's angles are amazing. Can't wait for the weekend.
  3. So I had some time at our indoor facility and Trackman. I put the Swingspeed radar down to compare it next to Trackman to see what the difference in numbers were. Had some interesting (and strange) results. First I hit some 7 irons to warm up. On trackman I averaged about 85 MPH but the Swingspeed was registering around 78/79...so it was consistently lower. When I hit driver I was averaging around 102ish on Trackman but the Swingspeed radar was consistently around 110 or even higher. I hit 105 on Trackman but topped out at 115 on Swingspeed. I'd say that Swingspeed was averaging a little under 10 MPH higher with the driver but it was 6 MPH lower with the 7 iron. Has anyone else seen results like this? I was left slightly confused. When I've done fittings in the past and been on Trackman I was normally in the 100ish range so my swingspeed is definitely up a little bit but not as much as I thought it would be.
  4. Hit balls today...got to 114 and 112 but the mean was around 109. Both are up 2+ MPH from last week. Probably going to hit some more tomorrow (high of 57) and not over-swing and see how it goes. Also might try and get on a trackman next week to compare numbers to another source.
  5. Our course has been open the entire time and gone through phases of PVC, foam, etc in the cups. I don't know of any cases here that have been spread on the course. The club does have tournaments but they have nearly all been tee-time based and not shotgun to prevent mass gatherings. Personally, I've played more golf last year than the previous two years combined (at least) and not been sick at all. I don't see why all courses can't follow basic safety for indoor spaces and gatherings and open the courses up for play. The way many play, golf is socially distanced anyway. 😉 And I agree with @DeadMan, especially in summer, I missed the water jugs more than anything else.
  6. 73 (+2) today in breezy and cool conditions. Had a few bad swings but overall pretty happy with how I played. Hit 14 greens...made a couple birdies but left a couple out there. Encouraged that the SuperSpeed work I've done has been positive. Can tell the swing faster but I don't feel out of control. Only a couple bad drives but neither cost me very much...
  7. 124, 120, 119, 118, 114 Another nice bump. After making sure I was getting to or slightly past parallel in the backswing in the last session, today I made sure my hands were getting higher. That made a big difference right away. Didn't make any swings with the driver but I might hit balls later today and see what the numbers translate to on the range. I'm hoping I'll get over 110 hitting balls.
  8. Hit 118 during testing after doing my protocol. Also swung my driver (without a ball) just to compare. My median was 112 today with the blue stick and topped my driver out at 112. I'd say the median driver was 110. When I hit balls the driver is 110 maxed out and 107 at the median. Mind you, I'm not trying to max out my swing when I'm hitting balls. So currently I'm around: Blue Stick Driver w/o ball Driver w/ ball Max 118 112 110 Med 112 110 107 When I first started I was around 102 hitting balls with the driver. I'm playing on Monday so I'll be curious to see how it goes. I've already played once since i've started and it feels pretty good. I don't feel like I'm over-swinging...just being more aggressive.
  9. So, @iacas, I did a few swings just to test out...going past parallel and got up to 118 and 117.
  10. Swinging as fast as I can but still keeping my form as close to "normal" as I can. I'm not letting my right elbow fly out or moving my feet excessively. At least I don't feel like I am. I've never taken the club back past parallel in my life so I'm going to start looking at making an even bigger shoulder turn. I think I'm leaving some on the table there.
  11. Seemed to plateau at 113/114 with the blue sticks. Last three sessions have been nearly identical.
  12. Hit about 15 drivers on the range today. Would say that 80% of them were at 107 or 108. Wasn't going at max...just what I think I would be swinging on the course. That's about 5 or 6 above where I started. Hope to get that up to 110 consistently.
  13. We are looking at Hilton Head right now. Very pricey but both the wife and I really like the area and seems to tick all the boxes we have. Still 10 years or so to go until we'd consider living there with any regularity but we've started scouting areas we'd be interested in long-term.
  14. Hit balls on the range today with the radar. Low was 104 and the high was 110. I think the device is a couple MPH hot so it might be lower but when I did my testing (Driver with no ball) I hit 102. Not a bad start.
  15. Thought about this a bit. Some are similar to @iacas: Stick with Swingspeed for the first few months of the year. Goal is to gain 5-10 MPH. Keep plus handicap for entire year Win Club Championship Keep my son playing throughout the year Last one isn't for me specifically but I know I'll play more if he's playing. He's starting to enjoy it and hope to keep him going.
  16. Purchased the set...looking forward to starting the training. Have a friend who has the radar and doesn't use it all that much. Said I can borrow it so I can track my progress.
  17. The spin rate was a lot lower than I expected. In the 1800-2000 range...launch angle was a little higher to offset the low spin. Can't remember exactly what the launch angles were but I did notice the spin rates.
  18. I went through the fitting process a couple days ago and below are my initial thoughts. Disclaimer is that I already have a TS2 driver with the Smoke shaft and a Callaway Epic Sub Zero with a Tour AD DI-6 shaft. I'm currently spinning the TS2 too much but strike it more consistently. The Sub Zero has better numbers but don't hit it quite as solid as I'd like. TSi2 - Same shape and feel as the TS2. A bit of an elongated back that makes it look like it sits up at a good attack angle to the ball. Sound is very similar to the TS2...not as pleasing as the TSi3. For whatever reason, it feels a little lighter in my hands than the 3 during my swing. TSi3 - Shape is better looking. Very similar to my Sub Zero. Sound is more solid, maybe less "hollow", compared to the 3. I think that most people will go for this version. A couple of my friends that went through fittings were both fit into the 3. As for shafts, I tried the new Smoke (60g) and the Tensei blue (55g). I didn't even get to the Tour ADs...will explain why. I tried both shafts in both drivers and hit probably 10+ balls on each after going back and forth multiple times to see where the numbers ended up. As much as I liked the head and sound of the TSi3, the TSi2 felt better for me and, again, more consistent of a strike. My two longest drives were with the TSi2 and Tensei blue. I think I only hit 1-2 sligthly off-center drives with that combination. The TSi3, I hit some good drives as well but was 3-5 yards short of the TSi2. I didn't try the Tour ADs since 1) the up-charge is $200 and 2) I have a buddy who can pull the connector off my other one and put the Titleist one on for me if i want to try it and 3) I'm not sure if it would have improved much since my smash factor was already well above 1.5. The fitter said that I could hit it if I wanted but he didn't think I'd get much more out of any other shaft. It's a bit steep of a price ($550) but I went with the TSi2 and Tensei Blue shaft. Should ship in a couple weeks supposedly and hope to have it in my hands in mid-November. Will post back here with some updates if the weather permits.
  19. Done. Hope this works out...really sucks for them.
  20. Still open in NC for now. I have league tonight and we just got the "shelter-in-place" order here. Non-essential businesses can stay open as long as they adhere to the social distancing rules which, I believe, most golf courses can achieve. I expect most to stay open for the duration.
  21. TS2 Hybrid and 3W. Replaced some (much) older clubs...
  22. Was a good year last year. Accomplished most of my goals but still work to be done! For this year: Work on fitness/flexibility. I have spent ZERO time on this and feel like it could be a big benefit for on (and off) the golf course. Increased GIR. Worked on the driver last year to great benefit. Need to turn that into more GIR/nGIR for better scores. Feel like the irons could be a lot sharper. Win Club Championship - would be back to back to back. 🙂 Play more CGA tournaments. Played first NC Mid-Am last year. Need to keep playing in these to push my comfort zone and competition experience.
  23. I don't mind noise as long as its constant. Even low conversations on the tee don't bother me. The two things that do are: Someone trying to hold a conversation with ME when I'm trying to hit a shot. I can't answer a question during my routine...or it's really hard. I have to stop and resume when I'm done. Music. Just not a fan. I think it's kinda like above...I'm one of those people who will mouth or whisper lyrics if I know the song. I start thinking of the song and whats coming next instead of the shot. It's hard for me to block.
  24. Hey Cody...congrats on the move! I wish I knew more about the area but I'm a bit more knowledgable about the area around Winston/Greensboro. I've only played a few courses that way...and all were a bit more expensive. If you ever get over my way, give me a shout and we can play either at my place or some other tracks nearby.
  25. Rejected...again.
