  1. The last shot was a green in regulation..............kid you not! The head flew off..........the ball landed on the green 10' from the hole.
  2. Fun side note.... my family went to Indianapolis this summer 2 weeks ago. (Hardly a resort destination).... We went to Indy for the Junior gold youth bowling National Championships..... my son was competing. This is the biggest youth tourney in the country Yes...the clubs came along!! This isn't exactly a tourist destination, but this is how it goes whenever or wherever I travel for the most part. It is a week long tourney and the bowling schedule varied, so I have a few open "early" mornings. The 1 course on my radar was "Brickyard Crossing". It's a fantastic Pete Dye course with 4 holes going inside the indy speedway. It was on my radar and I wanted to play it!!!! I called the day before to see what's up......they say "C'mon out"...... I was paired with the first group on the course and played a member..........it was a retired indy-car race driver named SNEVA! Haha....fun stuff! I had plans to play a different course the next day, but we had so much fun....they invited me to join them again the next day. So I did...... I played Brickyard Crossing twice.......fun stuff!! I played 4 times that week, but the Brickyard Crossing was the highlight. I carded an 81 first day due to lack of course knowledge......76 the next day. This is an excellent golf course..... i Highly recommend it to travelers.........
  3. Whenever I travel on family vacations, my clubs always "come with". My goal is always to be "FIRST OFF"....... My only regret is that on some resort courses.... the first tee time is later than I prefer!! LOL some resort courses don't have a first tee time until 7 or 730!! I see this when traveling abroad..... 6-630am is the sweet spot for me while on vacation, but I rarely get to play that early. On a typical week long vacation, I'll play twice........ and I'm normally back at the hotel by 10-11am. I plan my golf around the vacation itinerary and it's never an issue. When it comes to high end resort courses, I never seem to have a problem snagging the first tee time and I rarely plan ahead to get tee times. They seem to have a lot of 2-somes making tee times. I normally don't even call to make arrangements until I am on vacation and in the area that week.........I'll call a few places and never have an issue leading the way.
  4. This comment resonates with me, and I am still working on the above to this day after playing for 25+ years. My advice to beginners......learn golf etiquette. Do that, and you will fit in just fine...............
  5. My sentiments exactly.................. Pressing is doubling the bet in attempt to recoup losses. If you press and fail.....you double your losses.
  6. I tend to avoid the courses that allow golfers to wear "Wife Beater" shirts. (or go shirtless) That's all I have to say about that! LOL....these are no doubt lousy courses anyway so it is what it is. The white socks thing, I believe the original poster was off the target with regard to dress codes. White socks clash with black slacks/and or shoes. I generally don't wear socks. I wear what I call "Crew Top" footies. They are footies that go ankle high. I wear both black and white shoes and wear the proper sock depending on the shoe choice. No course can enforce wearing white socks with black shoes...LOL
  7. I went from a 1.3 to a 1.1 with the August 1 revision, but I'll probably go up on the 15th revision because i have a pair of "72s" ready to drop.
  8. My 2 cents on this is it's 100% up to the discretion of the golf course. Many golf courses don't give players the option to decline being paired and it makes sense. If you book a tee time for less than a full group, the course can do whatever they want with regard to filling the slot and recovering lost revenue because your group failed to bring a "full group". I've run into this playing "Vacation Golf" at resort courses. I've been paired with groups and overheard them asking not to be paired. The starter said they didn't have a choice in the matter.
  9. Iacas, To me, a scratch golfer gets ZERO strokes on the golf course he is playing that day. The course HC will vary from course to course so it depends on the course being played. I guess a 0.1 is a bad example because this golfer will be close to a zero HC on a lot of courses.
  10. I didn't read the entire thread, but a golfer is a scratch golfer when their golf course HC is 0. The index is not relevant because the very same golfer could be a 3HC or a -2 on any given course depending on the course rating and slope of the course they are playing that day..
  11. I played in a new state last week and this got me thinking. I played three Pete Dye courses in the indianapolis area and this was my first golf played in Indiana. The most noteworthy was Brickyard Crossing and I loved that course!! ......so much so that I played it twice!! This is a fantastic course currently in phenomenal condition. I have to think hard to list the states I've played golf in........ this is a test....I keep getting logged out...ugh.....
  12. hahahahaha!!!!!!! Nice!!
  13. Well....it is if you live in the country midsection! Two solid days of rain so far! Uggh......... I hope to be able to play on the 4th! Two days.....a complete wash out. Yes, it's been hot and dry and we desperately needed the rain, but it's not supposed to rain now! LOL
  14. Sadly......... there is no way around winter rust short of moving south and continuing to play golf all winter. You can definitely continue to improve, but your game will follow that cycle that includes a big HC Bump upwards every spring. I need to play at least twice a week to maintain any resemblance of form.
  15. IMO... A Good stroke, but the green said NO>........................LOL I should never miss this putt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know this green well enough that I made this putt, but it bounced............ Worm Cam............is fun!!!
  16. Good question~! I carry a lot 2-3 dozen on average! of course this isn't the norm!!!!!!!! All I need is "A FEW" and I'm good!! (just in case)
  17. I absolutely never drink while playing golf. Drinking and playing don't mix. Only hacks think they play better impaired....................
  18. I tend to classify golfers in two groups. 1. Non golfers that occasionally play golf 2. Golfers (I'm a golfer) The non golfers are the guys that are clueless about etiquette and more often than not, they're the reason rounds take 5 hours. We've all seen these clowns out on the course. These categories aren't necessarily tied to ability either. I find that by playing early, the non-golfers can usually be avoided.
  19. Like the others have said...... I've teed off after 7pm and played 18 holes before dark. What time exactly? I have no clue.... I obviously didn't intend to play 18, but got lucky not to hit on course traffic.
  20. Moving in the right direction!!! 3.4........Down to a 1.9 July 1.................... I can't play tomorrow, so I know I know the end result! i CAN DIG IT!!
  21. I've been hitting my wedges well lately........................ Anything inside 130yds, and this is what I want!!
  22. Holy crap....I've made 2 eagles in the past 10 days, and missed a third from about 10 feet since!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the heck This is the view to a par5 green from a lay-up area....if you played the hole as a 3-shot hole.............going for it in 2 is big trouble. Do you see that little ball up there near the pin?????? I was laying there in 2.......... Sadly....when I got close, the ball wasn't as close as I hoped. The eagle putt was 8-10'..........See my ball up there?......it's Laying 2!!! I hit a perfect 5 wood from 227yds............CRUSHED it.....as straight as you can point!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I got close....I had about 8'........................but missed this putt.
  23. This is a message to "THE HOPEFUL"................no matter how bad your game is now, drastic improvements are possible! I still swing like a "wood chucker"....and I've been scratch. The point is.....you can do it! There is no right or wrong swing.....you can do it your own way with good results. Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PS...be sure to learn how to chip and putt..................................... LOL
  24. My 75yr old dad (the cameraman) loves golf, and would have loved to play golf with me. He recently had heart surgery and couldn't play during his visit. We live 740 miles apart, but he was healthy enough to be cleared for a road trip, but not to play golf. I only played 9 holes...........He came to the course for the sole purpose of taking video...........LOL Fun times!!! I'd rather play golf with my dad, but having him hold the camera was fun too. My golf swing is ugly as hell........I get that!!!................. but I'm trending a 2.5 index......... I'll probably get under 1 before the year is over. It's not all about how it looks..........LOL With that same ugly swing, I got to scratch in 2012.
