Tracking Mental Mistakes - Scorecard
Ben replied to boogielicious's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I understand the point of "I'm an 11 so..." But, if you continue to focus on the bad shots you've made [subconsciously] you'll continue to hit them. Personally I forget the "bad shots" (as I've learned from reading Bob Rotella) and instead, post-round I make note of all the good shots I hit. Trying to be as detailed as possible. Focusing on the good will re-enforce itself and you'll start playing smarter shots, most of the time. It is hard to stay 100% focused all the time, I know, I play this game too. But, it's crucial to advance your game. Here's an example of a recent round, I call the file "Good Shots" -
grrrr. Its been just over a month now since my inception into the "I broke my collarbone cycling" club. I see you guys here and my friends on Strava, the weather is perfect out in here SoCal right now. And just to rub it in, I've received two jerseys in the mail that I ordered before the crash. I want back on dangit!! Sep 2nd Sep 10th

Ill fitting plaid pants and red hats for the US along with diarhea yellow-green shirts for the Euros. Worst color ever! Just goes to show, golfers are the most fashionably challenged people on earth.

Yeah, right? I had made a comment earlier in the Ryder Cup thread about the chants and roars during play today. Quite an electrifying environment today. I felt a rush just watching from my laptop. Although, its one thing to roar and chant for a team to root them on, its another to yell catch phrases like a total jackass.
-
As much flack as American crowds have been getting around TST this season, you can't deny the roars and chants on the course so far. I'm charged up, feeling the energy and I'm just sitting here watching on my laptap! U S A !

That's what Im' thinking. Plus lifetime entry to the Masters

Hi Welcome Can you send me some caphe sua da? I can drink it all day, so good!

Unfortunately, one day later and the meds are working just enough to fight the pain, no other "fun effects" :) Maybe later in the week??

Went in for surgery yesterday. The healing process begins, with much help from Percocet I might add. This stuff is great! Anyway, Doc claims 4months before I'm back on the course. I don't buy it. When I broke my ankle he told me 9months and I played my first tournament in 9weeks.

yeah I noticed Cauley was higher up in OWGR. Didn't know about the top 10s stats though. I know he would be the other big competition for John. But come on, Its gotta be HUH!
-
1 Win 26th FedEx Cup. Only rookie to make the Tour Championship. 20/26 Cuts made 4 Top 10s 65th OWGR Undisputed Rookie of the Year? I'd certainly hope so. Super year John HUH!

John had a great round yesterday of -6 which has him up near the lead and just barely inside the top 30 heading into round 3 of the BMW today. He's been paired with Adam Scott both days so far. He's still got Adam in his group along with Zack Johnson now. How cool! Let's see another 66 today! (or better of course!)

One more year of Qschool then its gone. But if you haven't signed up yet, then yes, its gone... It'll probably be up next season on pgatour.com?

Thanks again guys. An update, Turns out the ER totally misdiagnosed me! Not only did they give me a useless immobilizer, but they told me 90% of clavicle breaks heal naturally with time, and thats the break I have. Well, I went to my orthopedic surgeon today to see if things were coming along, and to check if I was wearing the immobilizer correctly and a few other concerns. They took an XRay to find out that my bone was waaaay to far broken to heal on its on, and that if i wanted a functional arm, that surgery is highly recommended! I wonder if I have some kind of case? Check out the xray for yourself...

Play in the AJGA. That's where kids really get nocited these days. High School golf won't get you much unless you're the top dog and breaking par all the time.

I started a thread here which outlines a great practice routine I've created. http://thesandtrap.com/t/43452/i-love-practicing-putting It all comes down to practice (with whatever routine you develop). Building that confidence in knowing that you can knock down putts. And seeing that ball drop over and over again. Constant practice is what will make anyone a superb putter. Someone mentioned Rotella's book. I've read it and highly recommend it.

As far as QSchool goes, send your good thoughts to my friend Moah Chang. After a rough year she had a couple decent showings at her last two Futures Tour events. Looking for her to keep the momentum going into QSchool. Go Moahs!!

Thanks guys, The pain of the injury is gone, but I'm quite uncomfortable. Yesterday my shirt was stuck to the road rash on my back. Needless to say, undressing was not one of the highlights of my evening. Andy yeah, Fractured my ankle in 2008. Putting my expert powers of healing back to work!
-
I'm done... Not that I'm beyond frustration, or lost my confidence, but, because I went flying over the handlebars of my road bike (bicycle) yesterday morning. Landed on my head first, then collarbone, then shoulderblade. The end result is a fractured collarbone and a 6-8week healing process. Pretty banged up now. uncomfortably sore keeping my shoulder propped in this position in my de-mobilizer. Korean Tour QSchool is at the end of Oct, Don't think I'll be ready in time. Oh well

I post this a few times a year at my club. Our members are lazy. Its sad. I've always seen fixing a ball mark as something fun a badge of honor. I've hit the green! I'll be happy to fix my mark! And that that turns into, there's another one, oh, and there's one more...

Another golf marathon went down today. This time it was a fundraiser for The First Tee. I played for 8 hours. Got in 72 hole! Even, -4, +1 and -3 to finish at -6 for the day. Two doubles, five bogeys and fifteen birdies for a total of -6 par. The last round could have been something really special. My putter turned possessed! I birdied one, then went stale, parring until the 7th. Hit from 8' for birdie there, then from 6' on 8 and then 15' up a tier on 9. par, par on 10 and 11. Then dropped a 35'er on 12. I honestly felt like I couldn't miss! -5 at that point, then doubled the ultra easy par -5 13th... lame. And parred out from there. This is my first time playing 72 in one day.

Any tips for the dreaded 30-50yd bunker shot?
Ben replied to dash1988's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I went out to my regular practice spot on my course today for an hour and a half to practice short game, mainly bunker shots. What started out as short high shots, turned into longer (30y max) bunker shots. For those I did what you're talking about. I do have a 54, but I use that mainly for approach shots. I have a 58 for my around the green shots. In rediscovering my short, high bunker shot technique, I applied the same technique to the long shots, as you suggest, squaring the clubface more to the target and simply hit the shot the same. As well, as someone posted the Luke Donald Mizuno series video above, (I've seen those videos before) and remembered what he talks about in keeping the hands a bit forward for "chunk and runs. Totally works. -
How long before you stopped hitting topped/fat shots?
Ben replied to SoundandFury's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
As others have said, you don't stop hitting fat and/or thin shots. Over time and with experience you simply hit them less often, and to a degree that isn't quite so penalizing. Keep playing, keep practicing
