I am a natural lefty who plays right-handed. When I was little my dad showed me how to hit a baseball, so I stood on the same side of the plate that he did. He was right-handed. I have not tried to hit long clubs left-handed, but I have tried putting and I putt left-handed and cross-handed. I really like the feel i get. I was never happy putting right-handed. I felt I lacked the distance control and it just didn't feel correct. So, I tried a left-handed putter and loved it with the right-handed grip. I have tried going back to a right-handed putter, but still don't like it.

I saw a great video on the golf channel on-demand that has actually helped my putting. It was with Gary Player. Player said people have to much of a tendency to try and watch the ball go in. He said you need to keep a quiet head, (not moving your head during putting). He suggested listening for the ball to go in the cup. You don't have to see it go in, you can hear it go in. I tried this and my missed putts were so much closer than usual, and I made a lot more putts than usual. It was a great tip and it really helps you concentrate on speed. Try it, works for me. That's my 2 cents.

I have a very high handicap. A lot of it is due to mental game. I will mentally blow a couple of holes and post big numbers. As far as game improvement. This has worked for me. I got a lesson first. Your instructor will tell you what to work on. Then, go to the range, twice a week. One day work on what your instructor's lessons. The second day, pitch and putt. You can spend 30 minutes to an hour at the range each day. Play golf as often as you can, but maintain a good practice schedule. Once you have reached a level of contentment regarding your first lesson. Go back and get another one. It could be 1 month or 3 months later, whatever is comfortable, but keep your schedule. This consistent work will really improve your game. I have been keeping this schedule since February and my ball striking has really improved. My course management not so much, but the swing and feel are getting better. Hope this helps.

Absolutely. It is my understanding, and I may be wrong, but the lower your spin rate the better. The higher the spin rate, the more the ball is likely to curve in the direction of the spin. You want a club with a lower spin rate. Less spin = straighter flight. If the ball is higher than you like, you may want to try lower lofted drivers, and/or try flex shafts. Don't quote me but if you want a lower flight of ball you should go with a stiffer shaft. I would verify that with a fitter or others here on the board, but at the very least, you will be asking a question that needs to be asked. Hope this helps, or points you in the right direction

On a round of golf, I lost my initial ball which was rock, my next ball out of my bag was a top flite strata tour soft. It played very well the rest of the round so, I did some research and found out it was a low compression ball, which a soft shell. I also found out that slower swing speeds are more compatible with a lower compression ball. This was all new to me as I was/am getting serious about the game. I found out that this ball was no longer in production, but the D2 Feel has just come into production and had similar stats. I bought a box based on what I consider value. (good reviews and a good price) and love them. They play as straight as I can play , and are quite good on the greens. My $.02

I will be purchasing a new driver in the new couple of days. I have narrowed it down to two clubs. A Nike Sumo squared 13* senior shaft and a Macgregor Mactec NVG2 11.5 degree senior shaft. I have a slower swing speed cause of a bad back, so I want to keep my swing fairly slow, at least until I'm good enough to consider changing shafts, and my flexibility is better. What would you do? Thanks

In all honesty, the only opportunity most humans will have for a hole-in-one will be on a par 3 hole, no matter what the length. Whether there are a bunch of them back to back on a par 3 course or a few par 3 holes scattered on a large course. It counts. Congrats

As for me, who is perpetually broke, I set goals. I put aside a few bucks every month/paycheck and will get something at the beginning of the new seasaon. That way I can shop and demo the new and different products that have come to market and I will have the previous season to see where I need help. Setting a goal will help you focus and help curtail the need for instant gratification. Just a few thoughts ...

Hitting one good shot. The rest of the round seems to go a lot smoother and scores are generally better. Doesn't always happen at the same time, but the one good one helps me lead to another ...
