Such a horrible injury to this young guy. When I saw it on ESPN just minutes after it happened, I felt sick. Not really from the injury, but because the kid is young and has a long road to recovery now. I didn't see anything graphic besides the break itself, so I'm hoping it was just a clean break and he comes back 100%. I also saw Kevin Ware's though on the other hand, and that was 100% worse visually (you could clearly see 3-4 inches of bone sticking out of his shin's skin) and he never played another game.

The Official (Not Official At All) Drugs & Alcohol Thread

Long-term alcohol abuse (alcoholism) can lead to severe withdrawal which includes the "shakes and sweats", convulsions, delirium, and possibly death. Pot heads don't have the shakes, sweats, or risk of death from not smoking pot anymore. I seriously encourage you to research physically dependent drugs and what chemical dependence actually is. I don't mean that in a condescending way at all. I think the more people are educated on the topic, the better. Quote: For our purposes, the term chemical dependency , refers to a primary illness or disease which is characterized by addiction to a mood-altering chemical. Chemical dependency includes both drug addiction and alcoholism (addiction to the drug alcohol). -
There are "cover-ups" in every sport, business, school, police department, government branch, etc. though. At least the PGA comes straight out and says "We decide whether or not we make these types of issues public". That's not necessarily a "cover-up" in my book and in my own opinion. A cover-up, to me at least, is some entity going out of their way to fabricate and materialize things in order to literally cover-up the truth, whether that's with lies, paying people off, etc. Simply withholding private information of a player who is having personal issues is not a cover-up, that's just called 'confidential and private'.

Apparently, Duffy gave his putter away to a little boy on the 10th hole this past weekend in Akron at the WGC Bridgestone. Here's a link to the Grantland article: This is an exchange between Shane Ryan of Grantland and Dufner: Quote: “Jason,” I said, “I heard a story that you gave your putter away to a kid yesterday. I wanted to make sure it was true.” “Yup.” “Was that on no. 12?” “Ten.” http://grantland.com/the-triangle/rory-vs-sergio-ii-same-ending-different-story/ Dude is a class act. 100% class.

I sear steak for flavor and texture. Seared crisp outside and med. rare inside. Perfection. Also, perfect grill marks or bust in my opinion!

3x 12oz strip steaks and some grilled/seasoned fries for dinner. Also a Great Lakes Brewing Company Lake Erie Monster 4 pack for an appetizer!

I'm not saying that I personally am arguing what happened because I wasn't there. Just saying that it's fairly obvious that he's going to do damage to a woman regardless of how he hits her. Raising your hand to anybody is intent to harm, otherwise why are you doing it? The black and white fact is that you're trying to hurt the other person - whether it's an offensive or defensive act. I boxed for 7 years and definitely understand circumstances and what it takes to knock somebody out. I can also say that the instances where people are KO'd by mishap (slaps, bumps on the jaw/temple/neck, etc.) are rare. I can't find the link now, but the report that I read said she was pretty busted up so I could only assume it was a damn good hit. Regardless, women have no right hitting men. Men definitely do not need to hit back if they are hit either. That is how I was raised. If a woman jacks me in the mouth and I am still standing, you bet I'm walking away because I know just how much damage one of my retaliation hits could, and likely would, do to a woman. That's simply my belief. I don't agree with the "if she hits me like a man, I'll treat her like a man" deal because that's ridiculous in my opinion. In conclusion, I think Ray Rice is a punk. You don't raise your hand to a woman, period. I can't have even the slightest amount of respect for anyone who hits a woman unless they're doing so with their life or property in danger (a robbery, armed attack, or a similarly justifiable scenario).

Eh... some may argue that a jacked NFL player punching a tiny chick in the face is intent to harm. I mean, she was KO'd after all. That wasn't a held-back, love tap to let her know that he was pissed. That was a haymaker.

If a Billion Dollar Golfer Doesn't Mind Going Bald...
Spyder replied to boogielicious's topic in Tour Talk
I gave up the fight back when I was 19 and left a military style, crew-cut-buzzed patch on top. By 21 I pulled out the Mach 3 and went clean. Same style now, but it's the Fusion ProGlide Flex Ball lol. -
I should not have passed up the tickets that I was offered to attend this year. It's only about 15 minutes away from me and I haven't even gone once (lived here all of my life too). I think I'll go next year for sure.

Haha, you have to love the exclusions. Right on the money and that cracked me up. I actually have a Golf Galaxy coupon at home right now which is almost verbatim to what you listed. Needless to say, I've successfully used maybe one coupon that I've ever been sent and that turned out to be 5% off of $100 worth of regripping.

I don't think you can really say that getting fitted for wedges isn't possible. You can go get fit at any Golfsmith, Golf Galaxy, or any local club retailer as well. For me personally, I wanted the perfect fit in terms of grind, weight, topline, sole, etc. and I searched like hell to find the perfect wedges that instill the most confidence and perform well. For me, I found Scratch to be the best wedges for me. I love the turf interaction and feel. Wedges are very personal in my opinion and since they're relied upon heavily in terms of your scoring (approaches being more important than putting in my opinion), I wanted to be sure that I had the best tool for my game. I do use my PW and GW that came with my Titleist set, but never from within 100 yards that I can remember. They just don't promote confidence or the spin/results that I'm accustomed to with my Scratch wedges.

I can't help but buy Nike, Under Armour and Adidas polos because they fit me perfectly. I wear them damn near year round and to work as well. The dress in our office is business casual and nothing is more comfortable for 12 hours a day than dress slacks and a polo in my opinion. If I hit the range or course after work, I'm simply changing out my shoes and sometimes slacks for my Adidas Clima-Lite Tech Tour pants/shorts. I would never pay $70 for a polo per MSRP tags though. Go to the outlet stores, search online and check out Golf Galaxy and Golf Smith's clearance racks. I've walked into Golf Galaxy and checked out a new Nike shirt that I liked only to see that it was $70 and I just laughed and moved on. A week later I found that same shirt on clearance for $24.99 with a red sticker and my size (XL) as well. Never pay full price unless you like giving your money away. There's always a cheaper price somewhere, you just have to look.

NEW Titleist 915D Driver, First Look
Spyder replied to mvmac's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I can assure you that 270 is much longer than average. If you want to upgrade for the sake of having something shiney and new though, hell, go for it. You may pick up yards with the newer 913 or 915. Demo it first though, obviously. -
These guys aren't Browns fans. Please don't put them in the same category as myself and other normal people who love our city and our sports teams. There's being a supportive fan and enjoying sports (I've played them my entire life and consider myself a "die-hard" fan) and there's being an idiotic piece of garbage who takes things way beyond the line. These guys are trash, period.

NEW Titleist 915D Driver, First Look
Spyder replied to mvmac's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Eh, mayyybe . I'll have to go demo one over at Golfsmith and see how I feel. I'm not one to usually upgrade clubs when I'm playing well and right now my driving is the best that it has been, ever. I'm really nervous about messing with club changes. -
Easy, Dave! Sodium overload, bro! Fire up that grill and throw some boneless/skinless chicken breast on it with some portobello caps stuffed with cheese, tomatoes and spinach. Get some nice sweet corn and shuck it half way to remove the silk, let it soak for 30 minutes and then throw those bad boys on the grill too. Come on, doesn't that sound good? I bet you hear your grill calling your name again... "Daaaavveeee...." FWIW, I just made myself incredibly hungry so this will likely be dinner for me now. Along with whatever 9% or higher IPA that catches my eye at the store.

Haha. It was definitely enormous. Here is the place where we ate that while on vacation. Tony's I-75 in Birch Run, MI. Skip to 0:44 for the BLT and again at like 2:00. EDIT: This place goes through 10,000 POUNDS of bacon in a WEEK! God, I feel sick reliving the memory now lol.

Absolutely pumped! I do think it's funny that my Browns are waiting so damn long to just say "Manziel is our starter". I mean, I love Hoyer's game and determination but there's no way Manziel is not starting the season. If Manziel is out the starter, I expect complete anarchy by week 3 in the stands.

lol If you really did that and didn't realize that's an Albatross and technically an "Ace" all in one, you're going to be celebrating hard tonight I hope. That's the holy grail in golf if you ask me and I would have slept with that ball with a Crown Royal smile on my face.

There will always be a way for people to beat the system though. If not Dick's, they'll do this same thing with GS as my buddy did, or Golf Galaxy. Or, they'll pay $50-150 for a fitting at a training center and then go buy their clubs for much less online as well. As long as iron sets are $800 off the rack at the big box stores, people will remain inclined to do their shopping online for 50% less and that is understandable and reasonable in my opinion. I can't think of anyone that is going to pay $200-500 more for irons to say "Hey, at least I supported a privately owned and operated golf equipment store!". People may do that to receive a hassle-free warranty, or with a fitting included, but not solely for the purpose of being a stand-up guy with the intention of supporting the golf economy. At least, nobody that I know will do that - regardless of their financial means. In fact, the people I know who make the most money tend to be the most cautious and are the ones looking for the steepest discounts. This isn't what ultimately did Dick's in though. Aside from people being able to find better deals online, Dick's did a bad job of marketing the PGA Pros that they employed. If somebody started a poll based on whether or not people knew PGA staffers were located in Dick's stores across the country, I bet the vote is a 5-1 no or worse.

I know a guy that did this a few months ago. He went to GS and tried some Callaway X2 Hot Pro irons because he saw them on RockBottom for $279.00 for the full set of 3-PW (insane deal and like $400 less than what GS/GG were selling them for). He went in, used the irons on a sim and made the order from his phone while he was still using the damn clubs. Based on principle, that sounds wrong. But $400.00 is a lot of money to 99% of the population and he did what most logical people would do. I definitely can imagine that people did this with more knowledgeable people at Dick's since they had certified professionals staffed. The GS by us has maybe two people who know what they're doing and they just opened less than 2 months ago. The rest of the staff looks like they're gearing up to go into their senior year of HS this fall. Hopefully these guys find jobs at courses, training facilities and/or ranges as soon as possible. I don't like hearing that anyone lost their job, let alone a mass quantity of what is likely a group of quality guys with a passion for the game.

Ha, small world! I think you'll enjoy it. It's a tough course. It's also very well maintained and manicured. Rain has not been abundant this year, so the greens are running much faster than they usually are.

Our area is saturated with golf stores. We have 2 "mom n' pop" golf shops that are owned, operated and solo-staffed by 2 PGA professionals. Then, 10 miles in the opposite direction we have Dick's, Golfsmith and Golf Galaxy. The GS and GG are literally across the street from one another as GS just opened up like less than 2 months ago. This is another problem in my opinion. I don't think we need to have 4 shops within a 10 miles radius. I, like many others, never knew Dick's employed PGA Professionals so Dick's clearly had no advertising or marketing budget invested into making that a known fact. If you go to GS or GG's website, you'll clearly see a list of each certified PGA Professional with a picture of them - per location. Dick's couldn't even market the fact that they at least employ PGA Pros at their store, so that's a major fail by Dick's in my opinion. Whenever I did go into a Dick's Sporting Goods store, the golf section was always empty with maybe one person holding a driver and browsing. On the other hand, GS and GG are absolutely packed on Friday evenings and the weekend. Good luck to everyone affected. I hope you find something more enjoyable, more secure and more rewarding as soon as possible gentlemen.

Courses Should Pair Players according to skill if possible
Spyder replied to atxpkrgolf's topic in Golf Talk
Nobody said that high handicappers were consistent. That is like saying black is really white, it's self evident in the sentence. What you stated was that higher handicap golfers do not average drives of 250 yards and I told you that is not true. You can still have a lot of distance and lack consistency in terms of keeping the ball in play, or in salvageable position on the course. My only correction and comment to what you said was that there are high handicap players who have great distance. It's obvious and goes without say that they lack consistency though.
