The top 5 names on the leader board after it's said and done: (In no particular order) Bubba Watson Rickie Fowler Dustin Johnson Jason Day Luke Donald

Shot a 53 on a par 35 from the white tees. I pared the 1st and the 9th. High note: My approach shot on the par 4 9th hole landed >4ft from the hole. But since I'm a beginner, I choked on the easy putt.

There are courses that don't allow walking? I always thought it was just another option. I can see the pace of play issue with walkers on a busy course though.

I don't approve of people who hold someone to the standard that they were at years ago. It just doesn't make sense to judge a current someone based solely on a mistake in their past.

What cool social/custom rules have you played under?

Am I the only one that has never seen a green with a tree in the middle of it? -
Even if I could afford it, I wouldn't rent a cart at any course unless I had someone with me that absolutely needed it. I would love a course like that.

Shot a 68 on a par 36. Still struggling with finding a consistent swing. I didn't hit a straight shot til my approach on the 7th. So frustrating.

Long Putters and Belly Putters Taking Over

We can only wonder what Robert Garrigus thinks of this trend. -
Well the club I just joined has a "no street or tennis shoes on greens" rule. So I ended up buying some adidas adiCOMFORTs.

I did not use experience as an excuse. I said that he's taking longer to develop than others. Especially his mental game. There's no doubt in my mind he deserves the title "choke artist". But with the amount of talent he has, you have to expect he'll acquire the mental game soon.
-
Some people take longer to develop than others. That's all I can say. Lebron James isn't finishing 4 quarters but is still considered possibly the top player in his sport. Rickie Fowler continues to choke in the final round but "sucks"? C'mon guys, you guys have surely seen his talent. He's taking longer to get there than most with his talent, but I would say he is far from being qualified for that word.

Rickie has got to go beast mode to take this one. Good thing about this event for me is that I have about 5 of my favorite players within 4 strokes off the lead, or the lead itself. (Rickie, Bubba, Gary Woodland, Webb Simpson, and Dustin Johnson). Thank God I'm not going anywhere today. I missed too much of this weekend's coverage because of work.

Okay. Best golf shoe in the $60 or less category?

I just got a membership that allows me to play at 3 different clubs in my area including one within 3 miles of my house, so hopefully I'll get to play there a lot during the week. I don't know if I'll have enough money for a lesson this week, considering I still have to buy golf shoes and I really want to buy my dad a cheap set so he can play with me. I'm figuring in a couple weeks I'm definitely gonna get a half hour lesson. Just to get the proper swing motion down. I'm thinking once I can get a consistent swing down I won't need another lesson until I'm approaching the next stage in development. I used to play golf everyday as a kid from about 9-12 years old, and I found that I was pretty good. So the process right now is just finding that skill again.

http://espn.go.com/golf/story/_/id/6912436/rocco-mediate-says-tiger-woods-needs-fix-swing I'm not one to talk about the specifics of Tiger's swing problems, but what do you guys think about Rocco's statements? I've heard a lot of negative about Tiger's current coach, Sean Foley, so I'm wondering if maybe Tiger will give Rocco a listen.

I would love to play in my tennis shoes to save money for a bit until I can buy a pair of golf shoes, but even though tennis shoes are less likely to leave marks than metal spikes, they aren't allowed. I could care less if I get the best shoe or not, I'm just beginning right now. All I need is a pair that I will be allowed to play on the course in.
-
I can't really afford a few lessons right now. But I guess I'll just study some good youtube stuff and practice. I just really wanna get out there and not worry about holding back the pairing.
-
Rickie, Bubba, and Keegan all at -3. And Gary Woodland at -2. I'm pretty content right now. I'm hoping at least one of them contends.

I wanted to get some feedback on the issue I have right now. Basically I'm dying to get back on to the course because all I've been able to do is practice my swing for the past week. My problem is that I'm afraid to go get paired with someone or some people and be the one hitting 3+ more strokes on each hole. To put it into perspective, a couple weeks ago my score on a par 36 public 9 hole course was 81 (I'm well aware that is beyond terrible). Granted, I feel like I have improved my swing motion since then, but having not hit the range or the course recently, I really can't know if I'm gonna be hitting the ball into the next fairway again. What's your advice?

Anything good for under $60? I need to buy a pair before I get to play at the club this week.

The Biggest Secret? Slide Your Hips
FowlPlay replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Excuse me for not reading through all the pages, and as you might be able to guess, I'm a beginner. The gist of this is to slide your hips through impact and delay the rotation of the hips to just after impact?- 949 replies

First of all, they shouldn't have even dropped it off NBC even if they were promising it on the Golf Channel. But I guess I'm the only one who doesn't have cable or satellite.
-
Right now, that's what I'm doing. Just got back into golf about a month ago, but I haven't had the chance to hit the range or the course more than once. A lot of my time is spent just working on the basic mechanics of the swing. But since I'm about to get a club membership, I'm sure I'll be spending a lot more time on the course learning the game. And it's also a lot more enjoyable to actually learn while you play.

Coming from one of those people: we don't know where to find these great drills. I mean, yes, there are a few good youtubers, but in reality, I can't figure out if I'm correcting a problem unless I hit an actual golf ball.

Yeahhhh Red Sox! Pretty sweet seeing that.
