Grips that won't slip out of your hand for a decent cost?
bwinger79 replied to CG031's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Stay away from the TaylorMade TGT grips at all cost. They are the worst grips on the market by far. First thing I do every time I buy a TM club is re-grip it. GolfPride Tour Velvet are great grips and cheap, but nothing replaces the Multi-Compound. -
Do Golf Shoes make much difference?
bwinger79 replied to mcecki's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Adidas Powerband.......best shoes on the market..... if you have the $140 I highly recommend them. I have tried everything from Footjoy to Nike, and have never been more pleased with a golf shoe. -
It is very difficult to recommend a driver to someone else. You really need to go out and hit different clubs and see what you like. Launch monitors and professional fitters are key aspects of this process. I love my driver(TM R5 TP) even though it is a few years old, I still havent found anything I hit better. It has the open face you are looking for, heavier shaft(78g), and you should be able to get a great deal on one off of ebay. I would really recommend going to get professionally fit though. If you like the head of the driver you have you may want to consider just getting the club re-shafted. Hi-Bore XL Tour with Diamana Whiteboard is a cannon, but not cheap.

Nothing about his right hand grip is weak. -
Video swing analysis software - For Macs?
bwinger79 replied to tji's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I was just busting your balls about the TV. Just one of the funniest things I have ever heard. Viruses do exist for MAC, just not nearly as many. You should be able to run a Windows based software on your MAC and even if you get a "windows" virus, it isnt going to effect the MAC OS, especially using an emulator like Virtual PC. Not sure what the cost of those programs are though..... seeing I am a PC guy. -

You can run XP on a MAC with Virtual PC. This would solve your issues and stop you from drawing on any of your TV's.....LOL -

As most have already stated, you really need to work on your spine angle and keeping it throughout your swing. This will in time lead to better ball striking. You also seem to have a little bit of a reverse pivot in your swing, but I think it is a product of your inside takeaway coupled with the club lift that you have near the top of your backswing. Fixing your spine angle may correct the over-rotation and the inside takeaway. Your right hand looks a little strong to me, but if that grip works for you dont change it. You also have a little over the top move that leads to the hand flip through impact. I would guess that your shot shape is very inconsistent??? Keeping your left wrist flat at the top and down into impact(added to what I previously stated) should get your shots on a tighter dispersion. PS.... dont break that glass table!!!! -
Most places like Golf Galaxy will let the price of the fitting go if you purchase the club from them the same day. If you are talking about HotStix, they do not fit for free. Most am's wouldnt even be able to benefit from a HotStix fitting. They are for tour caliber players, assuming you are meaning Hot Stix Golf.

The flex of the shaft may not be the problem. I doubt you need a X shaft, but you never know until you hit a launch monitor. You may want to check into getting a shaft with a lower torque rating. This will take some of that "whippy" feel out of the club. If you ask me, the shaft is the most important part of any club, and it is in your best interests to try different shafts if you have a facility near you that has a fitting cart that allows them to quick change shafts.

Why??? There are what????.... 2 putters on the market that are longer than stock drivers.... and by an inch. I dont think that 2 inches really gives an advantage in any situation.

A post like that is what makes someone like me question what you have posted for you handicap. If that were really your cap, you would be able to answer that remark yourself. Someone with your cap does not rely on a "flyer" to reach a par 5 in two. Post your real cap please!!!!!!!

What club do you use to hit a 200 yards par-3?
bwinger79 replied to ronaldkuntoro's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Change your signature. People like you are the reason people in america have a low opinion about your country. Dont quote someone on something so stupid and think you are going to get away with it just because someone famous said it. -
I dont know what kind of rough you play in, but it sounds like I need to get out to Mass. to golf. I will take a nice, tight fairway lie any day over rough, even first cut.
-
TM R5 TP 9.5 Diamana stiff. Great club. Higher caps will not like the open face though.

5 iron....unless there is a little head wind, then I would hit a 4 hybrid. -
I agree with you that this sport is for entertainment, but drug use among the players does need to be looked in to. It gives the using players an advantage, and takes away from the integrity of the game. Sure 350yd drives are fun to watch, but once it becomes the norm, some of this games greatest courses will be rendered useless. I dont think Player made the comments he made to get his name in the paper. He is still the "world ambassador" for golf, and I think more than anything he is worried about cheating in the game he devoted his life to. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

What if in this "self exploration period" someone were to ingrain poor technique into muscle memory? Wouldnt that just be a waste of time? Go see a pro and get grounded in the fundamentals of the golf swing. Once you have your fundamentals down, you might be able to figure it out from there.
-
Definitely use whats working, I'm not saying not to, just simply stating that I have playing partners that started using a forward press to get better ball contact and it led to their swing falling apart. Be wary, thats all.
-
In some cases that forward press is only a band-aid for a swing that needs to be fixed.

Some of the "players" cavity backs on the market are every bit as forgiving as irons marketed to high cap players. If you are banging the ball off the toe, there isn't a club on the market that is going to help you.

Taylormade Burner TP vs. Superquad TP
bwinger79 replied to DDBowdoin's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
You need to find a place that you can demo these clubs. Reviews are fun to read, but in the end tell you nothing about a product. You need to swing it for yourself to see if it is a fit for you and your game. Both drivers have their "target audience", but if you dont like a light shaft then I can tell you that the Burner TP is not a club for you, at least not with the factory shaft. Personally, I think anything over 45" belongs in long drive contests only. The extra 5 yards isnt worth the directional sacrifice IMO. The Superquad is going to give you more versatility off the tee, but again you have to hit these yourself to see how they feel and react in your hands. As I have said in about 90% of my other posts, LAUNCH MONITOR!!!!! Especially if you plan on spending that kind of money on a driver. You might find out that neither gives you the numbers you are looking for off the tee. -
How to hit hybrids and/or long irons
bwinger79 replied to srjorion's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Hit your hybrids just as you would any other iron. Descending blow is key, unless you have the ball teed up and you are trying to hit it really high. Think 8 iron swing next time you are on the range with a hybrid in your hand. As for hitting down with your driver and woods, it is necessary in some conditions. I take divots with my fairways all the time off the tee. Keeps the ball on a much lower trajectory which is key for me in windy conditions, although when there is no wind, tee it high and let it fly. -
I couldnt agree more. You need to be grounded in your fundamentals in order to progress in this game, although driver is a huge part of todays game. Many kids are learning to hit it as far as they can first, and straighten it out second, which will work for some, but not for the masses, even though driving the ball 320 usually leaves a pretty short second shot, even if that drive is a little off line. If you want to drop your scores, practice as much short game as you can. This is where you will really start to shave strokes off your game.

When buying wedges you really need to consider the type of courses and conditions you usually play in. You will also want to buy the proper lofts to make sure that you have consistent gaps in your yardages from club to club. Bounce angles are going to vary, and thats where the course conditions come in. If you typically play courses with very fluffy sand and deep rough, you are going to want to look into getting some wedges with more bounce, firmer courses with less rough and firm sand will require less bounce. Short game creativity also comes into the picture when buying wedges. If you like opening up the face of your wedges around the greens, you may want to buy a wedge that sits a little flatter when the face is open. Its all personal preference, but higher cap players would do better with a gap wedge in their bag than a lob wedge. You really just gotta try different clubs and see what suits your game.

My advice..... try everything on the market and see what you like the best. A set of irons can be a pretty big investment for some, so you might as well try everything out there before you spend $800 on an iron set.
