  1. I think if you are going to take money form anyone you need to have a better response than "look I am just a golfer".
  2. iacas knows way more about this than I do. But I just want to point out that 2 things: 1- the LIV business model was to over pay trash player. No wonder their TV matches were unwatchable and business model unsustainable 2-Imagine being trash and getting paid all that much $? That has to inflate their ego a bit. Even if these players return to the PGA, they are going to slide out of the top 50 an on to the local put-put tour.
  3. Who runs the Champions tour and LPGA? Maybe that is what I watch from now on, on the the rare occurrence that I watch pro golf! China, unlike SA, also did not murder Jamal Khashoggi
  4. The PGA has continued to be compelling. It is anyone's week. Anyone can step up and play well. From what I have seen with LIV, it is not compelling. It is like watching paint dry. LIV to me, had the competitive attitude of a bunch of Frat dudes crushing MGDs while trying to up one another.
  5. So now those loyal to the PGA will have to suck it up and shake hands with those who took blood money to play less (for family reasons) and yet want to grow the game. I agree with the article, if LIV guys want to come back, they got to pay a hefty fine, which can be distributed to the players!
  6. If Rory is not rolling into that meeting with a pillowcase full of golf balls, then he is indeed worthy of sainthood!
  7. PGA to golfers-"dont take that money or your dead to us" PGA to PIF (the Saudi investment fund)- "we will take that money, just leave it on the night stand"
  8. Seriously, he stayed with the PGA. Turned down a 💩ton of money. Only to end up merging. Ooooof!
  9. I did not like LIV golf due to the backers. I did not like LIV golf because of the format. If the PGA turns to LIV's format and incorporates more of the TFG, I have no issue watching less. In reality, I enjoy playing golf. I dont live (no pun intended) to watch golf. Maybe the Majors, with the Masters and British Open taking top honors. Secondly, when the PGA announcement to players indicates “Execution of the agreement", did anyone else think what I thought?
  10. I have seen way too many people trying to play from the tips and shouldnt be. This group tends to be in front of me and slows down the pace of play, because they are not hitting the fairway, not on the green in regulation and adding strokes to a hole when they dont need to. When I play with friend who are seniors, I gladly move up to the tee with them to speed the game up and get a different perspective of the course. And really who doesnt have fun when the par 3's are 110 and the par 5's are 380 😂
  11. The hotel I was in this weekend had satellite TV which was broadcasting the tournament (I use the word tournament very lightly). I had a few moments in between games and watched about 5 mins. I hate the feel of it from the broadcast, to the score bug, to the overall vibe. The golfers gave of frat guy golf outing vibes, or maybe corporate scramble. Except less drinking and much better golf. At no point did I get the sense any of the golfers were playing anything, pars, birdies or money. There seemed to be a lack of concern.
  12. 43 on the back 9 Pars on 11, 13, 15 & 18. Finally fixed my way to inside take away. This resulted in solid contact and a much straighter ball slight. Switching from the 35" Cleveland classic back to my 34" Odyssey white hot has given me a better feel for the greens.
  13. No matter how much I have tried, and I have tried, I cannot grasp Cricket I dont think enough people know and appreciate the talents of Maradona and Simone Biles. Having a kid that plays each of those sports, I have been exposed to both those athletes. If not on GOAT Mount Rushmore, they both should get their own statues in front of it!
  14. You are correct. However at the time a reporter felt it an issue and asked Ruth if he thought he deserved to be making more money than President Hoover, he said, 'Why not? I had a better year". Obviously at the time the President Hoover was well paid ($75,000 per year). The banter with the press and his comebacks made headlines. Just another example of a GOAT. The only person probably more famous during this time was Chaplin.
  15. Ruth was the first superstar of baseball (unless you count Tye Cobb, who was too divisive). in 1927 he made more money then the president, of course as he stated, he had a better year. His baseball career led to appearances in radio and film. Nearly 100 years later Ruth's stats still stand up. Pitching (over 10 years) his opposing batting average was .222. The MLB average is .275 His WAR (wins above replacement, not a stat I really like, but they use it) is 1st in all of baseball history. Career batting average .342 ranks 13th all time Home Runs 714, 3rd all time. it took a great man 1 more season to top that record. Then a cheater came along and beat them both. Runs Batted In 2214, which is 3rd all time. Beat once again by Hank Aaron and then Pujols. If Trout played for Yankees or the Dodgers he would be the biggest sports star on the planet (really the U.S., but planet sounded better). I get the WS ring argument, but both the NBA and NLF have used the lack of championship accomplishment against a player. Marino was great, but no rings Barkley was great, but no rings I understand it is a team effort, but when you are the goat you make everyone around you better.
  16. Well then we need to limit our "All Time All Sports Mount Rushmore" to Modern Day! Sure Ruth did not face all the competition that was out there, but he also did not benefit from a modern ball & bat. Not to mention modern medicine and training, as well as sport fitness knowledge. If we are going down that path Nickolous & Palmer have no chance because they did not play in the modern area, While we are at it Mohamed Ali is out. Tyson had opponents who benefited from modern medicine and workout routines (and likely steroids'). I also think Tyson's brand of boxing would pummel Ali. Not only was Berra lucky enough to be a member of the NY Yankees. He was also an elite catcher for nearly a decade. He put up decent numbers (.285 BA) which today would get him a multi million dollar contract But if we are eliminating players for being on championship teams, we are left with great players who are without championships. Dan Marino & Ted Williams. Both had great stats but no championships
  17. I dont know, in 1927 Babe Ruth hit more homeruns than any team in the American league. "In 1927, Ruth's record-setting season in which he hit 60 home runs, American League teams, excluding the New York Yankees, averaged 50 home runs" Sounds like a GOAT to me? While other players in the NBA skipped college and are running up stats, Jordan just got it done. Final shot of a game, you know he had that shot! He elevated the game. Surprised no one has mentioned Tom Brady. The guy produced and won more than anyone. Of course I would like to bring up that were it not for my NY Giants, Brady would have 2 more championships than he has. Yogi Berra- 10 world series championships. More that any other baseball player ever.
  18. You signed up and paid for golf lessons, not a trainer. I think a few minutes of fitness and how it relates to golf and your swing is reasonable. However it sound like you are not getting to the golf part of your golf lesson. I would tell him, while you appreciate the fitness advice you can address this on your own time. Then provide specific issues with your golf swing you are looking to address. Hopefully this will steer him back towards golf.
  19. We voted in improving our lies along time ago, since the course was severely under kept. We had bare spots in the fairway which might as well be cement. The bunkers were filled with rocks and never maintained. Now that the course has the right super and put millions into drainage and upkeep, we will eventually move away from the need for some of these rules. Nothing wrong with taking gummies, they help with anxiety and other stuff.
  20. agree with most everything you said. except when my opponent hits a bad shot I feel bad. When they duff a bad and waste a great drive, I feel bad. But if they line up a put wrong, I say nothing. After all we are playing for bragging rights and a little bit of money, so I want them to do their best but not as well as I do.
  21. "a bad workman blames his tools "
  22. There is some particular course knowledge which is valuable. Couple holes will always lean right or left, so knowing where to land the ball can be beneficial. The rule was proposed by the course super many years back, for encourage pace of play. The league voted on it and adopted this rule. Since the release of the local rule for OB/lost balls, no one from out league has put the idea up for a vote during a league meeting. Or if they did, there was not a quorum or enough votes to advance.
  23. I know the rules indicate that a player cannot receive advice from someone other than caddie. Rule 10 goes on to provide specific information as to requesting and receiving advice. I play in a local weekly beer league, where we mostly play by the rules. We do allow for lift and clean in the fairway and bunkers. We also don't adhere to the loss of stroke and distance on a lost ball (instead you drop anywhere along the path of entry and take a 1 stroke penalty). Both these changes were strongly suggested by the course super to combat slow play. Anyway, I was playing my match the other day against a 20 year old kid, who is new to the league. His father has been in the league for 20 years and played as part of our group. The entire round the father is basically giving the kid advice. "hit it soft, land it 10 yard short, let the ball roll down". He even provided breaks on putting, and coached him on the speed of putts. Given that we are a laidback league I am hesitant to bring this up as a rule violation. I do not want to be that guy. And I understand as a father wanting your kids to do well. But advice all round on nearly every stroke is just excessive. Anyone have any ideas on how to handle this? Or just ignore it next time we play?
  24. One of our oldest local private clubs is doing the same. They were exclusively private up until a few years ago. Then when people in burbs began putting pools in, the club lost alot of the pool/tennis only crowd. They they lost the wedding reception crowd, because that is a very competitive market. Then they started to lose the social/house membership, because who wants to pay just to hang out in a historic club. Side note, the club was started in 1903 by employees of General Electric, so the club house has a wonderful old vibe to it. Anyway, recently the club is looking to sell 9 of their 27 holes to a developer just to stay afloat. I know in my area most the owners of golf courses are not rolling in it. So they are left to raise prices to cover the cost of operation or take a one time buy out from a developer.
