Are you sure it isn't the prolaunch blue? The blue is actually a fairly hefty shaft (in terms of stiffness) and should keep your ball flight low and right if you don't have the swing speed for it. Especially if it's a stiff, it shouldn't feel weaker than the other stiff taylormade shaft. On the other hand, the pl blue is designed to get the ball higher so it'll be a bit tip softer and you'd be more likely to hook it.

What does your CLOTHING say about you?
jcrew replied to TheGolfingDetective's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
(IMO): I think you're silly. No one is making you wear a perfectly fitted polo under an argyle sweater vest tucked into slim chinos. However, you definitely went for the complete opposite and probably look quite un-presentable and lame. Baggy is never good unless you have tons of junk to cover up. Your choice for tops doesn't sound too promising either. I only wear tees if I'm lazy and am only hitting the range or playing a couple holes after school. Hawaiian shirts are goofy. Attire says the world about you. If I were in the position of hiring someone without actually having spoken to them, you bet I'm going to pick the most presentable and well/appropriately dressed person 10 times out of 10. Right when you see someone, you start making judgements about them based off of how they look, how they're dressed, and how they carry themselves (whether you actively think about it or not). I hate when I see people dressed like trash on a golf course. I think an unspoken rule in golf is to look semi-presentable while you play. I think I'd have a hard time choosing between playing with a sharply dressed 20 handicapper with a bad attitude and an affable scratch player who is wearing a cutoff tee with jean shorts and crappy running shoes. That's how much looks affect me. I'm aware that I'm much more conscious about appearance than most people so that should be taken into account when reading what I wrote. I have pretty standard attire when I golf. Well-fitted polo (sleeves may vary but are AT LEAST halfway up my upper arm)(may or may not be tucked in depending on the individual shirt and how long it is but usually yes), chino shorts or pants depending on the weather but usually from now on is shorts, brown leather belt and my adidas tour360 shoes. If it's a bit nippy or windy, I wear a north face wind breaker; it's perfect for golf... lightweight and thin, but still blocks a lot of wind and is water resistant. -
it was a windy day and this was on a par 5. I chunk my 2nd shot-3 wood and it goes into a small stream. i drop a ways behind the stream close to 205-210. wind is going left to right. I take out my 2-hybrid and hit a perfect high fade exactly how i wanted to and it lands on the green softly. the left to right wind pushed it a little too far right but I still 2 putted for my bogey. I love it when i can hit a shot exactly how i was planning to and strike the ball solidly.

Brigdestone J36 forged Irons.

I'm pretty sure they'll be out on the market before summer if not some limited sets already. did you try all of them? pocket cavity, cavity, and blade? -
can we talk about wedges for a minute? :)
jcrew replied to erikpmort's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Assuming you know exactly what bounce is, it's beneficial on sand wedges, hence why your 56* vokey which is traditionally a sand wedge has such high bounce. It'll keep the club from digging more especially if you open up the face a little. You should still be making divots though, regardless of the bounce. Also, bounce depends a lot on course conditions and the type of shots you want to hit. If you're in situations where you have to hit a high soft shot off hardpan, you're pretty screwed with 14* bounce which is why 60* lob wedges usually have much lower bounce. In general bounce is beneficial in fluffier lies and less bounce is better in tighter lies. -
Either this guy that's in college right now who still drops by my local course occasionally or my teacher. My teacher is a great putter. I believe he played on some mini tours and plays some senior tour events (he's 51). Apparently he knows fuzzy and some other guys like zach johnson but idk. The dude in college hits it a ton. He smokes it past the treeline at my driving range which is well past 250 with crappy range balls. I'm pretty sure he hits it past 300.
-
That is a hell of a range. Something's not right there. I haven't gotten my swing speed tested but my ball speeds were averaging around 143-144 maxing at 146 with slippery shoes and tons of masking tape on the clubface (at dicks on their simulator thing). I suppose that's around 100?
-
To make the records for masters appearances. I think he played great for his age. I mean he's 72 and shot I believe 16 for 2 days which translate into around 80. Seventy-two and shooting 80 at august in its current condition is remarkable imo.

I agree w/ mutadayen. I wouldn't count out the rac z tps. They're up there in terms of spin and they are extremely versatile. I can't compare them to that many other wedges but they are way ahead of vokey sm oil cans and cg 10's in terms of feel in my opinion. The 588 is not as far behind in terms of feel but I still give the nod to the rac tp.
-
You'll probably get the most spin with and cg zip grooves, vokey spin milled, rac z tp, or callaway md grooves. I've heard that the md grooves rip up balls the worst (initially) and I would put my money on them for most spin but really I think you're talking about very small differences in spin between these. I would check your ball and your technique too. Those are probably more important in creating spin.

I'm still dialing in my distances after changing my swing extensively since the past season but the distances I'm playin for now 60* - 80 yards 56* - 95 yards pw (47*) - 120 yards 9 (43*) - 135 yards 8 (39*) - 145 yards 7 (35*) - 155 yards 6 (31*) - 165 yards 5 (27*) - 175 yards 4 (23*) - 185 yards 3 (21*) - 195 yards 2 hybrid (17*) - 210 yards 3 wood (15.5*) - 225-230 yards driver (10.5*) - 245-250+ yards

their chipping/shortgame. It's amazing. they seem chip to make it in as if they were putting. I chip to get it as close as possible and it's a bonus if I get it in. (but maybe I need to change my attitude and chip to make it =0)

holy shit. I've got a lot of respect for that guy who got his clubs strewn across the ground. I don't even want to know how I would have reacted but what an a-hole move by your friend. the world needs more people like the guy that just laughed it off and apologized. I need to emulate that.
-
i think i'm pretty damn clutch with my 56*... which would be anywhere from 0-85.. and expect to be on the green with up to around 150ish
-
I haven't actually tried the mp-600 (newest mp model driver from mizzy) but from what i've read, it is just as long as all the others: g10, burner etc. but a bit less forgiving on mishits. Feel is solid and good. The fast track thing is useful for switching around ball flights a little... seems like mizzy's version of tm's r7 series. One part I can comment on with actual experience is they look fantastic.

called it. lol i think she'll do better this year.

Shaft Discussion - Hot Shafts? More?
jcrew replied to iacas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
i really want to try a set of nippons. they sound a lot better for me than my dg s300's.. -
see if my description matches your swing at all... which i think can cause a flight like that. starting from the top of your swing. you start to come across it a little/around you (as you would for a fade/slice) and pull your arms but then you compensate and try to bring your club back into the slot and manage to hit straight out instead of around you
-
9th hole, par 4. I think roughly 420 from the whites. windy and chilly today (it was fairly warm in the morning but by this time in the afternoon it cooled down a lottttt). striped a drive down the middle around 245-250 with a bit of wind at my back. the shot that made me the most proud was my next shot. I had about 180 (back flag) left and i absolutely pured my 5-iron dead straight and it went by the hole another 3-4 yards but almost a perfect. =/ missed the putt but hitting that 5-iron purer than baby jesus was amazing.

you're really jumping at people. chill. I'm socially liberal but fiscally conservative. I think taxes shouldn't be as high as they are on the top income bracket. I plan to be in that (or an upper) bracket when I grow up and I don't want to have money forced out of me just to be wasted through stupid spending (hello george bush). That being said, I'm anything but selfish. I would LOVE to help out charities a lot, etc. ( I just read a book by John Wood who was an upper-exec at microsoft but he quit to start a great charity called room to read; it was quite inspiring). I like to help people, but I don't want it forced out of me. On the other hand, I hold mostly socially liberal views. I used to be Christian (the same way most people are when they're young because that's what their parents are) but I'm agnostic now after having developed my own thoughts. I'm extremely logical (always always searching for reasons, evidence, support) and rational and I'm one that needs tangible evidence. I don't agree with the bible at all and I think people who take everything in it literally are complete idiots; however, I think there are plenty of good moral lessons etc. that can be taken from it. If it's faith vs. science I'll go with science 100% of the time. I have respect for any and all religions (as long as it's not the freakazoid extremist kind). I'm pro-choice. Honestly this is something that can't be rationally argued either way. I think it comes down to a matter of whether you consider a couple week old thing alive or not (obviously I'm against abortion in the 2nd or 3rd trimesters). Calling pro-choice people baby-killers is immature and stupid. I don't think that cutting off something that "had the potential" to be a baby is significant enough to outweigh the chance of a miscarriage/birth defects, the highly likely chance that this baby will have a not-so-great life (let's face it.. most of those babies that are getting aborted are getting aborted for a reason. wrong time (teenage pregnancy), bad circumstances (can't afford) etc etc.), the times when it could save the mother's life, and the freedom of someone's right to choose. However, I agree with those of you that would say it does take some accountability out of people and I think if at all, people should be taking every precaution not to have to abort: condoms, birth control, day-after, etc. (oh don't get me started on those pharmacists that with-hold the day-after pill. how about they force that person to get pregnant and then cover all the medical expenses and pay for the child's well-being, their going to college, food, clothing, etc etc). To those calling out Obama, he's not an extremist left. You're just name-calling-happy. His healthcare plan is not completely mandated health care like hillary's; all it does is make it more available and cheaper. It would cost 50-65 billion vs. Hillary's 110 billion. (those are estimates from each respective candidate). He's consistent. He was against the war from the start. Face it, there's a reason why he's been beating Hillary in all the independent/conservative categories in pretty much every primary/caucus. He is the candidate of change, this is something that people want after 2 terms of that shithole and so he's capitalizing on it. That doesn't mean his platform says "I'm going to bring about change because my name is Barack Obama." He has all his specific policies and is willing to talk about them too. Talking from a broader prospective and emphasizing the theme of "change" works up more of a response and shines through in his speech-making. -end of that essay. whew

not too overwhelm you with options but try cleveland cg-golds taylormade r7's callaway x-20's and the ping i5's or g10's are definitely a feasible option

Will reshaft bring Cobra driver down?
jcrew replied to Dave's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
yeah try stiff if it's not too much for your swing speed. also a more tip stiff shaft is what you want to look for. -
the simple reason is that you're hitting down into the ball (the bottom of your swing arc comes after the ball) which is where you want to be for pretty much every other club except the driver. try hanging back on the right side a little more and maybe moving the ball a little up as well as most importantly trying to bottom out BEFORE the ball and hitting up into the ball. that should reduce spin dramatically. the coming down into the ball is the reason why you can get back spin with irons etc.

called it with na! lol hope i don't jinx him
-
kevin na has two 4th place finishes so far. i expect/want him to do well looking at chIII's finishes so far.. a win would not be surprising. 3 top 25's (1 top 10) as well as an mdf as long as mickelson doesn't pull another 11, he has a good shot also i'm really pulling for anthony kim
