Looks to me that your posture could be improved and your swing seems a little too far inside.

Long hitters, where do you practice your drives?
gbk56 replied to NBGC's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
My misunderstanding I guess. The nets at the range should be fine for 275-285 or 260-280 whichever is your regular driving distance. Again accuracy would probably be better than playing out of the trees or hitting OB. -

You should probably practice your short game. An 18 HC reguarly hitting over 300 yards indicates you cannot putt and you couldn't hit the side of a barn with your irons. Most par 4's you'd be within 100 yards easily. Should be a easy chip and putt for birdie, but since you are at best a bogie player on your finest day, you must be three putting or not able to hit the green from within 100 yards. Most par 5's you should be within 150 yards which should be at most an easy 7 or 8 iron for you and a putt for eagle. You must be 4 putting for bogie or not able to hit an iron to save your life. IMO practice your putting, irons and short game, because your skills in these area's are very weak. -

Back to the question, I would just continue to hit until something happens. If you do hit the condos, your ball will have probably slowed to a speed where much damage cannot be inflicted. In Korea I hit into nets about 200 meters (about 220 yards) away. The range is only about 20-30 meters wide so I work on hitting the net with accuracy. IMO accuracy is much more important than distance. -
I was the same way and the thing that helped me most was just playing. I improved the most when I played. So if I ever have a choice of playing or going to the driving range I choose playing, even if it is just a par 3. For me, the driving range is good for improving my swing, but if I want to get better at scoring I find it more useful to simply play golf as much as possible.

Anyone using lob wedge for all greenside chipping?
gbk56 replied to littlefish's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I use my 56* for anything inside 90 yards. -
It is fun to see that there are very few articles on Michelle after her performance in CN. I just can't wait for everyone to jump on the bandwagon when she starts to post some good scores and win some tournaments.

How do you stop "over thinking" it?
gbk56 replied to slinkee's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I have many swing thoughts at address, however once I begin my swing I only have two thoughts: 1. Hit the BALL; and 2. Hit the ball STRAIGHT. -

Is she qualified to go to the PGA Q school?
-
Yes, just last year Natlie Gulbis forgot to sign her score card and Paula added up her strokes incorrectly. Both were disqualified.

It just seems that the penalty does not match the crime. Being disqualified for signing a scorecard after you leave the scoring area seems a little harsh. And if someone wanted to cheat, I do not think a cheater will feel bad signing a scorecard that is wrong. And if someone wanted to cheat and turn in your scorecard, they would simply sign your name and turn it in. A signature is not much of a deterrent for a cheater. However, I do agree with the rules committee's decision. That seems to be the way the rule reads so their decision was the right one. IMO the rule should be changed.

Can't hit a 3 wood for the life of me!

I concentrate on watching the club face actually make contact with the the ball. Keeps me from looking up too soon and also allows me to make better contact with the ball. -
I Push. Common causes? Common solutions?
gbk56 replied to mellojoe's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Sounds like you are overcompensating from your original swing which gave you the push to an outside-in swing with an open club face. You should probably try to come a little more inside-out and try to get the clubface square on impact. Lessons sound like a great idea! It is far better to get a pros advice while they are there to actually see your swing. -
Correcting an inside-out swing path
gbk56 replied to slinkee's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Try to bring the club more straight back instead of so inside. -
I Push. Common causes? Common solutions?
gbk56 replied to mellojoe's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Usually when I push the ball it is one of the following: 1) My swing is too inside out Fix: concentrate on bringing club back on a straighter path. 2) I look up too soon Fix: concentrate on watching the club strike the left inside part of the ball 3) I do not get off my right side, either shift weight to the outside of right foot or do not get any weight shift. Fix: concentrate on keeping weight on the instep of right foot and take a few practice swings concentrating on rotating my body to get a good shoulder turn and not shifting hips backwards to the right. -
I think you missed the point of the quote. She said 'I don't think I've got anything to learn from a women's event about how to play on the men's tour' She bascially does not think playing on the LPGA will teach her how to play on the PGA tour. The courses are tougher and longer on the PGA and she beleives that the best practice for competeing in the PGA is to play on the PGA when she has an opportunity. I think she has clearly stated that her goals are to compete with the men. She does not seem to have a whole lot of interest in competeing with women.

If I want to really concentrate on my game, I like playing alone because I am not distracted and get into a rythm. I tend to play fast and when I play with others it is hard for me to get into a good rythm and I am distracted with watching and analyzing other peoples swings, how they play particular shot etc. I enjoy both but my game probably improves more when I play alone.

Look at the World Series of Poker. Who would have thought you could make Texas Holdem into a dramatic event to watch. If ESPN can make poker exciting someone should be able to make golf exciting. I wish I had some answers.

Given that her goals are to compete regularly on the PGA tour and eventaully play in the Masters, are the decisions really that bad?
-
I think the major thing that went wrong is that she was injured last year and tried to play through the injury instead of properly rehabilitating. That lead to a dismal 2007 season. If she would have won an event or two last year and made a cut or two on the PGA tour last year she would have much more support this year. Although her goals and expectations may or may not be unrealisitic, they are what they are. Actually most people who really do accomplish something in life have goals that are not readily accepted by the general public. They think outside of peoples expectations. I think one thing that should be commended is the composure that she keeps on and off the course. This teenage girl has taken lots of criticism on and off the course, but I cannot recall one time that she has blamed anyone but herself. She could have numerous times criticized other players, the LPGA, rules etc. She has always been gracious in her disappiontments and defeat. She has never blammed her handlers, parent, LPGA, PGA, sponsors, rules comittee, conditions etc. She has always taken full responsibilty for her actions. I really cannot think of many other teenagers or even adults who show the composure and graciousness she does. On top of that she values her education. At this point in her life she really does not need to go to college. She has made her millions and is financially set for life. It would be much easier for her career to concentrate on golf, but she decided to go to college. As far as I can see, the only reason she could be attending college is for the education. She cannot compete on the golf team. In this day and age I usually hear of people skipping college or attending college to compete at the collegiate level. In this case we have a pro attending college for education. So although her goals and decisions seem to be unpopular, I think there is a lot that should be commended about Fortress Wie. She puts herself out there on and off the course and handles herself with great dignity. I just wonder how much longer she can deal with this kind of pressure. She does seem to have her head on straight though, so I think she will be okay.

I would pick one club and get good with it. I use my sand wedge. Open stance, ball back, eyes over top of ball, weight on left foot. I concentrate on striking the back left side of the ball and watch the club face make contact with the ball. If I want to hit the ball shorter I choke up on the club If I want to hit the ball further I choke up less. Need more loft? Open up the club face. I actually use my sand wedge for all shots 90 yards in.

I like watching the LPGA, but I think they do a poor job hyping up the game. Their web site is terrible in that it has information, but none of it is very interesting writing. The only time I visit the web site is to get statistical information. Their interviews and articles are so boring that I do not even bother to read them anymore. They have many talented players, but I really do not know much about any of them. It seems that they are looking for the product to sell itself rather than selling the product to the public. Gotta create drama and interest. Look at the NFL. The games take too long and it is not better than other games, but the NFL creates enough hype for a huge following. They sell the game to the public. Who would think to create hype for draft picks and summer practice. I can't wait for the season to start!

I beileve it happens. Natlie Gulbis was DQ for forgetting to sign her scorecard at a tournament in 2006. Natalie Gulbis was disqualified today at the Corona Morelia Championship, after shooting a 77. The LPGA website indicates a DQ, but doesn't give a reason. According to the AP, Natalie forgot to sign her own scorecard. She did sign her partner's card as a witness and apparently a few autographs after the round.

I agree somewhat with you. The way she is going about achieving her goals does not seem to be really working. Last year was a disaster. But she has made enough money so that she and her family should not really have to ever worry about money. She now has the freedom to pretty much try whatever she wants which does not seem to be too bad of a position.
