  1. I've got the exact opposite problems as well. My ball flight seems to balloon and I get no roll at the end of my drives. I posted my question in this thread: http://thesandtrap.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9300 Apparently a shaft with a lower kick point will cause more spin and a higher launch angle and the exact opposite is true for a shaft that has a high kick point. There are a lot of factors that determine launch angle including ball position in your stance, kick point on the shaft and the loft on your driver. The best thing to do is to get on a swing monitor and let a club maker tell you what he thinks.
  2. Longest Drive - 265 yrds Longest Eagle Streak - 1 hole Longest Birdie Streak - 2 holes Most Birdies in a Round - 4 Lowest Number of Putts - ? (haven't started keeping track, but I will this year) Lowest Score - 88 with par of 72 Longest Hole-Out - about 30 yards Number of ACES - 0 Number of Double-Eagles - 0
  3. Is there a place that sells just the heads of name brand clubs? I know how important properly sized equipment is. I bowled seriously all throughout high school and the first part of college and I know how important a properly fitted ball was for that sport. I'm sure a properly fitted set of clubs would help me out on the course. Also, any recommendations on shaft flex?
  4. It's in your "User CP". Look at the buttons running along the top of the page. It's the very first one. There is an option to change your signature once your in there. The logos that we use for manufacturers are smilies. Just click on the "More" under the smilies and it will give you a full list with the code for each.
  5. Thanks, both of the drivers that I tried with the larger heads had stock shafts on them so I have no idea what the kickpoint was on them. I did do some looking around on the TiSi before I got it from him. I kind of mentioned that I wanted it and thought that he might give it to me for Christmas. I know that it won some long drive contests back then. The biggest thing with me on the newer drivers is they feel so light. My Dunlop feels way lighter than the Ping and I definately like the heavier feel. I tested a TaylorMade Burner at Dick's a couple of weeks ago and it's like swinging just the shaft. The head doesn't feel like it weighs anything.
  6. Yeah, 230 for a 5i is really far (even downhill). My 5i yardage is about 180. Congrats on the eagle.
  7. That's what I was thinking about going to when I upgrade. I learned how to play with my dad's old school Wilson persimmon woods. The larger heads always looked weird at address and as soon as I started using one I started having the above problem. Will moving the ball back in my stance a little help keep the ball down as well?
  8. Alright, I've been using a 460cc Dunlop driver for about four months now and I recently received a Ping TiSi driver from my father in law after he upgraded. The TiSi is a 323cc driver. I've always had a problem with larger drivers wanting to balloon on me and they have no roll on the end at all. They tend to just hang up there and fall dead. I even tried a Cleveland 9.5 degree driver that was 460cc and had the same problem. After I switched to the smaller Ping I don't do that anymore. The ball seems to stay lower and I actually gained about 10-15 yards on my drives. Should I stick with smaller headed drivers or am I just hitting the larger heads wrong? In other words, will the smaller headed drivers keep the ball down and keep it from ballooning?
  9. It looks like you have picked out the best courses in Columbia to play. If you have time check out Charwood Country Club. It's another well kept course that is fairly inexpensive to play. http://www.charwoodcc.com/ Have fun. Oh, I wouldn't bother with the course in my signature. I just play there because it is really cheap for students.
  10. Favorite: Flop shot, this shot just came naturally to me. I can usually hit it really close and the ball just stops dead. Least Favorite: Any type of draw. As you can see by my handicap I haven't figured this shot out. My natural ball flight is just a slight movement from left to right. Everytime I try to hit a draw I end up pulling the ball way left.
  11. I'm a car freak so this is an easy question. SUV: Porsche Cayenne Turbo S Daily: C6 Z06 Corvette Classic: '69 Yanko Camaro Supercar: Bugatti Veyron (duh!) Definately have to throw in an EVO VIII, I've always loved DSM's so I would have to have one in the garage.
  12. I'm sure the guy has something in there worth some money. There is no way I wouldn't have at least one exotic sitting down there but that's not everybody's thing.
  13. Same here. I have recently started playing golf seriously and my wife has shown some interest in it. She is only able to drive it about 80-100 yards right now so she gets frustrated when I'm knocking them out there a lot further. I try to tell her that I didn't just pick up a club and hit it that far. It took me a while to figure out how to just make contact with the ball correctly. I have a great time with my wife though. She sometimes comes along to the course when I am playing by myself. She drives the cart and we have a great time. I like it because I get to practice some shots that you just can't do on a driving range and she likes it because she gets to make fun of all my bad shots (and there is a lot of them )
  14. I agree, I like Brian for the most part. Especially in the beginning of the show when him and Anthony got into it. That was priceless. I really didn't like Gerry but he was way better than Anthony. "I hit a great golf shot", "I hit a great golf shot", "I hit a great golf shot", it just got old after a while. If you hit a great golf shot then why did it end up where it did? I've never watched the girls play before (this was my first season of BB). Are they just as enjoyable to watch as the guys?
  15. I noticed that too. I was about to turn the TV off if he said "2i" again. He really is the better player of the two. Josh never had a chance. I think Josh may have hit two fairways the whole time and Brian hit almost every one. I had a really hard time going against Brian at the end. The guy has a solid game and he was really focused. I figured that he would try to mess with Josh but he was professional throughout the whole final.
  16. Sawgrass, no doubt. Play it while you have the chance.
  17. I think you guys are both right. I don't believe that distance will ever hurt your game unless it is the only thing you focus on. If you can carry the ball further than the guys your are playing against you will have an advantage as long as you can keep your accuracy up. Golf is definately a game of accuracy and putting. If you have those two then you can keep your scores low. Gerry has the distance but not the accuracy. I think he has the possibility to do well on tour though.
  18. I played in TN the day after Thanksgiving and I had the same problem. The leaves had just started to fall and I ended up losing 3 or 4 balls in the fairway. Some of the tee boxes were covered with leaves. We had to actually move them out of the way to tee up. This is my first winter playing regularly. It's not cold here at all. We have been in the upper 70's for the past week. Next month it will get down in the 40's and 50's so I will definately go with a softer ball.
  19. I've never seen that before. You shouldn't have taken the original question down though. I don't think that there is such a thing as a stupid question.
  20. I've never played with a caddy and probably never will. I'm on a real tight budget right now (just got married) so the nicer courses that provide caddies are out of the question. I would walk the course when I play but I am always on a time crunch. I work a lot of hours during the week and my weekends are always to short for what I need to get done.
  21. Where are you going to play in Columbia, SC? It's been really nice here for the past week or so. It got up to 76 on Monday, 78 Tuesday and Wednesday and it should be in the upper 70's again today. Great weather for golf. Of course when the weather is like this I tear a muscle in my right shoulder and I can't play for at least two weeks.
  22. That's exactly what I thought. I guess I just feel more comfortable without the glove.
  23. Just wondering exactly what a glove is suppose to help with. I just got home from shooting a round and I struggled the whole front nine. I couldn't stop pulling the shots left. It didn't matter what I did I couldn't keep the club face from closing at impact. I was trying out playing with a glove and as soon as I took it off everything went back to normal. I shot a 48 on the front nine and a 42 on the back. It was like night and day. My drives were straighter and longer without the glove and my iron play went back to the way that it should be (didn't effect my putting either way, it still sucked). Anybody else have this problem? I got to thinking about it and I believe it is caused by the fact that I don't practice with a glove on. I just lose so much feel with a glove that it really throws me off.
  24. Did you guys see that special about him on the golf channel? They showed a tape of his father's swing and it is hilarious. I'm glad to see Gainey got his tour card. I hope he does well.
  25. 265ish. Not for sure what the exact yardage was. I know that it was mid 260s. I hit it the day after Thanksgiving and it was just pure luck. I turned on the ball hard and swung hard and just happened to make good contact. I was playing in a foursome and everyone said "wow" at the same time. Usually when I try to hit the ball hard it goes about 180 yards and way left (after a huge banana slice). Just got lucky on that one. I usually average 230-240.
