  1. Somehow it escaped me trying to find the reference in the Rules. I finally found it using the USGA search engine under Rule 10.1.d. and under the definitions. I knew Trappers would set me right!
  2. Thanks @saevel25 for the find. I did search for this but couldn't find it at USGA Rules. So at best maybe there was an oscillation (legal), but I would maintain even that is inconclusive. Play on!
  3. I did not see the ball move and the video did not show otherwise, therefore it did not move. Now with a better video and closeup could the ball have oscillated? I don't see this addressed in the rules or decisions, but where the video started and ended the ball was in the exact same position. Does anyone remember if the Rules/Decisions ever addressed "oscillation" and if so why the language changed?
  4. 79 with 8 greens. Nailed it!
  5. I am voting playing a favorite. I like to play golf, to grind out a score, and a new course is more about figuring out your lines and the general lay of the land. I recently joined the course I live on at PGA Village (Legacy) in St Lucie, and I love the challenge as it is a difficult course and I learn something new every time I play it. Its hosted some US Open and Senior Open qualifiers as well as other events so its a great test. I just got back from my annual golf trip with high school buddies from Orange County National and I always enjoy the 6 rounds we play in 3 days. The first day we played Crooked Cat twice because the were filming School of Golf on Panther Lake. Crooked Cat hosted the LIV (which you would never know it unlike the PGA Qualifying and Korn Ferry signs they have in the clubhouse). During the LIV event the course looked in rough shape and when we got there it was in questionable condition. The following day we arranged Panther Lake twice. Panther is definitely my favorite layout and was in great shape. The third day was Crooked (I was not looking forward to it) and Panther. We decided that next year to see if we can do Panther and another course or just go somewhere all together different. Knowing my guys, it will be a course we can play a few times on the same trip. We like to be competitive and knowing a course seems to enhance the experience.
  6. 1. Shades of Patrick 57, maybe a distant relation, but this pattern is easy to recognize. If you post to just be argumentative or absurd you will get called out. This was never a democracy, but its pretty fair and patient. 2. My Ian Trollter response to @boogielicious should have received a thumbs up for creativity and entertainment by the OP on his inane topic which he derailed in record time. 3. The non-expiring 99 pointer is the next logical step once double secret probation has been violated! See ya!
  7. I am thinking that the skateboarding community probably doesn't watch LIV or follow Phil. It probably happened when Phil was highlighted at a recent major wearing the logo. Definitely avoidable. I am sure there are industry professionals that have the ability to search in a way more sophisticated than using google.
  8. Not to oversimplify this but PIF has a seat at the table and now has some influence. I am not sure if they will exert much influence, but they do have it because of the purse strings. The question I ask is have they accomplished their goals of becoming part of the world professional golf stage? Absolutely. Do they really want to be involved in the day-to-day? Not so much. As long as everything lines up and advances their goals they should be happy being in the background and in the Board Room.
  9. It's Ian TROLLter! 🤣
  10. Today saw a kick-in from a foot on 14 and then I finally made one at 16 to check that box. Sixteen is par 3 over a swamp at a 175 and has a severely sloping green. I hit 7 iron 15 feet left of the red flag (playing 163) and had a right to left putt across the slope that broke 18 inches into the top of the cup.
  11. Birdie Fest today with 4! Starting off on a bogey on #2 by trying to carry the green after a monster drive on 2, I walked with a penalty and bogey. Bounced back on 3 with birdie, lipped out on 4 (I need that one) and followed up on 7, 14, and 15. Great day!
  12. I saw him last year at his home course in Martin County. I recognized him as he had an unlit cigar. He was like the unofficial starter just chatting groups up that were teeing off. He couldn't have been a nicer guy.
  13. When I saw the post come up, I immediately thought of posting that picture and just laughed when I saw it. Definitely a different era for sure. Hogan and Palmer had it going on back when smoking was the thing.
  14. I would try the hybrid for sure. Golf is about managing misses and if the 5W can bring disaster then its not worth having in the bag. Hybrids are shorter length, are hit more like an iron, and can bridge that gap between irons and woods. So get to ordering!
  15. That actually pretty cool. Great sound in that cathedral!
  16. I don't see him walking away. There is another piece to the puzzle...the PGAT retirement package. Did the LIV guys get wiped clean when they left?
  17. So this tells me that its really important to address, because 4 shots that you know about are critical to you being successful. I always have set my bag up around the courses I play. At one point in the late 90s I had a short par 4 with trees left and right that bent right to left (draw). I went from a 2 iron, 2 hybrid, to a 5 wood and couldn't find that perfect 225 club. I eventually went with the 2 hybrid as it was a great tee club but not so great on the fairway. I recently went back to a 5 wood and love it from the fairway and learned to hit it from the teeing ground (I have a shorty par 4 that I need that 225 shot at my home course). I just tee it like I would for an iron and act like its off the turf. So to help us out, what is your biggest complaint with the 5 wood? And how do you get along with your hybrid? Your buddies are right, because those 4 shots you know you have are costing you more shots. The 3 hybrid at 19* is probably a good starting point, but remember the 5 wood has a longer shaft. For reference, my 18* 2H is very similar in distance to my 5W. The main difference is that the hybrid has a more boring, lower flight.
  18. I seriously doubt this will be the case, however he did have a predictive tweet about this that was on the money (pun intended). But so did a lot of people that knew that money would win. Rory really doesn't need to do anything different. Its all going to blow over once the golf starts and he can be a golfer again. Being the poster boy and now seemingly getting smacked in the face has to sting, but he will recover. He will keep playing imo. This doesn't reflect poorly on him, its on Monahan. Rory will have some awkward moments but he will get through them. What the sad part is that Monahan invoked the 911 families moral argument when this was always about money and power. I think they got caught off guard when LIV had some early success, had some star power, and then challenged them in court. BK contending and winning was an acceleration factor as it just drew more attention to the LIV debate. The settling was inevitable to not bleed money and to not disclose behind the scenes conversations that would come out. I really believe that LIV will morph somewhat as not always being the party 54 hole format. I think some of it will stay, but its got to involve some more mainstream events. Maybe they just fold it up and pack it away, I really don't know where it goes, but in the end the products will all have players that will potentially be paid more like mainstream athletes in other sports. And again, this is just my speculation and it will have zero impact on my ability to hit fairways at my club although it will make for some good barstool banter.
  19. Mid year check: 1. Went for a driver shaft fitting to see if I could improve on my ball speed and raise my ball flight. As I work on the speed sticks, ball speed with 3 wood is increasing more than driver and my driver shaft is pretty stout (heavy). Plus, my window has dropped from 90 feet to 75 feet over the last 18 months. My guy got me into a lighter X shaft (Tour AD HD 5X from the HC 6 model). Dispersion tightened up and swing speed reached 107 and 155 ball speed (105/153.5 average). That's about 3 more than the heavier shaft and a good 10 yards of carry (improved trajectory with a 95 foot window as well by bumping driver up 1*). Let's see how this does on the course. 2. Handicap finally down to the season low of 4.2 as I learn the new course. 3. Last 5 rounds averaged 47% in greens hit which is high 8s. 4. Scrambling is still at 33% (last 5) and sandies at 50% so there is a marginal improvement. I have been working hard on my short game and while scrambling % is about the same, I know my up/downs are better (more one putt saves) but they only count in my stats program when they are for par.
  20. I agree. Nothing really changes for the 99.9% of us that play this game. The USGA and R&A are still the governing bodies, The Master's is still The Master's, and my upcoming golf trip will occur without too much fanfare (even if we are playing Orange County National that happened to host a LIV event).
  21. Norman gets a W for his realization of a world tour that he has been pushing for 30 years. Going forward, he is not the solution (divider not uniter) by any means so now he gets to fade away (pun intended).
  22. Brandel actually did ok. When asked if he lost the fight, he responded by saying it wasn't about him. Popcorn not required. 🍿
  23. They must be LIVid. A lot of them held out and could have taken the cash only to watch the Tour cash in. Too bad its not live on air. It should prove to be entertaining.
  24. And there will be a lot on the air...speculating for the next few golf news cycles on this issue. I wonder how the PGAT player's meeting today will go.
