Actually ,he's very open to advice... he explains why he's doing what he's doing. He explains what he's working on, IMPLYING THAT HE IS NOT PERFECT, as you insist on portraying himself above others. You give advice with no way to back it up.. then you state "who am I to give advice" when you gave him advice no one said you were dumb. They pointed out why that particular piece of information is wrong, like trusting an article in a magazine, which you blindly believed. That article is written by a pro, and you chose to listen to him. But if mike says something different ,suddenly he's thinking he's better than everyone? Lolll. Also, you say you haven't been rude... but you're the ONLY one being rude in this thread. Also, you called mike out for saying "my swing is similar to Eduardo" ... you used that picture to show that he's wrong! So what's wrong with him talking about his swing?. ITS HIS SWING THREAD! Youve Self proclaimed that you've been a golfer only a year, yet you make this sweeping assumption that all pros think they are better than other people. Not only are you wrong using mike and Erik as representative of this statement, it's rude, ignorant, and stereotypical to make such a judgment. "Why not show I'm wrong instead of why you're right" ... you understand, that when 2 people have contradicting beliefs, that showing you're wrong and he's eight is the same thing? I would hope so, and yet this is what comes out... Not sure why you think others can't give mike advice. I wonder, have you read any of the posts before yours? Or considered why he made a swing thread? -_- How do you expect him to explain something to someone, if he can't use facts, pictures, or say anything? Is he supposed to use the force? Still not sure what you're saying about looking at Rory or tiger or any touring pro's swing to compare to mikes... sounds like you're saying "hey, I know you guys are right about the club steepening on the downswing, and that every golfer does it, but I refuse to accept it because mikes a professional teacher"

would like to see a DTL swing, especially considering all your comments on mike's thread about how horrible his positions are, and what you think a good one is like.

What muscles make you drive the ball further?
onephenom replied to redhotchlypeppr's topic in Golf Talk
no, i'm right. 5'9 means you don't have a lot of weight, so strong for you isn't the same as strong for a big fella like me. It's relative to your body. You're telling me that if you have weak hobbly legs and hips you can drive the ball just as far? pahh. no. you have to have hip and leg strength relative to your size to hit it far. -
will try what tomorrow? look up swings by players like rory, tiger, any other professional player to see there swing plane at impact vs address plane? do that now, see if you're right or not.
-
This is funny because if you look at professional swings... mike's swing plane coming into the ball is a lot closer to address plane than most touring professionals.. lollerskates. Look up wdefrancesco on youtube. he shows lots of analyses and draws lots of lines on lots of swing. see where pros are at impact with regard to the address plane.

I think it is because you are probably bottoming the swing out to soon, like an inch after the ball instead of 2-4. This is something i'm working on... yesterday i hit an 8 iron like 170 (there must have been some wind gust above the trees that grabbed it. I hit it so high). If you are hitting the ball square and it goes super high, then make sure you are not stopping your hands to release the club... continue moving your hands/arms forward. the club will release. But make sure you don't stop your hands... if they stop just a little after the ball, then you will hit it solid, but sky it.

ADVICE-"Bump and run" vs. flop shots
onephenom replied to rich e's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
i'm assuming by flop shot you actually mean a high pitch shot... flop shots are very risky and unnecessary mostof the time. pretty much have to be the exact distance for your club for it to work. high pitch shots are great for certain pin positions, i.e. tight pin locations, if you want to take a strong break out of play and go past it, hitting over a bunker or thick rough... the bump and run is the smartest shot for anything that needs to release. the bump and run doesn't have to be only a bump... you can adjust it by moving the ball forward and getting a little more loft for a little less release...you can open the face and sweep at the ball to keep from getting spin, and let it release. at this point, it's more of making shot somewhat between a pitch and a bump and run... a pitch and run. you realy have to understand how to pick a spot on the green to hit to. Then it just becomes a matter of reading the green to see what spot you need to hit depending on how much release you need. don't give up the bump and run, just learn to play both kinds of shots. bump n run has a lot of uses -
How many strokes does severe wind gusts cost you per 18 holes?
onephenom replied to clearwaterms's topic in Golf Talk
i think 2 strokes per side would be for a very good player. Other than that, i think what really matters is the ability to play low 3/4 knockdown shots. -
What muscles make you drive the ball further?
onephenom replied to redhotchlypeppr's topic in Golf Talk
you have to have strong hips and legs to maximize driving into the ball though. -
the leg should be a little flexed... it should be a lot flexed before impact, and at impact it should be driving the hip up. kinda like how the trail arm should be a little bent and straighten just after impact.

your hips and trunk. tricep strength can help, but it certainly isn't the most important. it can add a little bit more club speed. -
I don't know how a lot of golfers try to fix their swing, I try to fix everything before the follow through and see how that effects the follow through. Although now that I think about it more, working on holding lag through the swing certainly is like trying to get to a feeling in the follow thru
-
Looks like the weight isn't getting forward, and you may be starting the downswing with the hands a little too soon. That can also lead to being to open at impact. What do you work on when you go practice? e.g. what swing thoughts are you trying to incorporate
-
Usually, I think, that would be the beginning of the year overswing. Probably not getting the weight forward enough and swinging harder that with other clubs, resulting in the pull hook. Hard to say what it is exactly without seeing it though.

That's how I feel about Mallory blackwelder.
-
Also, don't feel like we're being to critical or that you have to fix everything next time you go to the range. It's not easy to change a lot. I would try practice swing in your house with keeping your arm straight. After a bunch of those, practice keeping your upper body from moving so far firward during the backswing. And don't feel overwhelmed! Work on 1-2 things at a time. Don't overwhelm yourself with swing thoughts.

Working on your follow through won't do anything. Follow through work only changes how pretty your finish looks. You need to work on whatever causes the follow through to be poor. If you're lifting up before impact, that can be a problem, for sure. Need to keep yourself down long enough to hit the ball properly, but it doesn't matter if you look up after impact during the follow through Lots of tips here on slicing, but that main thing you need to do is lead with the lower body and follow with the shoulders arms and hands. I'm not the guy to explain all that though.. there are the 5 swing keys, and there are lots of threads explaining those. Also, posting a swing in the myswing thread will help you out a lot

I enjoy reading the updates, look forward to seeing an updated swing video soon.

so i stabbed myself in the thumb...
onephenom replied to tuffluck's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I think it's to easy to grip it too lightly off advice like that. Lightly but firmly is something I've read that jack nicklaus does... hold it firmly so that it can't slip around, but loosely so that you aren't tensed up -
I wouldn't put your head up like that. Part of good posture is keeping your eyes straight at the ball. http://thesandtrap.com/t/56069/good-golf-posture Also, it looks like your leg action is a little off. Your right leg comes up too soon, IMO. In my swing, I let the club pull my leg up as it comes through. I used to pull my trailing leg up trying to go into impact, which leads to inconsistency. It should feel like your weight rolls your feet over towards the target.

Thanks. Those are some good links, I've read thru them before. I know where the weight should be, just looked off to me. Gonna go back through those threads. Easy to forget a few things.
