I tried the anser model at the Golftown store and was really impressed by it. I just bought a scotty studio series this year which I like better but I don't think there is a better value for putters than the Karsten series. It had a great feel and has some technology behind it that I found quite impressive but when you see the sticker price its really amazing. Probably in the top 3 of putters that I tried regardless of price so if you like the style I'd definitely recommend it.

I really wanted to like the Adidas 360's as I loved the look and tech about them but after trying out a pair at home doing some putting for a week or so I could never get them to feel good. The 360 wrap killed the outside of my foot and I got a lot of heel slippage despite a good length. I see lots of pros and people who wear them and seem to love them but they didn't work for me. When I exchanged them though I tried on my first pair of Footjoys (mostly because all the older styles looked old and boring to me), the new Dryjoys Tech. They felt waaaay better right off the bat and when I found out about the MyJoys option I was able to custom make my own setup. I got them last week and have worn them a few times around the house and couldn't be happier. If you're walking I think you'd really enjoy them so give them a try and if you don't like the colours then take a look at the MyJoy site its really cool. Also I have an older pair of Nike SP-6 Border EU from last year and I really enjoyed those and I walk all the time.

3wood/Fairway Woods shaft? Grap OR Steel?
Cahal replied to mikelaw's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I feel along the same lines in a fairway wood as far as sacrificing some distance for accuracy but when I got my new fairway wood last year I went graphite because i've always had a bit of trouble getting the ball in the air enough off the turf with a steel shaft and the graphite has definitely helped that along with the increased swing speed. I think if you get a solid graphite shaft in the wood you won't lose as much accuracy as maybe years past. -
Ya i've read Pelz's short game bible and his 4 wedge system. It makes a lot of sense to me and his scoring data makes a pretty good argument but like some of the other guys mentioned I think the 64 degree wedge is a bit of overkill. I carry 4 wedges by dropping my 3 wood which i didn't use much and adding a gap wedge instead of a 64. I'd definitely recommend some of pelz's work and system but find your own combination of wedges that fit your game. The 60 degree wedge should cover anything you would use the 64 one for.

I'm playing the I5's right now and they are a nice combination of forgiveness and playablility.

My understanding is the CGB max line is meant for the super game improvement category so you wouldn't find any tour pros in that category anyway. They have the best skill level in the world so are gonna gravitate towards stuff like the superquad tp and burner tp as well as some of the older versions like the r7 425 as these are all more of a players club.

What make of glove do you wear...
Cahal replied to PutterHead's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have been using Nike for the past couple of years. The Footjoys never seem to fit my hand, I like a really tight snug fit and even the small Footjoys seems big for me. Plus I really enjoy the Tech Extreme and Dri Fit Tour gloves from Nike for the great leather feel plus the tech meshes as my hands tend to sweat. -
I was hesitant at first when I saw the cameron's and didn't think they would be worth the money. However after using a 2 ball for a few years I really noticed my distance control and feel were starting to suffer so spent most of last year looking and trying out a TON of different putters. What I kept seeing was that a lot of pros continue to use Camerons or styles that are quite similar. That being said what's good for the best in the world isn't always the best for the rest of us. While trying all the different models though I kept coming back to the feel and the feedback of the camerons (studio style newport was my fav). I really feel like it helps you put by making you focus more yet still has a ton technology in it. Its made me want to practice more and the combination of it all has been better putting for sure. Like some of the other people have said, you can get a pretty good deal on Ebay or some used sites but after it all I definitely say its been worth it and there is definitely some worth behind the cost.

Fairway Woods--Callaway X vs TaylorMade Burner
Cahal replied to r7 425's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I like the versatility of the callaway fairway woods but don't find the look as confidence inspiring as others. For some reason I've never hit the Taylormade stuff as well so I voted for Callaway. -
give the taylormade tp red a shot, i found it to play a bit softer than the tp black and i think its supposed to spin more if that's what you're after. I've loved both of them for the distance off the tee and find them to play straighter and more durable that the pro v's. Also seeing as you're in alberta take a run down to a Golftown store. With the new TP lines out I picked up a few packs of the old line for quite a bit cheaper.

I used a 2-ball for a few years but recently switched back to blade with a Scotty Newport 2. I was struggling with the feel and weight on putts which i've found is the downside to the mallets, however I have always liked the alignment features they offer. But i've found out for me its more important to get the weight right on the putts and that was the reason I went with a blade.

i've tried both and prefer the Taylormade TP balls to both, check them out next time you're buying they're worth a look. check out the review on this site it gives a great comparison with the pro v's

Getting a putter refinished by Titleist?
Cahal replied to dave39's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Just check on the scotty website and start your repair/customization. I sent my brand new studio style a while back to get customized and a few add ons and it lets you pick all the different options you want to get done and it'll show you what the price will come out to. They'll charge you for shipping it back to you and you're responsible for getting it to them of course but I couldn't have been happier with mine and when you get it back you'll definitely have something one of a kind. -
Just got my Scotty Cameron Studio Style Newport 2 back from the Custom shop. I got the putter off of ebay and saved easily over $150.00 because they are still 370 in Canada. Then I sent it off to the custom shop to get a lime green midsize grip (love the putter but that original grip wasn't so hot) adjusted 2 degress flat, got my name stamped and got them to switch up the circus colours for a kickin white and gold paintfill and got a new yellow headcover. I can honestly say it was soooo worth the extra 120 bucks to get it all customized as it is now truly MY putter and one of a kind.

Which ball do you use? or prefer?
Cahal replied to Robiola the Monster's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Have been playing the TP red's for most of last year but picked up a couple of packs of the TP Blacks, feel with the putter is the same but haven't yet played them on the course yet but from most reviews (including this site) they seem to launch higher and carry longer which should help my lower trajectory. -
How Many Sets of Irons Do You Have? What Are They?
Cahal replied to Mr.Mongo's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I've got 2 sets of irons: First set was the original Taylormade RAC's and Now i'm using some PING I5's. -
I was talking to a guy at GolfTown and he said they saw some new stuff from the Callaway rep they got to try out and the stuff was due out in February but I know some other manufacturers will have stuff out more for the spring

Best looking irons? Have your say.
Cahal replied to Hacksaw's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Blades look nice but ever since I've been a kid i've loved the tumbled finish of the ping irons, not the best looking at the cavity but love them when looking down at it. -
Going from blade to mallet putter
Cahal replied to hypergolf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Ya I have to agree with c_mack9, I have been using a 2ball for a few years now and definitely liked the alignment of it but pretty much all this past year even playing more often really felt like I couldn't get the feel or weight of my putts right. I went back to a really old more blade like putter and felt my weight got better but still wasn't happy so hopefully looking to score a newport 2 or redwood answer for next season. I still think you see a ton of pros and really good putters who like the anser style head on tour but can't hate on the alignment benefits of the new mallets either. -
I'm using I5's right now and hit some balls with the I10's. They seemed to feel like they were a little heavier in the head, maybe swingweight is different? as they are supposed to have the new "ascending weight system". They seemed a little smaller in the head size and more able to work the ball as you are more aware of the head of the club but found them to be pretty much the same as far as forgiveness and distance compared to the I5's I have right now.

PING Enthusiasts - Best Iron PING Ever Made?
Cahal replied to thumper07's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I really enjoy the I5's i'm playing right now, have allowed me to really improve my ball striking this year but I also remember playing a set of eye2's my uncle had a number of years ago when I was still a junior golfer and remember them feeling incredible. As others have said they started a revolution in irons and have to be at least the most memorable iron Ping has ever made. -

I've been playing the TP reds this year. I got a couple packs really cheap and the end of the year from golftown because apparently they have a new model coming up next year (6 piece ball ?). It seems to go almost as far as the Pro V1s I've played but I don't seem to spin it quite as much which keeps it straighter for me. Before that though I really liked the NXT tours but haven't played the new one. Anyone find much of a difference between the new NXTs? -
I'm using a Cobra 414 Comp from a few years ago. I know when I got it that it was one of the first to use a composit crown and its been pretty good for me as I've progressed in the game. My good drives have been going way deeper than I ever had before but I have started to lose my consistency with it and recently did a launch monitor session and need to step up to a stiff shaft apparently. I'm liking the Superquad and the 907D2. Anyone found either of these to be more consistent for them?
-
I think that the Superquad TP goes to a robomax shaft and not reax. This is supposed to be a huge jump and like some other people said a more open clubface. Also I did a launch monitor session with my teacher the other day and he told me about lower lofts being more open as well. He said whenever the loft on the driver goes up the face will be more closed. As for having the ball balloon too much on you I was having the same issue and on the launch monitor I had to go to a stiff shaft versus the regular I had been using to get the spin down off the driver.

This is a move i've been trying to work on as well with my teacher this year. I think what the first guy said was pretty accurate, you defiitely want to have that "connected" feeling of the elbow near the hip to allow you to attack the ball from the inside which maintains your leverage with the club but make sure to have the body rotate as well or you will really have to flip the hands at the end to square up the club. What i've been working on is getting the elbow in the slot early but then letting my arms release with the body rotation to get more smoothly back to impact while still coming from slightly inside. It isn't easy though after having fought an slight over the top move for a number of years.
