These are a hybrid players club. The short irons are musclebacks, the long irons are cavity backs...They are fantasic clubs, especially with the T4 shafts. I've been playing them for 15 years and haven't considered replacement.

quick fix: (note Im a lefty) Move your back foot backwards 2-6 inches (play with it to see the difference) It naturally closes off your stance and closes the clubhead more at impact.... I do this with my driver and long irons when i'm seeing some fade im not looking for... Also the staples of taking the club back cleanly, getting your hips through the impact, having good hand pronation at impact...

In need of New Golf Shoes!
Booya replied to GoldenBearCub's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Agreed, I bought the 2011 model off ebay for 1/2 the price of the '12's, and have to say they are the best golf shoe i've ever worn... I want to get a similar pair of sneakers they are so comfortable... Friends swear by the adidas 360's/ATV's and i've tried them on and they seem comfy too, i'd go one of those two directions... -
It comes down to the design talent of the team putting together the course... I know through some personal experience that they have different philopsophies and approach, on design, bunkering, drainage... For example Rees Jones likes to make use of the surroundings and contour the fairways in a concave fashion to promote natural drainage. Whereas Jack Nicklaus likes convex fairways with more drainage basins. The talent is really dialing in risk/reward on the course, making shorter landing areas safer and tightening up further out. Keeping the rough reasonable to respect pace of play and skill level. Eliminating blind tee shots and blind landing areas...Having bunkers to protect OB and also force those risk/reward scenarios... Undulation to make even short holes have more variability of shotmaking because of the lies... Seems using alot of false fronts in very popular with pretty much everyone... The real talent in my opinion is making a challenging course that still plays fairly fast, because you want it to work well for players of varying skill levels, you don't want a course that get constipated by a few senior groups....

Club cleaning question
Booya replied to bodeman1329's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
i wouldn't overthink it, water, brush (old toothbrush works great), towel, dish soap if you feel like it.... Make sure you dry them well.... -
Find a nice used set of Ben Hogan Apex Edge Pro irons... can be had for ~$300-350, forged, combination of a players iron for the short irons, has a bit of cavity back on the longer irons... easy to hit, I have a 4 hybrid i bought, and had it out on the range, and realized i had better ball flight and more consistency playing the 4i than the hybrid... I was aiming at a large oak tree about 190 yards out, was hitting nice soft/'balloony' trajectories with the hybrid that would bounce a couple times and settle up. I was clanging tree with the 4i... I then spent some time cursing why i don't take a 3-4i off the tee more often and take my 200yds down the pipe all day long... I need to work more on teeing off to the proper landing area and distances rather than blasting away with more variance and having half wedges and whatnot... at the end of the day its the swing, not the club, keep that in mind.

Scotty Cameron Collector Troubles... Pls help
Booya replied to packer445's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Quite a brag post... If you were serious about keeping a pristine collection you wouldn't game them would you? Did Cameron Frye's dad game his ferrari? No, he spent his days wiping it with a diaper. FWIW I game a pro platinum del mar 3 i unsuspectingly bought used about 10 years ago... love it... think i am going to slap a mid sized winn grip on it... -

Any suggestions with balls?
Booya replied to ChrisFav's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
noodles are better than top flites, another decent cheap ball is the srixon soft feels. I have been playing b330 rx's and really like them. Going to try nxt tour s as well at some point. -
Any suggestions with balls?
Booya replied to ChrisFav's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
there are a bunch, i always liked Noodles as a step up from the traditional 'rock' balls like top flites and comperable junk.. Bridgestone e5-7 depending on your swing I've heard are pretty good as well... I'd spend you money on range time and practice before spending big dough on balls, get your ball striking honed and you will see alot more improvement than any dimple design could give you. -
Iphone GPS apps: Golfshot vs Golflogix
Booya replied to Jonnyy8699's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Figure out which apps have the courses you want to use... I DL'ed Airvue golf on my Iphone 4 for $10, took it out last weekend and it was ok, felt the distances were consistently 5-7 yards shorter than the distance stones and course markers were suggesting though... -
played on cape cod last saturday, mid to high 40's, was a bit chilly, but the course was in great shape and besides letting a fast 2-some play through we didn't see another person on the course all day... a good way to start the season...

Just bought a clicgear 3.0 after having a few good experiences renting a decent bag boy push cart... The difference in experience between a junky pull/push cart and something stable, and easy to dink around was much bigger than i anticipated.. I have courses the require carts, but i'm looking forward to more push cart rounds this summer. Carrying a 30# sack of clubs around is for the birds... No thank you.

NXT tour or Bridgeston B330 RX or e6?
Booya replied to Birdman2's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I passed on that deal too lol and went with the $30 case of B330-rx. I wasn't sure if the $6 noodles in the recycled brown packaging were the same as the original noodle. They had a soft feel and a distance. I hate playing with rocks, but $6 a dozen is a pretty decent deal. Be curious what you think of them -
Should Rule 4.4 (Maximum of 14 clubs) be altered?

Should Rule 4.4 (Maximum of 14 clubs) be altered?
Booya replied to Patrick57's topic in Rules of Golf
Probably more due to keeping costs and price points low, a child's swing speed vs a senior or a woman may very well be comparable or close enough to challenge your point. -

I think OP was being facetious to prove a point. -

Its a good suggestion... Most junior sets of clubs (at least the cheapos I had as a kid) were only the odd irons (3,5,7,9,W) 1w,3w, putter... So thats 8 clubs and yes it did make club selection alot easier as compared to someone with 14 who doesn't have a consistent game. I played a few holes for fun with my brother and nephew who got his first action on a golf course, we each got to pick one club and a putter... Was interesting. No need in this situation to jump down OPs throat, he made a reasonable and helpful suggestion. Instead of getting caught up in gimmicks and analysis paralysis (which seems the norm in golf instruction) just getting comfortable using a club with finesse in different situations gives you confidence... One of my biggest leaps in golf was working on a driving range, chipping out the tree balls that couldn't get plucked by the picker... Have a short iron or wedge and just pick spots all over the range to hit from junk lies of all sorts... that type of repetition really improves short game striking... Same idea, instead of thinking technology or some golf instructional pamphlet is going to save you, put in the time and just hit balls over and over again. -
Are most amateur golfers being mislead on how to swing?

NXT tour or Bridgeston B330 RX or e6?
Booya replied to Birdman2's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I'll second the noodle recommendation, for cheap balls they are one of the softest... thats always been my highest criterion of balls is that they are soft. I miss the old balata ball days even though they'd only last several holes before they get a gash... Bang for the buck I think the noodle is the best... I did just grab a case of B330-Rx's so i'll get to test them out... They are more expensive than noodles, in the above average category but below a tour type ball...Be interesting to see how their value stacks up for me. -
Master Scotty Cameron Putters: Worth It or Not? Thread
Booya replied to JEWMAH9701's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I bought my Del Mar 3 Pro Platinum almost by mistake, my old sticks got stolen and I was outfitting a new bag, the Scotty was a used but absolutely mint for $75. I bought it in 2003. At the time I didn't know Scotty Cameron was any special brand, just thought I bought a Titleist putter with really good feel. After coming to this forum I looked it up and saw it was only made one year (1999) and that these things are relatively rare and expensive. It was my antique roadshow moment of the day. Just got it regripped for the first time, lol, and was posting in another thread how nice the golf pride pistol grips are... -
I just regripped my Scotty Cameron Del Mar 3 Pro platinum with a golf pride tour tradition... They also make a slightly larger tour classic I believe its called... I've just been rolling putts with it all week on my callaway putting mat (good mat, giant ripoff in price) and I've been really happy with the feel... I was looking for a smaller pistol grip with a flat front like the original scotty grip.. This grip is much softer than the original. I'm surprised that this grip is a specialty order, golf pride is pretty standard as the top or a top grip manufacturer. This is their basic pistol putter grip... Also thinking about getting a couple inches cut off my putter. I like you choke down a bit so I can get my head on top of the ball. I grip it mid grip, if im wearing a loose sweater sometimes the butt end with catch. Good luck finding a grip.
