How far over your handicap do you typically play?!?
JaY_B replied to luckyluke699's topic in Golf Talk
Well no that's not true, if you play off five and shoot five over every time you play then your not coming down, you won't go up either but you won't come down. It can depend on the standard scratch, Ive shot five over and got cut before and five over and gone up (playing off 5 in both instances.) -
Anything around 215 - 230 over a hazard is a bit of a no go for me, I can't hit my 2 iron high enough to stop it and I find taking that much off a 3 wood quite hard. I might switch back to a hybrid in the summer when the weathers not as bad.

Greens in Regulation
-
Well as I said I have been doing it for about a year now and it feels pretty comfortable and I have been shooting lower scores, so great in theory but a closer look at my stats shows that the amount of greens I hit a round has gone down, is a year enough time to expect to see results?

Tiger...not the first golfer with problems...give it a break..
JaY_B replied to juanrjackson's topic in Tour Talk
I think this is to simplistic, people will react in different ways to death and it will emotionally effect them at different levels. Having said that, I'm not providing it as an excuse but as a reason for his behaviour. What he's done cannot be excused. -
Definitive Club Face Angle & Swing Path on Ball Flight Thread
JaY_B replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I thought it was all about extremes, if the clubface is square to the target line and the clubhead is moving from inside to out then the ball will start right and draw back but if the clubface was fairly closed to the target with the same swing path then the ball would start left regardless? -

But Tiger's Dad died, it was quite apparant how much this affected him, I know how much losing a parent can change you and trust me you begin to do a lot of things out of character, I hope it all coming out will be the huge wake up call that he needed. The old Tiger could be back because of this. -
I am currently working with a guy that teaches Jimmy Ballard stuff, now I have been doing it for just under a year now and I'm beginning to have a few doubts as to whether its right for me and whether there is any weight behind what they teach, do any of you have knowledge or experience of what he teaches and what are your opinions of it?

senorchipotle, I think you might be missing the point, yes he has genetics, yes he is under a lot of stress, yes he most likely has women lining up for him but at the end of the day he had choice, you can overcome your instincts by choosing not to do something, he chose to cheat on his wife and has to live with that, there's a lot of reasons why but at the end of the day there's no excuse.

'Spine Angle' Throughout the Backswing
JaY_B replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I would imagine that to the naked eye you want the spine angle to stay constant throughout the swing but in terms of the specific degrees of the angle of the spine when compared to the hip it would be impossible to maintain that angle because of the rotation of the hips during the swing. -
6 over front 9, 1 under back 9 recently, other than that ive had 10 over front level par back

No where near this, started working with a new instructer after spending a winter messing around, playing no golf competitions or practising effectively, joined a new club and went straight up to 7, so have done fairly well to bring it back down to 5. On the team, played in the first match and lost 5&4, I played scramble golf and the guy shot 3 under Useless goal, hitting it straight is far more important than distance once your hitting it 270 + First year complete and on course for a 2:1

If its freezing cold, chucking it down with rain, water in the hole and a practise round theres no way im putting that ball in the hole from a foot out :-p

It's clear to see I was asking a question.. a serious one, grow up.

As Mcilroy said in a magazine I read recently, the US Tour plays on the same courses every week with the same speed greens where as the European tour provides a wide range of courses and a huge amount of different speed greens, I think it provides a better opportunity to improve yourself as a player, what every young amateur needs.

Atleast four of the current worlds top ten are using cavity backs; Westwood, Stenson, Furyk and harrington, I know casey has played with the Nike cavitys instead of blades in a few tournaments, thats the worlds best ten players, and some use cavity backs.

At that age too much golf = losing interest, in my opinion get her playing a variety of sports, its proven now that kids should not specialise in sports at a young age, but should take part in different sports to not only increase enjoyment but to further develop the child's all round coordination etc.... so play 9 holes, but try tennis, football, running etc etc so that she does not get bored of golf.

Convinced my problem is mental: Need help!!!!
JaY_B replied to brianc's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Just keep your practise as close to the real thing as you can, play holes on the range hitting driver then 7 iron, or laying up on imaginary par 5's etc and make sure you follow the same routine on every shot, after 4, 5, 6 practise sessions this will start to pay off, same pre shot routine in practise, same pre shot routine on the course and you have a fighting chance. -
Pressure from pushy parents or he desire to succeed? I wouldnt worry they always get found out in the end.

I am currently working with a guy in England called Andrew Lancaster who teaches Jimmy Ballards swing ideals. My two swing thoughts at the moment are to rotate the hips as much as possible on the backswing and then feel like im sliding on to my left big toe on the down swing, he's the only guy that could get me hitting draws again.
