How trimming the tip affects flex
albatroz replied to melraid's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Dunno what will happen . Guess it would fine tune your shaft to fit your swing spec. have had this done befor to one of my sets ... have not felt any change in my short irons ... mid irons still held the distance ... long irons felt better ... Hope this gives light to the equation . -
At leaST i got my reply in befor 2008 ...... Cheers to you all ...

By the looks of the fairway you played on ... seems like it got soaked with 3 feet of water the night befor . With winter rules implemented id say you did pretty good on your round . Wonder what the results would be if you played here in So CA .....

For a high handicap player a cast iron set may be the right set to start with . A lot of the newer models are built with forgivenes in mind . For the forged set of which can be blades or cavity backs these are for those who may want to work the ball and therefore has the feel factor . I cant say much as to which is better . Give me any decent iron and i can hit it just as well as any scratch player .

Wedge setup. Need your opinions!
albatroz replied to andre112's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Depending on the lie and distance from the green a golfer has a couple of options . For bunkers (shallow) with distances from 50 - 35 yards from the pin a 50-52 degree wedge would seem the apropriate club . For distances 30-25 yards from the pin a 54-56 deg wedge can be useful . from 20-5 yards to the pin 58 to 64 can be a good option . Depending on how well you can handle wedges you can use a 52 degrees a number of different ways with proper opening and closing of the club face . I first started just using a pitching wedge for all my bunker needs . Never had a problem controlling the flight of my golf ball . When i graduated from the PW i first tried out the Gap 52* and then learned i did not have to make too much face adjustments and could hit the ball at the proper angle of the club . Then i brought in a 56* and then a 60* . Now i have a 64* added to make a full house . -
3 wood replaces the driver in hard to hit fairways . It is very common knowldege that this is a superior club as compared to long irons and hybrids . With distance in mind the 3 wood outdistance all other clubs except the driver . Now if you are not comfortable hitting it then you must be hitting the wrong club . Try some out at the proshop and see what fits your game .

albatroz replied to Basikstylz's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting

need help selecting new irons
albatroz replied to ohfreeride's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
First of all what handicap do you belong in . If you are in the high end then Blades and tour irons are out of the picture . Mid handi ... There are a lot to choose from . best you go to a golfing warehouse and have you self fitted . Low handi ... CB and MB may be to your liking . On this level you dont need forgiveness . What you would want is one that helps you do draws or fades at a moments notice . Check the marketplace out . there are a couple of sets that may interest you. -
If you have great feel for your old wedge you can hold on to it . There are pro shops that can regroove the face and reangle the lie to match your specs . Maybe a New soft grip can be placed to give you more feel . Its your call . There are a lot of great wedges from Major manufacturers but you will have to take time out to try them and see which fits your style . Happy Hunting

Different swings for different clubs?
albatroz replied to Chilidipper's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Grip , distance of club from your body , stance , ball placement .... choose what to correct in the following and that may have a cure to your hook . -
Perhaps you are gripping the club too tight . Try having a relax three finger grip with your left hand . Gripping too tight creats tension on all your body parts needed for that perfect swing . Relax and just let your arms carry the club face to the ball .

It isnt too bad . This is the time of year you can look forward to doing other things . Ice fishing at the lake , Bob sleding .... renting golfing movies and having some indoor fun with your golfing buddies over a keg of ale ... Cheers my good man ... all is not lost .

Driver: could you play without one?
albatroz replied to RichF's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
If you leave the driver out of the equation you can take care of half your fairway problems . I have always advised would be golfers to be good with their long to mid irons prior to taking a dive with woods and the most inconsistent club next to the putter DRIVER . The plan is to put the ball in a playable lie in the fairway . Thing is 80 percent of golfers in this planet find that a herculean task to perform . So you want lower scores ... keep the driver in the bag for Display and use fairway woods and long irons more often . -
Question on Titleist 690 MB Irons
albatroz replied to albatroz's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I plan changing the shafts to Project X 7.0 or 7.5 . Have tried out a set in Project 6.0 . They play a little whippy for me . My shots tend to have a slight fade so having tried the 7.0 i think this will correct what ever fade there is . -
Question on Titleist 690 MB Irons
albatroz replied to albatroz's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thanks for the info . Any way you can tell one from the other if they are put side by side ? Are all markings the same ... The 690 mb i got have S400 shafts . I understand the standard were the S300 . -
# 3 option . I use either a 64 or 70 wedge with full swing . Letting the bounce take care of scooping the ball .

Will be there this Sunday with some Member golfing buddies who were ever so Gracious to have the Heart to give me a last minute notice . Dont know what to expect ... Tiger as of this time is leading and for sure there are tons of surprises awaiting the viewing public . Have played the course a couple of times but they say that it is totally different when there is a Tournament of this magnitude being played . Cheers to you with Snow .

Hi there , I am looking for enlightenment on the Titleist 690 MB Irons . When were they introduced into the Golfing Market . What are the Physical Difference between the 690MB and 690.MB . Were these released the same time as the 660'S ? Heard that Big Easy once played with these on 2005 . I know there are a lot of Titleist Guru's here and any shared thought on the matter would be appreciated .

Loves those borrowed sandals . Must be the reason why you swing great .
-
The 695 mb are not your everyday golf set you hit and get instant good feedback . These were manufactured with Low Handicap players in mind . On this level forginess is not a factor . What these irons cry for are accuracy and swing speed to launch your golf ball . Have played a set of these for a couple of rounds and liked the way i was able to do draws and fades at will . They might not be the best blades out there but they sure make a golfer play better .

I Carry Walter Hagens Hybrid in by bag . Love the feel of these clubs . They are what they were made for RESCUE .

out at the range this mornin
albatroz replied to knuckleballer71's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
There is no substitute for practice in the range . You have all the time to groove your swing in accorcance to the shot you want to hit . Confidence is born when you have hit a shot numerous times that it becomes second in nature when you play the course . -
Let Golf be a game of advancement in line with improving the players chances . If they make the game very hard to play (stricktly enforcing the ancient rules and clubs to be used) then there will be a dwindle in the number of players as they would rather play some other sport .

Tiger has his priorities map out . I doubt if he will participate in all 11 envents leading to the final the Dubai event .. His appearance money alone is much more than the First prize pot . Keeping diplomacy with Dubai who happens to be his client for Golf Course develop[ment is part of his priority.
