Nice! I'm looking for redemption from last year. Kinda screwed the pooch and ended up 74th percentile overall (all Yahoo Fantasy Golf). My first year (08) I got 96th percentile and then improved it even more to 99th percentile in 09. Now I'm trying to figure out if the first two years were just a fluke! Can't wait to get it going again. Of all the fantasy sports I do (baseball - yawn, football - ok, college pick'ems etc.) golf is the one I like the best. Good balance of interaction. It doesn't take TOO much work every week - really only 3 or 4 times a week do you need to check (unlike baseball) but enough happens to keep your interest (unlike football - which once a week is about all it needs).

The fantasy golf page where you make you picks updates the scores during the rounds. It can sometimes be delayed though - haven't figured out why. I think it just pulls them from pgatour.com but who knows. Most of the time its fine but some of the time it hours behind.

Sean Foley on 12 Nights at the Academy
ryanf replied to granitegolf's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Just watched the Foley episode. Couple of thoughts: 1. He does look a little nerdy, bat thats okay. He's an instructor, not the model of cool. 2. I really liked WHAT he said, but not always HOW he said it. He did come across as douchey sometimes. 3. I think the blend of technical knowledge and its application to actually playing better is hard. He seems to be doing fairly well with it and explained things in a generally good way (lose the big words and the Plato quotes though). I think this might be partially the appeal to Tiger. It's been mentioned by other PGA Tour pro's and instructors that Tiger is very technical and likes to understand the detailed mechanics of the swing - even down to the putting stroke. Foley seems to play to that type of person. -
Each team (person) picks 8 players per week and "start" 4 per round. The players are divided into three groups - Group A, B, & C. You pick two players from group A, four players from group B, and two players from group C before the start of the tournament (I believe the deadline is 5 minutes before the first tee time). You select four players to "start" for each round - one from group A, two from group B, and one from group C. After each round every player is given a score from 20 to 0 points. The player (and ties) in each round with the lowest ROUND score (not total score) is given 20 points, the next lowest score is given 18 points, the next 16 points....and so on until everybody below a certain score gets 0 points. Between each round you change your "starters" if you choose. This is very helpful if somebody is having a a bad week or misses the cut, etc. At the end of the tournament the winner gets 20 bonus points, the 2nd place finisher(s) get 10 bonus points and third place gets 5 bonus points. You do not need to have that player active for THAT round to get bonus points - just to have had them start on round during that tournament. Points form all players are tallied at the end of the week and somebody wins the week. You cumulative score adds up over the season to determine your segment (there are three segments) and overall winners. Limitations: Any person can pick any player to play. EVERYBODY can play Tiger Woods if they want on the SAME week. However, you are limited to 10 weeks of "starts". You can only start each player 10 weeks. If you pick a player for a tournament and never "start" them for a round then it is NOT counted as a start. However, if they started at least one round on your lineup that week then it counts against the total of 10. Even if they in for all 4 rounds of one tournament it is only counted as one against your total of 10. Use them wisely. That pretty much covers it all.

Just joined. I've played a couple of times with another group. Should be fun with a bigger group like this!

I hit them for a while up against a Mizuno and CG15 at the PGA Tour Superstore. I didn't like the feel at all. My plan for sharp U grooves for years to come has been foiled. Very disappointed.

1. Putt consistently better 2. Become better at/more consistent with using the "big muscles" to swing and covering the ball more 4. Hopefully 1 & 2 will allow me to break 80 for the first time 5. Beat, or at least play well, against my uncles this summer. My uncles and grandfather meet every year for a couple of rounds as sort of tournament. Sadly, my Grandfather has decided to hang up the clubs for good this winter. But they asked me to fill out the group in his place - which is a big honor. My uncles are a little better than me but not too much. I was able to win one of the two rounds we played this summer at a family reunion. Would really like to take home the trophy my first year with the group this summer.

Well done! No, it doesn't matter but they did seem to be a good fit!! You can wish some happiness on them in midst of all that craziness without being a fan boy ;) -

I didn't know that Brian had Ulcerative Colitis. Well, I suppose he doesn't now as a quick Google search revealed he had surgery to remove his colon - which is the only "cure". I'm no fan of Brian - he is completely delusional but essential to a funny show. Two years ago I was diagnosed with UC. Life sucked bad for a while. In all seriousness, I wouldn't wish this on my enemy. I wasn't able to play golf for months and then was super tentative and just downright scared because of what UC does to you. Thankfully I got better...until my medicine (apparently, so the doc's say) caused a reaction that ended up with me losing ~25% of my body weight (~45 lbs), being hospitalized and in an isolation room as they didn't know what was wrong - turned out to be just a lung infection but thought it might be TB. This was last Feb. From there I got better with HUGE doses of steroids - which is unsustainable, and now some new medicine which, sadly, is extremely expensive (think decent used car per treatment). All that said I'm back to doing well (which is priceless, trust me) but will never be free from it. From speaking with other long time UC sufferers the mental aspect dies down but never goes away. FWIW, Heath Slocum also has UC. He apparently almost died before being correctly diagnosed years ago. I gotta root for Heath to win just because of that. I won't root for Brian, but I know wonder what part of his personality was shaped by having UC. It's physically debilitating and mentally torturous. His narcissistic ( http://goo.gl/hgrM ) tendencies might be related. ...and his one liners are just classic. This season of BB was, all in all, good and interesting. The new format was odd at first but worked out. They should keep it in the rotation. The men had such a poor showing on the last show. To win the first challenge, have an extra player AND still lose? OUCH. That's the thing about golf though. Some days you have it, some days you don't. Apparently no male had it that day. -

Wow, that's a great deal! TGW.com is having a 15% off sale which takes these to $76.50 and free shipping. I think I'm going to bite. I gotta get two so I have a replacement for both my 52 and 58. At least the face plates are the same on all models.

I think I was fitted for the wrong shaft
ryanf replied to Zach Attack's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
You're right but mistakes do happen sometimes. How a company reacts to those mistakes makes a big difference. -
Does anybody know if they are going to be able to make the Z groove inserts after the end of the year? I'm thinking of making the switch and I'm not sure if I need to "stock up" on the inserts as well.

I find Johnny Miller to be annoying gas bag. I know he could wing a stick with the best of them for a couple of years, but that doesn't mean you give them a mic. I'm a younger golf fan I don't care to listen to him AT ALL. Faldo is much more interesting to me, but sometimes peace and quiet is best. My grandparents don't think golf should be televised without JM commentary. I'mt he opposite - I think it should be a crime to let him sit in the booth. For now, I'm pretty sure my grandparents generation gets to decide...for now. One of my biggest problems with him is he CONSTANTLY repeats himself and says the SAME thing 1000 times a broadcast. At the beginning of the year it was constantly "He's got to consider a possible flyer with the new grooves in play", 5 seconds later "this one might be a flyer". If someone hit it slightly farther tan the target it was a "flyer due to the new grooves" and if slightly short it was "they were tentative in case of a flyer with the new grooves". GIVE IT UP ALREADY! I loved watching the stats from each tour event in Golf Week. The basic result of the new grooves? Less than a yard shorter off the tee and the tour was more accurate with approaches. Hey Miller - fly THIS! :D

Best of luck! Can't wait to hear how it goes!

- I always mark my ball with a single green dot (green sharpie - has to be the same shade!) just to the right of the number. I don't like it when others don't mark their ball. - My clubs must be in order - there's a certain "path" they take as you follow the order through the bag. It's on purpose. I don't care at all if a buddy wants to hit one of my clubs. I VERY much care if they don't put it back in the right spot. - I never remove my glove to putt. I just don't think about it. I'm concentrating on other things. - If I'm just off the green I'll always chip instead of putt. I have a much better chance of draining the chip too. I have a very hard time judging speed through the fringe and I'm far more likely to misjudge the putt big then misjudge the chip. I hole a fair number of shots from just off the green (I average almost 1 chip-in per round). - People always apologize for making noise or moving during my swing. Listen people - I don't care at all. I have ZERO focus on you or anything outside my shot. Whatever you did, its not interrupting me. (But please don't do anything on purpose; thats just rude. But no need to apologize profusely for a mistake. I very much doubt it affected my shot). Thats probably more of a pet peeve then an oddity of my game.
