  1. I believe I have been a member of this forum in "good standing" long enough that I can post a message like this, and not break the rules of the forum. My Saturday traveling golf league (The Cleveland Industrial Golf League) is gearing up for our 76th seasons "winter meeting" next month (February 2009). Our league is in need of new players (to bolster existing teams), and new teams (we currently have ten teams in our league), one team would be nice, but two new teams would be even better. Our web site is www.CIGL.org and it "bares all" about our league and how it works. Anyone in the Cleveland Ohio area who is interested, please use the contact information on our home page. We look forward to hearing from you! Thanks in advance, TD

    snow.

As of this writting it is -3 F on the North Coast... Wind chills are in the negative double digits! The lake is FINALLY frozen so we should not get any more "lake effect", I'm sure the folks in Buffalo are happy about that... Playing golf here may as well be a million miles away If my car starts, I'm heading home to some ice cold beers, and watch the pro's teeing it up in Hawaii... How many days 'till Spring training? Where there is baseball, golf can not be too far behind...
  3. Definitely iron shafts. Hybrids are more iron than wood IMHO. Using the "thicker tipped" iron shafts you gain more control, the "Sorta wood" head gives you forgiveness. You want your hybrids to "fit in" to the rest of your set as much as you can, including weight, length, and shaft material. It works for me.

    Rugby

My oldest son played rugby for The Bowling Green State University (Ohio) Fighting Falcons in 2001 and 2002. He also went with the team to South Africa in '02 for some kind of world tournament. My son has done the "Naked Zulu Warrior" in two different continents, and two different hemispheres! Mother and I are SO proud!!!!! Does YOUR drinking club have a Rugby problem too????
  5. YES.... well, that was easy after the fact. But now, they will get first pick in the draft, and more than likely that will be Beanie Wells. Too bad... The same thing happened to O.J. I hope Beanie has a better career than the Juice did, and beyond!
  6. As a PITT grad, I would NOT like the game to be at Beaver stadium! But an ALL PA Super Bowl would be terrific.... Hey.... Play the first half in the 'Burg, and the second half the next day in Philly!!!! Football in January in PA....... You gotta love it!!! Go Stillers!!!!!
  7. I'm fat, lazy, and ugly too! And, as a fat, lazy ugly American I can, and do use the biggest ugliest American Staff bag I can find (I'd use Rodney's if I could find it). I love my staff bag. There are pockets for everything, and room to spare. The only pocket I cannot get to when I'm riding in my fat lazy E-Z GO golf cart is the tiny flat pocket just above where my name SHOULD BE! I play every weekend, and I use my fat lazy ugly staff bag, and so do a lot of my fat lazy ugly American friends. The only thing I DO NOT have is my name on my staff bag, because I am still just a weekend warrior! Cart bags are very good, and serve a useful purpose. And if you are so inclined, they will make the game more enjoyable for you! Have fun!
  8. Would you wear your "ball hangers" and a "wife beater" to Church, or your sisters wedding, or your Gramma's funeral? It's not arbitrary, it's what the "community" believes to be appropriate. A dress code is not infringing on your civil liberties, it's just the courteous thing to do. That's all.

    Glove?

Long answer: I use a glove on my left hand for all full shots. No glove for chipping and putting. About 15 years ago I stopped using a glove, money was tight, the kids were little, and a nine hole ticket cost as much as a glove. So I got in the habit of not wearing a glove, but in the summer, my hands would sweat, so I switched to cord grips. Tore my hands up for a little while, then got used to it. I stayed that way until the end of the 2007 season. I lost the league championship because it was so hot and humid that day, I was sweating from my eye balls. I was even going into the last hole, and I had to give my opponent a stroke (number 1 handicap hole). I could barely breath, and my hands were sweating like crazy. I took a huge swing, and the club twisted in my hands, and up and over the trees on the right side my tee ball went. I was on the number 1 green. Game over I went out and bought a glove the next day, and have used one ever since. The control is amazing and I can swing as hard as I want in the heat of the summer, and not lose control of my club. Short Answer: Yes

  11. Definitely good for the game. If you dress good you feel good, and play good. This is a no brainer people! Taking a "dump" is "natural" and feels good, but I don't wanna see people doing it! If you go out in public, act like you belong!
  12. You know why guys wear a necklace don't you? So they know where to stop shaving!!!! LOL Seriously, I don't wear jewlery anyway except my wedding ring, and that comes OFF when I play golf! Don't wanna take a chance on losing something REALLY important!!! Plus... you never know when you may meet a really hot babe on the course who needs help with her short game!!!!!
  13. 1. 9-iron Nicklaus made a living this way! 2. Augusta Daaaaaaaa 3. Hole out from as far away as possible!! 4. firm putter soft ball 5. hybrid 6. Put me on the tour!!!!! 7. 4 hours with my friends FEEDS my soul! 8. ride - I had a tooma removed from my leg! 9. YES! Good thread!!!
  14. Where you are going, that man has already been. Learn from him... you will BOTH be better for it! That's the beauty of this game...
  15. OK boys and girls, here is your history lesson for today. Notah Begay III, the only full-blooded Native American on the PGA Tour, Putts that way. In addition to winning 4 PGA Tour tournaments, Notah became only the third player in the history of professional golf to shoot 59 in a professional event at the 1998 NIKE Dominion Open (after missing a putt for 58!!!!). On left to right putts, he putts left handed, and on right to left putts, he putts right handed, all with the same putter! I dunno what he does if the putt is straight!! I think he played with a Scotty Cameron bullseye, which you can still buy (I think). I used several many years ago, and you just can’t beat the feel of solid brass! I never cared for the models that had offset in the neck. You have to be careful when you get angry on the greens. I slammed a bullseye on the ground once after missing a putt, and BENT the heck out of the neck! To this day, my "liking" of the bullseye determines what modern putter I use. My 2Bar putter at address looks like a bullseye (with all kinds of stuff attached to the back). That is to say, there is no offset in the 2Bar blade model I use, the shaft goes straight into the head with NO BENDS... I like that, and if you use a bullseye, you will like it too!!!! Good Luck and ENJOY!!!
  16. When I got my Titleist Tour models, they came with a 1 iron and 3 iron thru SW. The 1 iron was a driving iron, never intended to be hit out of the ruff. I have since got , and retired my 2 iron, and now my 3 iron is in the closet with the 1 and 2. Nicklaus said recently that he does not like the hybrids because "they are made to hit the ball straight", he wants to be able to control his shorts, and he also feels he can "do more" with a 1 or 2 iron, than he can with a hybrid. Get a hybrid that fits you AND the rest of your set. Consistency in shaft material, club length, and weight is really important, along with loft. You don't want your 2 hybrid to have the same loft as your 3 iron. There is a lot of variety out there, and the "search" can be fun. I personally love my Cleveland hybrids, they to me setup best with NOT a lot of offset. Good luck, and have fun!
  17. Is it a steel shaft or a graphite shaft? Why do you want to take 1" off? If you cut from the tip end, you will make the shaft much stiffer... (I would be very reluctant to cut the tip end of a graphite shaft). With the variety of specs on graphite shafts today, you should be able to find exactly what you want/need without having to alter the shaft as soon as you get it. When you install the shaft into the head, you always trim from the butt end (to length). The longer the shaft is the "softer" the shaft will be, and the heavier the swing weight will be... Conversely, the shorter the shaft is the "Stiffer" the shaft will be, and the swing weight will be lighter. Check out any Ralph Maltby's book (and maybe even a web site) about swing weight. Ralph has figured it all out in PAINFUL detail. He will tell you more than you EVER wanted to know. Good luck!
  18. Ya, that's what I was talking about. Under our name and location etc. on the left side of the screen, there used to be little Blue "chiclets" for a persons reputation. I know you can go way out of your way and find out what a persons reputation is, but it was way easier when your reputation "power" was displayed right there under your name.
  19. I think this site is pretty real good. There is an enormous amount of info here (not just in the forum). One of the things I would like to see changed is the "time out" time extended. I can't tell you how many times I have written a response to a thread, to find out I have been signed out! Not the end of the world, but I minor inconvenience. Second, I would like to see the "Atta Boy" Chiclets come back. I think, If a person is a wealth of information, and really helps a lot of folks with what they write, I think that should be noted, and the opposite also, when someone is a chronic pain in the....... Third, I would really like to see the SEARCH function "beefed up". It's nice to be able to search for things, but, the search (to me) seems too elementary. That is to say, if I want to search for "The Green Jacket", I want to find all the threads that have "The Green Jacket", not all the threads that have "The", and "Green", and "Jacket"...... Ya know what I mean? I guess that’s it... I really do like this place.... Keep it up!!!!

  23. I recently had a (minor) operation, and the little girly girl internal medicine doctor who did my pre-operative interview told me that according to their "height to weight" chart, I was 9 points away from being morbidly obese!! I am 5' 10 and 1/2", and weigh (last month) 218 pounds (which was right after Thanksgiving). Though the doctor did admit to me that I did not look "that over weight", but she still had to go through her "doctor speech" about my weight. I do all the right things, I just need (a little) portion control at dinner, and I have to find a way to do some exercise. My wife and I bought a tread mill the other day, and we plan to start walking every day (and watch TV, instead of sitting every day and watching TV). My biggest problem right now, is that I do not drink AT ALL during the week. But drink TOO much on the weekends. I know it is a moderation thing, but, I am the poster boy for O.C.D. I don't do anything "halffast", when I do something, I do it ALL THE WAY! So, I guess, for a while anyway, I won't be drinking any beer... God help me!!!
  24. Hey Good for You!!! In about 30 more years you will have a new bigger goal to beat! I think I did it the first time when I was 39... That was a big deal for me, shortly after I shot 79 (and broke 80)... I still have that golf ball!!! Enjoy!
  25. That IS all there is to it! Just be careful. Making your left hand "a little" stronger is a good "one aspirin" fix... So DON'T take the whole bottle! I have found that the strong left hand helped my swing path back to the ball immediately!!!! You will now be coming from the inside, and you will be hitting the ball FLUSH... with POWER! Just don't over do it, or you will be fighting the HOOK just like Hogan did! Besides Freddy, take a look at Zinger (Paul is a BIT extreme!) ENJOY!!!!
