  2. I've actually heard of a drill where you drop the club as you complete your downswing, but you don't throw it. Supposedly it helps get you more in sync with developing lag and temp.
  3. You guys are funny. I shot a 53 today on 9 holes and that was tied for my best round. But hey, I shot 8 strokes under you and I'm a 36 handicap so I feel proud of that. But we all have bad days and tough courses, I shot a 134 on Indian Creek(my highest ever) tough course though lots of water hazards.
  4. I bought the Callaway Razr x black for 439(4-PW) and they perform great once I got used to them. Unless you are playing really tough courses where you need to fade and draw iron shots then cavity back straight distance irons such as these and your Adams will work great. I'm needing to actually replace my 5 wood with a 2 or 3 hybrid(16.5-19 degrees), I'll be sure to check Adams Golf for some deals.
  5. I try to never pay more than $40 for a round of golf(18 holes with cart and range balls warm-up). I have played Colorado National and the Rawls Course(both championship courses) for 40 and 35 with range balls respectively. And those are among the top public courses in their states. I always try to book twilight times online, Golfnow has some amazing deals, I'm able to play great courses for 50%+ discounts. That said, typical rates in my area are as follows: Low-tier municipal courses(such as Lake Park 18 or Twin Wells)- $20-25 with cart and $6 for range balls. $15 at 5PM Mid-tier public courses(Such as Indian Creek, Riverchase, Trails of Frisco, your average decent golf course)- $30-50 with cart and $5 for range balls. $15-25 at 5PM High-tier public courses(Tribute Golf Club, Heritage, Castle Hills, Waterchase)- $70-150 with cart, range balls included. $50-75 twilight rates around 3-4. As you can guess, I don't play above mid tier as I consider it a waste of money and balls for my handicap. Looks like I'm paying good rates compared to some of you.
  6. I played with some guys today, one of them hit the pin on a 30 yard chip shot, guess we should have counted that as a birdie 3. Still was an amazing shot though and hell of a par save.
  7. 420 yard par 5 9th hole to end the round(I tee it forward, 36 hcp). I nail a nice drive, gues it carried to 220 yard because I was left with just about a 200 yard shot from the edge of first cut rough and fairway. I decided to be aggressive since this had been a good round so far(Just one triple and nothing worse). I pulled out my 3 wood and nailed it 200 yards, the shot was parallel to the flag stick, just pulled it slightly to the left but managed to clear the large greenside bunker designed to put the risk in risk/reward. Anyhow, I hit a clean one and find that my ball has cleared the bunker and is just in the right side rough around the green. A simple pitch and I'm within 6-7 foot of the hole with a solid shot for birdie. Thought it could be my first bird, but alas nerves got to me and I sent the ball 2-3 feet past the hole on my put. Recovered nicely for my only par on the 9 hole round today, and to finish with too. Other notable shots from this round were a 250 yard drive down the drivable par 4 and a GIR on a 115 yard par 3 using a PW. My game is improving a lot and I'm loving it. I'm knowing my distances better, hitting cleaner, crisper and more up in the air not to mention distance. Once upon a time I was lucky to hit a driver over 210, now I'm regularly pounding it 250.
  8. Tied for my lowest ever 9 hole scored at 53 on the front 9 at Lake Park in Lewisville today. Great start with a double bogey for me, than triple on hole 2. Then I hit a groove and shot a couple doubles. Then I hit a GIR on hole 7 and 3 putted for my first bogey on that round. Finished hole 9 with a great drive, 2nd shot 3 wood carried 200 yards but pulled to the left, but cleared the bunker. Pitched onto the green and 2 putts for par(Almost a birdie but the nerves to making my first birdie got to me. Nothing worse than a triple bogey for all 9 holes. I played perfectly to my handicap pretty much.
  9. I've played two rounds this week so I'll pick my two best shots from eacrpin4l At Indian Creek the other day, aside from the beautiful drives I hit my best shot on that course on the 18th hole(to keep coming me back for me) I had hit some water hazards and it wasn't going good. I managed to clear the water hazard leaving me with a 55 yard approach from a first cut rough lie to the right of the flagstick . I decide to take my trusty Titleist Vokey 56 and take a solid half swing pitch and just pop it out, which landed within 6 foot of the hole. it was q beautiful shot which of course I ended up missing the putt. Today I hit many good shots at The Trails of Frisco. Started with a clean 225 yard drive on the par 5, followed by a layup with hybrid and then approach with hybrid just a little left. I chipped on teh green two putts for bogey. I also hit an almost GIR on a par 3 hole 5 I think, ended up bogey that one. What takes the cake was hole 8 a drivable par 4 at 207 yards. I took 3 wood of the tree hopping to hit the green but land just short of a green side bunker. I take a great pitch which was close enough to birdie( mayne 8-10 ft), but it wasn't my time and two putrs for par.
  10. I'm the loving new USGA "Tee it Foward" campaign. As a 36 handicapper the scorecard said I should be playing from the forward tees anyways at over 5100 yards it presented a fair challenge with some easy drivable par 4's at 225 yards and 359 yard ones which I parred and quadruple bogeyed respectivetly. Made a par and 2 bogeys over 24 holes. I I shot a 98 over 14 holes and then ran out of of balls after hitting a slice in a tree then a hook in the left trees on hole 15. Would have probably around a 120-130 ny usual sceore.
  11. Hey, played another round today. The slicing has gone down a lot just due to simple improvements in grip, stance and swing path. If I hit a bad shot though, it is usually slice. I have tamed into a workable fade. Sometimes I will hit straight though when I was intending to fade, so my slice is improving. A slow relaxed swing does seem to help, but it's a tradeoff for distance. I hit my driver anywhere from 250-280 on a good hit, with a slow controlled swing it's more like 200 yards. My biggest problems are topping(getting the ball up in the air), hitting behind the ball, occasional shanking and not carrying enough distance.
  12. For reference here is the old one from last year.
  13. I have improved this swing a lot, if you look at my old swing video you could see that I didn't even try to keep my left arm straight and I had an outside-in backswing. I can already notice a few things I can fix though, my head should be more stable, my left arm should be more straight and my legs need a better transition through the swing. I really like how my hands are squaring up at impact though. Any tips appreciated.
  14. I've been Playing Golf for: 1 year My current handicap index or average score is:36.4 My typical ball flight is:medium trajectory, slight fade The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Topping, shanking, not getting the ball up Videos:
  15. I'm getting better so I finally have some concrete things to works on. -Wedges: I have 4 wedges now in my bag and I'm trying to figure out which to keep and how far each one goes. I'm in love with my 64 and 56. I can't decide if I should keep my 52 or my 60 now. I also need to work on short game distances with these wedges, and dropping and stopping on greens instead of letting the ball roll away. -Irons- I still have a hard time hitting a 6 and 5 iron, and a 7 and 8 iron are topped sometimes as well. I need to move my ball back in stance, that's really the only problem because I'm hitting a divot behind the ball and thus topping it. -Woods/hybrid- I'm hitting driver, hybrid and wood better than ever(250 yard drives). I just need to work on 3 and 5 wood off the deck, keeping the swing plane shallow and hitting down on the ball. Mechanics- I need to work on starting with more weight on left foot and then transferring to right foot for the backswing, then releasing through. If I do this every time my shots go really far, this lack of leg work has been holding back my distance and consistency for quite some time. My slicing has improved vastly. I used to intentionally aim left to adjust for my slice, and now I'm hitting shots left! I took a video of my swing again, and I've improved leagues in 1 years. I'm still have trouble keeping the left arm straight and still swinging from the outside a little. MAjor improvements though, watching all those slow motion golf swings really helps. Overall the most work needed is short pitches and getting mid-iron shots up in the air. I have improved so much it's amazing, in 1 year I only shot a par 3 times. Yesterday shot two pars and three bogeys over 14 holes.
  16. PLayed at Stone Gate today, its a regular front 9 then a par 3 executive back 9. I got 14 holes in before it got dark. First tee, a 280 yard drivable par 4 with a water hazard behind the green. I step up with my Burner Superfast that I just hit about 5 balls with on the range. Crack drive 250 yards right toward the green. I always wanted to drive that hole. Anyhow I ended up taking my second shot with my new 64 wedge and got it close enough for a 2 put par. Which for me is quite good. My second good shot was on hole 6. I'm participating in the USGA "tee it forward" campaign so I was playing from the reds, no shame and it's nice to play faster and scored pars and bogeys instead of doubles and triples Hole 6 is a severe dogleg right, 217 yards from the reds. impossible to go for the green because of trees blocking the direct route. So I aim for the the farthest tree straight ahead 187 yards or so and aim for that with my new 4 hybrid, planning to fade it around the dogleg since I can carry that club 170-175 max. Well, I end up hitting a perfect fade and leave about 36 or so yards to the hole. I end up baffling the hole because my short game is shit(3 putts for double), but it was a great tee shot. Overall it was a great round, played some of the best golf of my life, It is motivating to have the chance to make a par or even birdie every time I step up to a hole. I high recommend teeing it forward for you macho guys who are playing too long for your handicaps. You know who you are so I don't need to say anything more.
  17. Played a full 18 holes today for the first time(usually play short rounds), shot a 125. Not bad for my first full round, but I could have done better. I know what I need to work on though.
  18. Amazing round today, first of all holed 2 chip shots one from about 25 feet and the other 15 or so. My best drive was a a beautiful 250 yarder. I hit a fade and aimed left, and the ball just faded beautifully right onto the middle of the fairway.
  19. A couple of things right now. Firstly keeping the club face square at impact and developing better clubhead control over all. Wrist movements, I'm flipping or doing something that is not keeping my left wrist in the proper position through the downswing, my wrist is sore today from this action. Accelerating through the downswing and lag timing. I finally have worked a pretty consistent swing out, I just have to tweak it to get consistent acceleration and not add loft to irons. Working on consistent distances overall.
  20. Ok, this was a couple weeks ago but I didn't get around to posting about it. It was a par 4, one of the harder ones on the course. I hit my drive slightly to the left in the rough. 2nd shot is good distance but hits a greenside bunker. I take 3 shots trying to get it out, but it's just not happening. My round was going bad that day, so I didn't let it phase me. The lie is right on the lip, but definitely still in the sand. I open the club face major, so much that the club head is basically sideways. I take my 56 degree Vokey and take an almost vertical swing. The ball pops up high, lots of loft, lands inches from the cup and rolls in. That was pretty much exactly what I did, actually threw my right arm up and said "It went in!" to the group playing behind me. First time I took 0 putts on a hole and it was a holed bunker shot. Amazing, one of the best shots I ever made for sure.
  21. Hole 3 at Lake park, it's a par 3 165 yards. I set up a two club lengths back behind the tees, which was a mistake I think. I teed off with my trusty 7 wood and sliced right into a tree. I heard it hit the branches and drove up to find it about 30 yards to the green. I use the 56 vokey wedge and do a short pitch and roll onto the green. The ball lands on the green and the brake rolls perfect and I'm left with a short 2-3 foot put for par! It was definitely the best shot of the round, which was only 9 holes unfortunately due to the early sunset.
  22. Need to update this since I have achieved some of these goals now and I need to update since I'm hitting much better than when I posted this and I got some new irons. 1. Make birdie on a hole (shot a par last month for the first time) 2. Play a full 18 rounds from the white tees(still haven't accomplished it but I will soon, only reason I couldn't last time was it started raining. 3. Hit my irons, especially long irons more consistently. I can hit the short irons all right, but my long irons need work. 4. Hit straighter shots. My slice is gone for the most part since I keep my left arm much straighter now, but I hit occasional slice or even the rare hook. I can work on this by keeping my left arm straighter and staying down on the ball. 5. Hit the GIR at least once on a par 5 AND a par 4. 6. Buy a 2 hybrid for my bag. I can hit my 7 wood now, in fact its become one of my favorite clubs in my bag. I would like a 2 hybrid though and maybe take my 5 wood out. 7. Hit a par 5 green in 2 shots. Okay, probably won't achieve this one, but it's a fun goal and I certainly love to try. In fact, I had a chance on a par 5 I played at Colarado national but I couldn't hit my 3 wood out of that lie, it wasn't far to the hole though, I could literally see the green on my second shot probably 200 or slightly less yardage. Well this is a more reasonable list, and its cool that I accomplished some of my goals on the first list. But I'm always coming up with more, and always improving.
  23. Well I just got back from the range and breaking in my new irons(Callaway Razr X Black). They are definitely nice, I'll do a review once I hit them a few more times and play a round. Anyways, here's my problems based on how I hit my irons this time around, already I hit them much better than my old ones and I know these are going to be big game improvers for me. Still a few things -Hitting the 5 and 4 iron more consistently. I know how, but I top them more than my short irons and slice them sometimes even if I hit them. Need to just practice. -Hitting the driver. What happened?! I couldn't hit a single decent drive today, granted I only took 5 drives, but only one even went a reasonable distance and it was too low in the air. I think this may have just been a problem with the range I was practicing on, you have to hit your drives from the grassy area in front of the turf practice tees, and it's really bumpy so I couldn't get my stance correct. Will spend some time practicing. -Short game, needs big work. I really need to practice chipping for like a few hours, my chips are all over the place and don't really have enough consistency. My few practice pitches seemed better though. As usual my putting is fine, and I even sunk my farthest putt today, I would estimate it about 20-30 foot putt maybe longer. I seriously need to set aside a solid hour for chipping practice. and finally -Bunker play. I was never that good, I can get the ball out but consistency is a big problem. I usually drop it on the green, but then it just rolls too much and ends up hitting the rough. Sometimes I make contact with the ball instead of the sand and I fly it out of the bunker past the green. More bunker practice seems the key.
  24. My all-time favorite(and I've used just about every brand of ball on the course) is the Titleist NXT Tour and Pro V1(too expensive though). The NXT Tour just gives me confidence, especially on drives I never hit more fairways than when I'm playing with an NXT. I also like them for putting, they are light and roll quick which helps on tricky greens. I also like the Bridgestone E5 and E6 which I used for the first time about a month ago. Hit some nice shots but they didn't give me the best performance.
  25. Two main things -Slicing- My biggest problem since I moved up from the driving range to the course. -Topping- Wasn't initially a problem but has become worse now. Not sure what is causing this, I try my best to keep keep my left arm straight(which helps with slicing) and keep my head down but I still hit a few tops every round. Getting better with the irons though, just need to get my distance straight. I rarely top my woods though. Two lesser things -Pitching- the right distance, I either hit it short or long. Very rare for me to hit a perfect pitch on the green. -Chipping. Just when I thought I had the formula down, I now am overthinking and tend to hit my chips nice but a tad hard and they roll too far, sometimes even to the dreaded other side of the green. I rarely chip short though, and this is a minor thing since I can't some good chips occasionally. If I correct these 4 things, I'm convinced I could be a much better golfer.
