1st statement... very true, I'm sure there are a few people on here stretching the truth, just look at the long drive threads. 2nd statement... see below, I don't necessarily think so. interesting question... see my discussuin below of "hackers" and what % of golfers they are and what % of golf they play... That's the thing... it's really hard to tell what % of golfers have X handicap, and make assumptions about what they bring to the business... 1) many high handicaps don't have handicaps 2) as a general rule high handicaps probably play less than low handicaps 3) we don't know the % for #2, but this is huge - some courses might do fine with no 20 cappers playing (just making an assumption) 4) low cappers probably spend more per year on golf equipment (not sure though) It's really hard to draw any generalizations... I do know that I like playing with anyone who can keep pace and is good company (e.g. not a jerk or has bad ettiquette). I run into a fair share of mid-low cappers on the course, probably because they play more rounds than most 20 cappers... so playing bogey golf probably doesn't make you better than most people you will play with (in my experience... a previous poster mentioned something along these lines). Personally I don't really care who accounts for what... I'm just saying it is a difficult thing to measure. The only people I don't want to see on the course are the ones that make me wish I could always play on weekdays (slow people). P.S. Erik, it's about time you took Sid the Kid off your Avatar... it was painful seeing him after what happened to the Wings in the finals, thank you.

MOST IMPORTANT and only QUESTION: Which one do YOU hit BEST? If you like the old 07's play them... they haven't put anything in the new clubs that makes them better for EVERYONE, it's just a preference question. I personally would probably NEVER buy a full priced brand new club, why when next year it will cost 1/2 price. Technology doesn't change that fast, and I can wait.
-
I'm sorry, I'm really not trying to be offensive... but as a 20+ handicap how good do you hit those shots (low draws and punch fades), and if you need them that often what are you doing to get in that situation? I'm just curious here, I just know the 20 cappers I see could not hit a low draw if someone had a gun to their head. I agree this is a usefull shot... I find that most of the time I can navigate a low shot with my 4 though. That's what everyone needs to figure out... it's simply a question of which one will get you home in LESS strokes most consistently. There is NO rule and each person should base his decision on his game alone. For me, the 4 iron is my trouble club and I still hit it great. The 3 hybrid on the other hand is better for ME on those long par 3's and for attacking par 5's, mostly because it lands softer and I have better distance control (probably because I didn't hit my 3-iron as well). It has been 2-3 yrs since I have hit a 3-iron though, so I would be curious to try one sometime again just for the sake of comparison. Anyway... go with what works for YOU.
-
I do that as well, sometimes... but after playing many rounds with my brother-in-law, I getting better at playing my game even if he is working on seeing just how many balls he can loose on one par 5 or if is possible to wear out the grooves on his wedge in one sandtrap.
-
it's a landslide... maybe you should have made the poll cheeze-it v. goldfish... that would be a tough pick.

Looking for a new hybrid - opinions appreciated

Either the sport you play with this bag is NOT golf... OR you take clubs out before you play. Rule 4-4. Maximum of 14 Clubs a. Selection and Addition of Clubs The player must not start a stipulated round with more than 14 clubs. He is limited to the clubs thus selected for that round, except that if he started with fewer than 14 clubs, he may add any number, provided his total number does not exceed 14. -

what is good v. junk simply depends on what you like... this is 100% preference type thing. You will not loose ANYTHING by going with a 2007 model v. a 2010 model, unless of course you hit the new one better, but that aside, the technology is the same. I like Adams and Nickent... they make some smaller sized hybrids which I like, but again... 100% preference. -
1) While at Myrtle playing the Witch with my brother-in-law, Tony, we are teeing off on (maybe 10), and there is a maintenance guy parked and watching us. Tony hits this huge push which hits a tree about 60 yards out, bounces hard left and hits another tree on the opposite side of the fairway finally comming to rest about 70 yds out left center of the fairway. I was laying on the teebox laughing my butt off. 2) I hit two shots into a pond that was only about a 40yd carry off the tee box while a cart girl was watching... happened last year, while I was a single digit handicap. Topped both of them... probablly the only two topped tee shots I hit all year with a driver... extremely embarrassing. Took a 10 on the hole with one putt. 3) While playing JV I watched a teemate playing in his first match hit another player standing on the side of the tee box waiting for his group. Almost a 90* shot... he was pretty embarrassed, shot something like 75 for 9 holes.

Wow... read most of that article... very interesting. Nice DA's you guys have up there in Philly. Will be interesting to see if anything happens as a result of the civil suits. Also, interesting note about the many witnesses who have dissappeared through the years.

Pebble Beach Trip Do's and Dont's
Big_M replied to 65withatriple's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
ehhh... Henrick Stenson does it all the time... as long as he's got his stick's with him and "starts" in the proper attire. If you need a ninth just let me know... 867-5309, ask for Mike. Not joking either... you know golf trips are best with nine people, then whoever parties too late and won't get up just gets left back at the condo. -
I like the idea of badges, and I like the idea of humurous ones. Make it so... if you want.

I completely agree with that. I also agree with the point you made about draw and fade biased clubs... people should fix their swings. I personally struggled like you after not having played a lot in 3-4 years, then going out to buy new equipment only to find drivers had gotten huge (this was 4-5 yrs ago). I actually mini-stepped up with a 360cc driver, then got a 460cc head a year later. Now I have the toaster (square driver) in my sig, and actually I hit it really well, and can work the ball pretty well with it. It has a smaller head than many of the drivers out there, which I liked. Not sure what I will end up with next... some drivers look good to me (FT-5, FT-9, Adams Speedline, Ping i-15, 909's) while others look terrible (Cleveland HiBore, Nike Sumo, Taylormade Burners)... it's just a preference thing. I just hope we are continued to be offered a variety. Also, with so many new drivers comming out these days you missed the best part... HUGE discounts on 1-2 yr old technology that is just as good.
-
thing is... these drivers aren't meant to help people who ALREADY ARE CONSISTENT... they are for people who ARE NOT AS CONSISTENT. The large square heads and max MOI drivers are meant to reduce the effects of off-center hits... most pros usually find the center of the clubface, most better players do as well... but a 20 handicap benefits imensely from these giant drivers. They are starting to make a little of both from each company now... the tour models not being quite as huge (long, etc.). It is true, for a while it seemed everyone wanted the largest, oddest looking thing possible, now they are starting to offer a little of each. My point is merely this, the super high MOI drivers DO help certain people, they DO have a place in golf. I personally hope companies continue to offer a VARIETY, and let people choose what works best for them.

funny... I must admit, I have a pair of imitation crocs... they are nice for wearing to the pool, canoeing, or stuff like that. I however, do not wear them to the mall, to dinner, or otherwise... and I sure as hell would not wear something like that to play golf.

Haven't looked at this thread in a bit because I thought just about everything got said in the first two pages... I was wrong. When I walk, I use a push cart, and I will pretty much guarantee that does the least amount of so called "damage" to clubs. Otherwise, it just depends how people walk and/or drive golf carts. That's a good idea if you carry! So you basically get an extra $100, but you replace your irons every year or two... I save that $100 just by keeping my irons a little longer. Also, it is my opinion that iron covers are WAY more trouble than they are worth, and I like to actually see my irons. I agree... and even if they wear the grooves down a small bit... grooves can be refinished pretty easily. A small price to pay for actually having clean ones that work. I try to use the nylon side, but when they are extra gunky I don't hesitate to use the brass.

OK, if we must... Never heard of those, but will have to check them out now. Thanks for the suggestion. I actually just bought a box of Srixon Tri-Speed and Srixon AD333 a few days ago, but I need to finish using the collection of various balls I still have. I have been searching for something to settle on since I can't find those Maxfli C3 Reds anymore... guess I should've known to buy 5-6 dozen instead of just 3.

I have NO sense of superiority... in fact it was you that made a comment about getting a new job if you can't afford $40 a box for balls. If you look at my posts through the last few years, you would see that 99% of the time I am trying to help people and be cordial... but you were out of line. As to "flaming" you... big deal, are you really so sensative that someone can't point out that your post was a poor suggestion (I think that is different from taking a personal shot, like you tried - JMO). Anyway... I'm moving on, hopefully you're a nice guy and just responded w/o thinking, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt... good golfing to you, no hard feelings, hope you enjoy TST.

Excellent... just make sure you post back and let us know if all is there and everything looks good (fingers crossed for ya).

yeah... I actually hate wearing all jewlery. I only wear my wedding ring because it means a lot to me. I never wear it unless I'm going out and I usually don't even take it to golf or hockey for fear of it being lost or stolen when I take it off to play. I think we should just get wedding tattoos... cheaper and more efficeint.

This weekend it is going to warn up, actually it was a little warmer today... but, it is supposed to rain all weekend. I would watch the weather and think about postponing if possible.

Carl's Golfland is totally legit... I used to live in Michigan and have done a ton of business with both of thier stores... do not hesitate. Actually, the irons in my sig are from Carl's, but I bought them in the actual store. Again... it is a great golf store... anytime I can support them over Big Box POS stores like Galaxy, Dick's, etc. I DO.
-
Still no word from AK... what gives? Maybe you and your friend are a little... well... uhm, off?
-
just clean them and care for them... wipe them down often, clean the grooves, grips, etc. do a search on iron covers... you will find that most golfers think they are pretty lame... I happen to agree... way more hassle than they are worth, and they don't really do much. But, to each his own. sure maybe a little... less hitting off of crazy lies in the woods... but still, I doubt this is the biggest issue. Scratches and dings are normal, keep them clean, and don't mistreat them and they shouldn't look "war-zoned". I've put about 120 rounds on my current set and they still look damn good, very clean, finish is the same, but there ARE a couple small dings on the soles, and you can see a quarter size htting zone on the faces. Forged irons will ding easier than cast... just a fact of life... but small dings do not effect playability anyway.

1) actually, it's the OP's bank we are talking about, I am all set thanks anyway though. 2) if he mentioned price I doubt he want's something that is in that upper tier. 3) is someone less of a person if they want to be more frugal about what kind of balls they buy? 4) some people just can't justify spending $40 for a box of balls when something will fit thier needs that costs $10-20 5) I can make a box last about 6-8 rounds... which isn't a couple months, and a high handicapper might go through a box in 2 rounds 6) simple math... high handicapper plays 60 rounds... $1200 vs. $300-$500... I don't know about you, but $700-$900 does make a difference to me... I don't like to overpay for stuff for no reason
