I'm familiar with Miles of Golf, and you didn't make a bad move. They do a really thorough job fitting and they are a good store. I always went to Carl's when I lived in MI, but that's because it was closer to me, and they are also a really good local store. I bought my irons new because I am NOT standard and I knew that... it was worth the extra money. I always buy cheap (used or last year... usually online) when buying drivers, woods, and putters, but when it comes to irons I just shell out a little extra. I might consider Callaway Pre-owned for irons if Callaway ever made irons I like, but most likely I'll get some KZG, Scratch or other custom irons next. Since you are standard... you could have just paid them after the fitting, said thanks, and went to ebay or some other online dealer. Being non-standard is what keeps me from buying online, but knowing how much I could save it would be difficult if I was you and was standard. That being said... I like to put some money back into my local golf shop... Carl's and Miles are great stores and I would hate to see either one close. Down here in NC we mostly have Golf Galaxy and Edwin Watts, and I don't really care about them, but there are a few smaller shops and I am trying to find one I like that also has enough selection to be worth my time, so I can support a local business with regrips, shoes, hats, an occaisional club, etc.

Anyone use Tiger Woods PGA 2010 for Wii for practice?
Big_M replied to shaank0's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'm going to boldly predict that this too will be pretty worthless for any meaningful golf practice. In my opinion, unless you are swinging a real club, it's not even close. Even then, I don't like hitting into nets, domes, off mats, or otherwise... so I doubt any video game would ever meet my expectations. Maybe if you buy the game and they magically have little elves that grow grass in my living room, install a trackman and have me hit shots into a giant super realistic looking screen whil using trackman to produce my shots... and even then, putting and short game aren't simulated. -
I hate agreeing with all of you, but it is likely true... Canada will get a gold. I am a Wings fan, so it will be nice to see Stevie get the job done, but it still goes against every fiber of my body to root for Canada... but I will make them my 2nd and when the US doesn't make the medal round I will throw my support behind Canada. It's nothing personal with the Canada thing... it's just that I grew up near Detroit, MI and played hockey all my life (last night in fact). I have travelled all over Ontario playing in tournaments, as well as a few other provinces and most of the Midwest US. Going to Canada and winning a tounament was always one of the best feelings in hockey and we always played just a notch harder against a Canadian team than one from the states... it was an underdog, pride type thing. I even have a joke tee-shirt that says "Canadians are Eh' Holes" and at first glance it looks like a Molson Canadian shirt. People down here in NC don't even get it... not until I wore it to hockey last night someone actual got the joke. Maybe I'm just a little jelious, after all you guys basically dominate the best team sport and make the best beers. I can hardly even find Molson down here, but at least SOME places have Blue. Still, no reteraunts have it. anyway... enough with my long story... looking forward to watching the Olympics and I hope the US has another miracle in them, but if not GO CANADA and STEVIE.

obviously... based on this thread, SOME people care about more than Tiger. Golf survived many years w/o Tiger in fact. Sure he has changed the game, changed earning potential for the sport and the pros, but I dare say golf would do fine w/o him... there would simply be an adjustment period. I'm not saying I want Tiger gone... I actually want him back ASAP. I just want to turn on the one channel that is dedicated to golf and find something a little deeper than constant Tiger replays that 90% of serious golfers have already seen numerous times. There are soooo many other great players who I have rarely watched footage of. How about Justin Leonard or Phil's amateurs, how about some Jack, Arnie, and Watson stuff. I know they have rights to some of those videos. Hell, I've even seen them play some real old stuff with Sam Snead and Jimmy Demaret. Also, I could do w/o some of the ways Tiger has changed the way golf is broadcast... when he's 10 back I still see more of his shots than the leaders... come on, but that is neither here nor there and is a little off topic (sorry). Bottom line is this, people who watch the golf channel are mostly pretty serious golf fans, and I am betting that most of them would love to see some of these other guys classic matches rather than Tiger all week, all day, every hour (wish I could add a poll). yeah... I think that is the reason, but they could have changed that in light of the events. Not to mention, even if Tiger hadn't gotten in trouble, a whole week of him gets pretty boring when they do it EVERY year and sometimes twice a year. The channel needs to come up with more original programming and they need to show a little more variety... because the formula they are using doesn't work for me... and I'm guessing there's a few others out there who agree at least to a point with me.

yep... we're pretty much screwed unless they watch replays of 1980 for a month straight and get inspired. The US seems to be becoming bigger and bigger underdogs each year... not a good trend. There is some solid yound talent on the team, I just don't think it'll be enough. Maybe with such a young group we can build on that in the comming years and possibly have a good showing in 2014.

here they are

I have always used traditional wood tees, the wood color ones, maybe white if I'm feeling crazy. I will continue to do so. My brother-in-law on the other hand loves his brush tees... he also probably could not break 100 if you held a gun to his head.
-
that's difficult... I'm working from home right now and I like to take little breaks and watch some TV, feed and play with my daughter etc, and I am going through minor golf withdrawals... so I actually have to watch SOME golf at some point in the day... and lately all that's on is Tiger re-runs. oh wait... just got Phil's Secrets DVD in the mail today... that should take care of a couple days this week.
-
Anyone else sick of the Golf Channel playing all Tiger re-runs. I would love to watch highlights from ANY other player's amateur victory... or how about some of Phil's majors or Harington's OR any golf other than Tiger. Would love to watch some of the older matches. Don't get me wrong, I likle watching the Tiger ones, but I have seen ALL of them and they are WAY overplayed. Just asking for a little diversity here. sorry, rant over.

I agree with most others... 4-PW then just find some wedges you like. Only oher option I would consider is 4-GW or AW... NOT 4-SW... a GW/AW will have a loft around 50-52, while a SW will likely be 56... meaning your set will likely be 9i (42*) PW(46*) then either a proper 3-5* gap or a huge one if you go with SW. Don't get me wrong, you could still fill that gap with another wedge, but then you will likely have a non set matching wedge in a gap between two wedges that go with the set... it just wouldn't make sense.

that's pretty cool... man I sure do miss my weekly poker game! I pretty much bet on everything I can... not a lot, but I definatelt enjoy gambling. Reminds me of those commercials... "cheese makes everything better", just replace "cheese" with "gambling".

hybrids... as everyone has said, they are easier to hit and will help MOST golfers. For me, I hit 3-4 irons fine, but I can do more with a 3 hybrid than a 3-iron, plus it lands MUCH softer. 2-iron I cannot hit... thus I carry a 2, and 3 hybrid, but keep the 4 iron in the bag since I hit it well, plenty high, and still like using it over a hybrid for tree trouble and such.

good stuff, much better than watching college football, although I am glad Penn State won.

for me... it is difficult to stay interested when there is NO money on the line, but obviously that would be difficult with our group. If I end up playing in another one for money (on Yahoo) I'll probably jump in this one... I fgure I'll be checking on the one anyway, not too much extra effort to monitor both.

how can you hate links courses? I miss playing the couple links courses I used to play in Michigan and Ohio... they have a few immitations in NC, but nothing that actually plays even close to a links course. A true links course is a real treat. I completely disagree too... the Fazio course is great.

paid $30 for 2 in IMAX 3D and it was enjoyable. Great effects... OK plot, as others have said, the world was very impressive, but the plot was a little cliche. It is worth seeing in 3D if you can. question: anyone know how regular 3D differs from IMAX 3D... this was the first 3D movie I've seen in a long time and it seems like the technology is getting much better.

I can only say that I love my Adams clubs... the brand really took me by suprise as I was not considering them when I first started looking for clubs. The one's I bought felt as good as anything else I was trying, and in my opinion looked the best... se here I am two years later and I'm still very happy with my irons (and hybrids for that matter). Bottom line is you just have to go with your gut.

Just wanted to revive this thread to say... I just ordered a copy from Amazon for $13 including shipping a few days ago. I will post my thoughts after I watch it. Also... anyone read the book as well... advantage to having both?
-
I think I like GOLF a little better, but I subscribe to both... I am also getting Golf World free right now... and it is pretty interesting... less BS and tips, more "people" coverage. I could really care less about the tips... I like the stories, interviews, equipment, and otherwise.

the only courses I have played (and really liked) or have heard good things about are... Caledonia and True Blue are top notch... especially Caledonia 4 Legends courses are supposed to be good... and Oyster Bay All the Barefoot Resort courses are good... especially Love course The Witch is a nice less expensive course
-
yeah... that's the thing. Right now I don't have the expendable income to justify $500 for a round of golf... but someday I will and when I do I will pay it. However, $500 is just about as much as I could justify regardless of the course (sure I might pay more for Augusta)... That being said... I think there are a handful of $100-$200 courses that are as stunning as Pebble and would be just as fun to play. I think it is all relevent... to a guy making six figures $500 is less significant than it would be to a college student or lower income person.
