  1. I go the membership route. But most decent courses in the area are minimum $65.
  2. I'm not sure about that, I just heard an AP story that GC has suspended her for 2 weeks. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...s171924S52.DTL
  3. Tin Cup is up there. I think Cheech's character said it best... Romeo Posar: "Look, boss, I only got one rule. And that's never bet money that you don't have on a dog race with an ex-girlfriend who happens to be a stripper."
  4. I have also used these two sellers and been happy.
  5. This is a great post that I find highly entertaining! It confirms what I believed already, that most, or at least many, golfers are (on some level) very analytical, organized, structured personalities. Your poll results scream this fact. Well done! BCA
  6. I kind of agree with Big M here. I think the answer is it depends on the player (and the driver selected). When I started playing the game I didn't even use woods period. I hit 3 iron off every tee. In the first 4 years I went from ~22 to mid/upper teens in handicap, still with no woods. The members I played with kept urging me, you have to hit woods (incl driver). At last they convinced me and I started with a 3 wood. The driver came shortly afterwards. Greatest decision ever, for me . This is all while handicap is in the mid teens, so again, I also believe it depends.
  7. My friend's brother bought them last year. I was surprised only b/c Mizuno says the MX series is supposedly game-improvement (the MP series is supposed to be game enhancement)..anyway, he's in the 6-8 handicap range so I thought he'd opt for an MP iron, but he loves the 900s and hits them great. I've played with him to verify too :)
  8. Good call, I think you'll be happy. Hitting certain shots and pulling them off is always fun, but without exception, I have found shooting lower scores consistently is more fun. :)
  9. I have heard the Tour pros on TV suggest that only highly skilled amateurs use high loft wedges (e.g. 60*) and have gotten the same info from two Senior Tour candidates I know. It is a high risk shot with slim error margin and unless you practice it all the time, and have that shot come up in your game, there's no need. I actual rarely hit my 60*, most times it's not even in the bag. Almost always I have found there's another style shot to hit that is more likely to bring better outcome (bump n run, pitch, etc.). Good luck either way!

    The Masters

My friend got them that way in 06, and we went for practice rounds.

    The Masters

    1. I attened in 06 (just a practice round, but while not seeing the actual tournament, there were MUCH less people and I got to see the course, which is really what I was interested in) 2. Not this year, but hopefully again 3. Haven't played, and yes this is THE course I'd like to play. Of course, odds are impossible to say the least.
  12. Are you trying to anger me talking about HD programming :) I have a smaller provider (Charter) outside Boston. GC and Versus are separate channels and neither come in HD here. Even closer to Boston where Comcast is provider, I know they do not have GC in HD, unsure of Vs. I have to go now, it's time for my daily scathing email/phone call to me cable company of their pathetic service.
  13. Ok folks, I just knew that her comment would surface into the media, which is why was looking for the tape and asking if anyone else saw it either live or Tivo'd. This will be my last post on this thread, because I do not want anyone to get the wrong idea or be offended by this topic in general. And as someone has said, perhaps despite the golf link, this sort of topic does not belong in this forum. Having said that here is the link . As I've stated I like Kelly and Nick together on TV, it seems to be funny and entertaining at times. And from my perspective, I seriously doubt that she meant it the way it sounds...again I can't imagine being on TV and have to talk for 5 hrs coming up with new things to say all day. We do live, sadly, in a world where media and others hang on every word waiting to get you in trouble for unintentional or innocuous statements. I do hope there is no fallout for her and our sake. Lastly, while appreciate all the post and comments, this will be my last. Thanks
  14. At least you can play in MO in the winter, we don't really play much in wintertime here..just too much snow, ice and cold. The aeration, again outside of official events where local rules apply, I've always with friends, etc..allowed moving the ball only to get out of an aeration hole that a ball may sit in, this means you move the ball left or right, and it ends up being no more than 2 inches...but you still of course have to putt thru all the holes and bumps..etc.. Again, you have to play by the rules, eventhough many dont' make sense. Last year I was playing in a club tourney with friends/members etc.. It was flighted by handicap and was medal play. On the 5th hole I had a 10 footer for bird and just missed it. The ball was no more than 10 inches away [while some may think this is far, i can honestly say i have missed it in my life] in disgust from the missed putt, I walked up an raked the ball away. One of my competitors in the group with me says to me walking off the green, "you know you have to put those in the hole." I thought about it and just told him, I would X the event and DQ myself, rather than cause any problems, he quickly said No no..just don't do it again, and I just DQ'd..it was easier to live with in my mind. Of course I know you don't do those things...stupid mistake
  15. Lemay, I hear you. I have played the last at least 6 years at a course that is not well kept, fairways/tees are worse than the 1st cut at other places, nevermind our rough. Both have bare patches and holes... big holes. The traps are overfilled with sand some places and bare ass in other places. Due to this, our Sweeps group adopted group rules. Up in traps, and up in your own fairway. Down everywhere else. When I'd play other places with other groups of guys/friends, I always would move the ball by these rules and get looks from them, not to mention State Am events where I caught myself just before doing it. Bottom-line, it's a bad habit to have, but especially if you ever play in events (like State Am events) where you play by rules of golf. While still a bad habit, if you only play with friends, or like my Sweeps group where all are agreed, then don't worry b/c you're just taking the lie you earned in a sense within the grip length. The worst lies the Pros get in fairways is in another's divot and that lie is generally WAY better than the junk I play from...
  16. To JayB and others: I'm sorry if your sensibilities were offended. It was not my intention to offend anyone, nor did I believe I wrote anything offensive in language or meaning...and last I checked this was a forum for discussion and points of view. So I wanted to know 1) if anyone heard what I did and 2) get your opinion on it. If you have not even heard/seen the video/audio of it, I don't know how you can have an full opinion just solely based on what I remembered and posted. She said what she said, I simply am relaying it. Not surprised btw, that there is lots of video of the weekend with her and Faldo, but none from the Friday round recap.
  17. Yeah that was funny, the wit some of those guys have on the spot is great..I'm trying to remember some other good quotes from years past...
  18. Golfchief, I am not taking her comments out of context, in fact I intentionally tried to provide the context of the statement in my post, so to give a clear picture of what she said. Nor am I trying to drum up any useless negative banter, I am simply curious if anyone else heard it, so far I can't find anyone who has. There isn't a doubt in my mind that she did not intent for it to sound negative/racial or what have you, but at the end of the day, she is responsible for what she says on air. I know what I heard and while I wasn't offended, or even close, I will be very surprised if there are zero people who were offended. The only thing they have in their favor is it's the first event of the year, and fewer people would tune in say compared to the TPC in May. I'm still researching to find a video clip to post so others can at least see it, as I said, so far no one appears to have seen it on this board other than me. Stay tuned..
  19. oh she said it, b/c I replayed the DVR several times just to make sure I heard right. I have no doubt that it wasn't intentional at all...I can't even imagine what it's like to sit there an be mic'd for 5 hrs coming up with new stuff to say all the time. That said people have been reprimanded/fired for less, so I was just curious if anyone else heard it live like me.
  20. If I may, allow me to introduce Miss Anna Rawson.....
  21. Did anyone catch the comment Kelly Tilghman made last night just before the telecast ended? Her and Faldo were discussing the young players taking on Tiger this year (right after Dottie's interview with Watney) , but trying to make an analogy about all the young guys 'fighting' Tiger for the season, she said something to the affect of 'them ganging up and lynching him in the back alley'. Don't quote me, but it was something very close to that.. Just curious if anyone else caught it, or if there will be super-over-reaction fallout from this for her?
  22. Badds said that MacG just stopped paying him w/o any warning at all..he tried to work it out, but got no response. Late last year he started taking their equip out of the bag and trying other stuff..
  23. I heard from a golf writer I know that Rory signed with Adams too. Sounds like Tiger took care of him blowing off the Target event...lol
  24. LOL, yes I'm with you. If you aren't following the Rules of Golf, you're not playing golf. Maybe your 'Hitting a Golf Ball on the Course" - yes, call it that from now on please my friend from AR..
  25. I have found Ebay to be great. Good selection, even with lefty stuff, and prices are great. You have to be diligent with who you buy from, but once you find the good sellers, just favorite them and repeat biz them later.
