Which type of face is best for distance control
marpr replied to Smilesy's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I think the ball has just as much a part in distance control as the face composition. -
(in my opinion/experience) Most definately the Bridgestone E6+. I think the pinnacle gold (?) is a great non-spin ball too.

Basically to cut costs and increase/maintain profit margin, Callaway introduced the uniflex steel shaft which, ive been told is (yes you guessed it) halfway between a regular and stiff flex shafts with subtle step variations through the club. ive actually never hit them. im of the belief that: if your good enough and can notice the flex, your probably looking at inserting a better shaft.

If your playing off that handicap and still want to stay with the Hogans, i would strongely suggest the APEX forged blades. You can pick up at NEW set for

I was playing a quick fire (back) 9 holes on my local. It was quite a windy afternoon, so instead of hitting my usual 5 iron, i decided to choke-down on my 3 iron. I hit it so flush, lower boring trajectory with a touch of fade cutting/resisting into the strong right to left. Landed 1-2 yards off the green, roled right up into the whole. The best thing about it, a group of 4 called me on and they were going nuts! That was the first time i actually hit that 3 iron in a round! Last time I had an ace was about 10 years ago in a junior comp when i was 15/16! nb: i actually hit a double bogey 7 on the next par 5 hole. haha!

Par 4 on my local. Hole is about 350 yards with a very narrow entrance to green. I almost always lay up. But, with a 20 km an hour wind i went for it. There is a bunker in front and a huge bunker wrapping around the right-hand-side of the green. I bombed my drive and it looked like it went into the bunker to the right. I was so happy i hit it that far. Upon closer inspection, the ball had plugged right behind the bunker. I took out my LW and flopped it within 2 inches of the hole. As i turned around to my bag, it rolled in for an eagle. Best non-par 3 hole ever.

I would suggest the Bridgestones, J36 in pocket cavity!

Your swing looks good. However IMO! One major thing: TEMPO. From all your vids, your too out of rhythm. Your backswing/take away seems quite smooth, then its a quick turn-around, then a long/extended slow follow-through. Try and work on your rhythm, you will find that you will get more consistant results.

Forgiving Drivers for Intermediate Players
marpr replied to denver_nuggs_15's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
touche! haha. i would recommend most intermediate players try to put a square driver in the bag and not be pulled/pushed towards long (and less forgving) drivers such as the R7. As intermediate players should be concentrating 100% on accuracy and not distance. i Would rather be 220 yards on the fairway rather than 300 in the trees. -
Putter Length? 33" or 34" or ..
marpr replied to nutsnbolts's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Putter choice/length is probably one of most personal choices in golf. Personally, I used to use a 35 inch putter my whole life (im just at 6 foot and 26), until i tried the same putter in a pro shop and it was amazing what an inch off made. It allowed me to make a smoother stroke and minimised my issues with the swing transition. More of a true pendulum motion. I have been playing with 34's for the past 2 seasons and my putting has improved out-of-sight. This is just my experience. The best way to determine would be to go to your local proshop and pick up a similar putter head to what you are looking at getting (ie, if you looking at buying a ping anser-style putter, dont pick up an Odyssey 2-ball). usually, with popular models, they will have a few different shaft lengths. I would certainly try comparing 34 to a 35, or even a 33. I hope this helps -
Which of these titliest drivers would you recommend?
marpr replied to King Cobra II's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have the both the d1 and d2 that a swap for each of my two home courses. I would suggest the d1. With that swing speed and handicap, it might be worth going for something a touch more forgiving than the d2 and certainly the 905. -
How do you mark your Titleist(or any other golf ball)?
marpr replied to WTCC_golf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I mark my ball > with a Red and Green dot next to each other, under each logo. -
I may be going crazy... but driver losing its pop?
marpr replied to dragonflyin's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have never heard of this ever happening. From the symptoms you described (and the fact that your hitting your wood further), i would lean towards a structural fault with the driver. As another member commented, i would submerge the driver in water to see if there is a minute crack somewhere on the crown/base. failing that > you could always buy a new one! any excuse to bomb a few at your local store! -
Hi, I have played DG S300's for the past 6-7 (maybe 8...) seasons. I know no different. I guess my game has grown with them! I have heard of great things (from club pros, store/sales reps etc) about the project x's (and even from Nippon). But I haven't tried fitting them to one of my sets. I have only hit them at demo's and they seem a great shaft. My brother has 6.0's in his Pings, and he loves them. I guess im just happy with my current set-up etc.

I couldn't agree more.

I think that cricket is the hardest sport. Like baseball, however, trying to hit a ball (just as hard as a baseball) going 100 Miles an hour, after it bounces. Not only are you trying to find the right line to hit the ball, you have to be able to try and predict the way the ball will react of the wicket/ground!

Try the Jumbo Winn Excell AVS. It is a jumbo grip, but offers great touch/feel. I have found it allows me to create a better stroke without my wrists breaking. I have also used the 2-thumb and Superstroke, but have found that from 15 feet out, it is hard to get nice feel.
