If you believe the New York Times or The Guardian (UK), the offer has not yet been made but is being strongly considered. Articles are from yesterday (11/16) and today (11/17) respectively.

First of all let me say that if this is too off topic, let me know and I'll start a new thread. My sister is getting married in October and all of the guys are having a golf outing that weekend. I would like to get some cigars for us all to enjoy while we play. I'm not much of a cigar smoker so I thought I'd ask for some advice from the more seasoned smokers out there. I am looking for a mild to medium cigar (we are playing in the early morning) that I can get 15-20 of for approx. $50. Any reccomendations for me to look into? Thanks, I appreciate your help.

I was given a skycaddie and find it very helpful. While I got along just fine using course markings I find gps helpful as there are not very many markings in the rough (which is where I tend to find myself). I think a laser would serve the same purpose but I am not really at the point where I am aiming at flags. I've got more of a get it on the green type of game and for that the front/middle/back yardages provided by gps work just fine.

I use the 6-8 iron all the time as opposed to a lob or sand wedge so long as there are no obstacles between me and the green. I am not yet consistent enough to confidently get a shot up in the air and have it land where I want it. Running the ball up onto the green ensures that at least I am on the green. I'm also in a position where being told that such a shot is 'improper' doesn't bother me because most of by lob shots look pretty improper as well. I say do what works.

I prefer to walk here in the flat mid-south but when I go home to the mountains I need a cart to survive the ups and downs of the terrain. However, I think if I had a push/pull cart the mountains would be walkable. Also, it's hard to justify paying the cart fees when I am able to walk.

- Consistently follow up one good shot with another. - Make sure no shots are so bad that I'm hitting the same club for the next shot. - Relax. - Keep having fun. - Keep improving.

Here is a 2007 link of the best handicaps among professional athletes. There are many baseball and hockey players on the list. Not that getting a good golf swing would be easy for a baseball player, but it obviously can be done.

Just wanted to give some positive remarks for the customer service folks at cynical peak. I gave Scorecard as a gift to my dad and they were very cooperative in providing me with a license in his name. They also emailed me the steps of downloading the correct version and burning it for him since I'm on a mac and he has a pc. All emails were answered in less than 24 hrs and fully answered my questions. I don't have Scorecard just yet but with customer service I don't see how the product won't succeed. So, in addition to all the benefits Scorecard offers over free online programs, $30 buys you real people who know how to answer your questions.

What does your CLOTHING say about you?
mphsglf replied to TheGolfingDetective's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
While I don't have a personal problem with people wearing jeans, I don't wear them. One time at the driving range was enough for me to realize that jeans are too hot and just plain uncomfortable to swing in. I think a small part of me also thinks that if I look good I'll play good but I haven't seemed to be able to make that connection. -
I play around with almost golf balls and find them to have a pretty accurate ball flight. My only complaint is that after hitting them and then hitting a real golf ball, the real ball feels very heavy and is a bit of a shock to the hands.

Golf #51 on ESPN's List of Hardest Sports
mphsglf replied to twotacosfor99cents's topic in Golf Talk
While I think I understand your point, I don't really agree with it. First, golf is more than just hitting the ball. You have to actually get it in the hole. Hitting a golf ball 'generally where you aim it' and getting a ball 400 yards onto a green and into the hole are two very different things. Just like making contact with a baseball and actually getting it out of the infield are two very different things. The initial skills required to do many of the sports listed (throw/catch a football, do a cartwheel, snow ski, etc.) are quickly picked up. While I understand that it is extremely difficult to hit a baseball with a bat, I don't think the 'initial learning curve' theory holds water. -
I believe... that a low handicap is overrated I believe... that I want a lower handicap I believe... that many golfers think they are better than they actually are I believe... that many golfers think they are worse than they actually are I believe... that you could give some golfers every club/shaft/loft/etc. combination in the world and they would still be looking for new equipment I believe... that some golfers could have a custom set of clubs built by the best clubmaker in the world and he/she would still wonder if a buddy's new off-the-shelf driver would hit it farther/straighter/etc. I believe... that the above said golfer would then abandon the custom driver and go buy a new one I believe... that one of the hardest things to do in golf is to put away the driver and practice the short game I believe... that I need to get better at game management and the mental aspect of golf

I am new to golf and one of the things I am trying to work on is my tempo. I was wondering if anyone out there uses (or used) a metronome to help practice tempo? If so, do you use a regular metronome or one specifically marketed to golfers? Which one? Did it help regulate your tempo? Thanks for the help

Graphite or Steel shafts for irons??
mphsglf replied to mphsglf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
One follow up question. I will likely get a hybrid to replace the long iron(s). I will discuss this with the fitter but do ya'll play steel shafts in your hybrids too? Thanks again for the input, I appreciate it -
Graphite or Steel shafts for irons??
mphsglf replied to mphsglf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I do plan on going to Golfsmith to get fitted. I just wanted to have an idea of what I was talking about and get the opinion of some people who are not trying to sell me anything. Thanks for the advice -
I am soon going to be looking for new irons and I would like your opinions as to what type of shafts I should look for. I am currently a 21 handicap with a swing speed of 85mph (with steel shafts). I am not concerned with working the ball but instead would just like to get the ball straight, high, and far. I have talked to some people who say that I need steel shafts for a better "feel" and others who say to increase swing speed, I need graphite. Any advice or suggestions? Thanks
