Which TaylorMade M-Series Driver?
Lihu replied to Double Drops's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I don’t think either of these attributes are good for me. 😂 The fitter of my new driver cranked my loft down to 8.5 degrees because I launch too high. I wanted a shiny new Ping or TM M6 but he told me the M6 launched too high and M5 was giving me 1600rpm side spin with 4800 back. Of course, there was masking tape over the face...Some shots looked like a slightly longer 6i shot with Ping whatever I used... Ended up with an TA Atomic PX5.5 8.5 degrees. Still hit too spinny and high on more than half my shots 22degree launch and over 4000 to 5500rpm, but my good ones look really good when watching the ball flight on the range and course. Mevo results, not so great, but working on it. Thanks for this thread OP, I was going to go to Roger Dunn’s for a proper TM M6 fitting, but not so sure it would help me? -
So my range is about 137.2 to 141.5 On the under 2900rpm hits that is... Got one up to 5500 1.26 SF 😂

Correction range is not 139 to 142 on 2900rpm or less shots. 138-140 average 2800rpm...
-
Possibly, but IDK... My average these last couple days is about 139-142 with pre-soaked range balls when my spin is down. When my spin is up there’s no doubt that I’m really glancing off the face. Next time I’m on the range or whenever I can do it right, I’ll take a contiguous set of 10 readings to record my progress with this new driver. I want to get those high spin ones out before attempting that again so I can have a nice before and after set of readings. My new driver is starting to hit great thanks to Mevo helping me temper down spin and launch. Only Mevo can tell me those numbers. Watching ball flight without a LM is so passé.

His whole world was smash factor when he was in Canadian Long Drive 😂 Was a minor league pitcher out of college... Yeah, there’s so much going on I’d guess some measurements are going to be off. Overall, I still like my Mevo and use it quite a bit. Just not for SF nor ball speed especially when the balls are wet...
-
I’ve heard this, but its still perplexing given the radar signal from a club head is like 20 times larger than the ball. 🧐 Very strange. Radar can measure both directly. Given they’re Doppler sensors, the processing is probably time domain and they might use machine learning to calculate velocity at impact? Who knows? But I never really pay attention to the absolute numbers. Just use it as a gauge. I’m on a physical range with rangefinders and a light prevailing wind into my face. There’s an opposing driving range with that same wind at your back and you’re “restricted” to 260 carry clubs...The targets are all measured within a yard. So, it’s really easy to see exactly hit far a ball goes, and there are plenty of OCD players who watch how far everyone else hits then report it ... 😂 Not too worried about my absolute SF so much as what it means to my impact. The best SF my world class ball striker friend got on my Mevo was like 1.38. On the XL two stalls over we were getting higher club head speeds and higher SF consistent with the distances we seem to be hitting. That all said, if I’m dropping 0.1 from one club versus another I’m going with the higher one for a better fit and my peak best would be “calibrated” at 1.38

Come to think of it, my Mevo has never reported SF very well. Just attributed it to the unit? My SS on Trackman and my friend’s XL reads a couple to a few percent higher than on my Mevo...and my typical SF is a lot higher 1.47 with driver with a few at 1.49. Ball speeds a lot higher too. Here’s some readings from an ex-pro LD friend. Said he was striking as solid as he could. He said his normal SS is 133... That last drive was mine... was swinging much faster than I normally would... I use my Mevo more for training anyway. All the readings are very self consistent, so I never use absolutes with it. For instance 120mph SS on a driver and 102 with a 6i will read 125 and 106 on Trackman for my son and I’ll read 100/89 On Mevo and 104/92 on Trackman. Never seen SF numbers above 1.4 off my Mevo though. I consider 1.38 my 1.5 with range balls

This is one of three drivers hit a couple days later, two were mishit? Looks a lot better, but it was a middle strike. Pretty much as good as I could hit it. Seemed to carry the 240 yard flag. My range buddy told me he saw it fly that hill... not sure because I couldn’t see from my angle. I should say not mishit, but had low SF...
-
True... and that shot was around 4000 rpm... definitely mishit...
-
Who knows? They feel solid enough and the ball goes far enough. No idea why they show up so low a SM? How much does using old and soaked range balls affect SF? Totally possible that the Mevo, Trackman and XL are all measuring my SS too high? Could be my swing too? Maybe flipping or whatever? New driver...Not used to it yet? Any or all of the above? Yeah, that’s about what I do at 700 feet elevation with a regular golf ball, but, truthfully, I just started using a driver again. My typical drive is from 240-270 total distance these days depending upon how well I strike and how much spin... my PW flies about 122 based upon my approach using ARCOS and typically stops within a couple to a few yards...if I hit the green All good questions, and definitely looking to improve things

I suppose if his initials are on both balls 😂 I would still give him a 2 on that hole though. Serves him right next tournament when he has to play the A flight 😂😂😂

“Intent”- difficult to prove. Half the time, come on, be nice to us

Yips, I agree are mental, but what gives you the yips is possibly physical like having sore muscles or whatever. I’ve gotten yips putting or chipping many times. We score about the same on my good rounds and my best and worst days playing vary because of good or bad mechanics. I could shoot low 80s one day and mid 90s the next, and the cause is generally because I’m not striking as well. More shanks and such. The only thing that helps me is proper and focused practice back on the range.
-
What I mean is books like this are likely intended for more advanced players who already have decent swing mechanics. Assuming that you get the first 95% of the game which is physically trained, then this last 5% of the game would be all mental. Something like that, I suppose? I read a couple chapters and descriptions on line before posting, so I was actually attempting to comment on the book a bit. Seems like this last 5%-ish part of the game is very personal. Basically, whatever works for you is “good” 😊
-
Golf is a target oriented sport because we’re targeting a tiny hole hundreds of yards away? If you take focus away from your body when you’re starting golf, there’s less chance to develop good swing mechanics? Every time you go to the range to practice you’d focus on the inner self and your body mechanics and on the course focus on the target? If that makes sense?
-
It's possibly not just the walking after 18 holes that made the biggest difference? A golf swing at your maximum performance will take a lot out of you done 50-ish times as well?
-
Started in 40s like all one the person who voted so far. I could still walk every day but I’d think it would get really boring after a couple years of this... oh yeah, I did I still play once or twice a week, hit the range every other day and hike 3 days a week up a local mountain. Actually, just the trail up to it. We don’t hike all the way up it...

Two Players Penalized at LPGA Q-Series for Not Knowing Rule
Lihu replied to RemyM's topic in Rules of Golf
Agree that this is hilarious! Imagine running a stop sign then the cops have to call it in and take an hour to decide if you broke the law or not? 😁 Kim might have just been waiting for the two players to give themselves the penalty, and waited until they were finalizing their scores before mentioning they violated the rule? It’s like when I play, I don’t say anything unless there’s other people to protect? Kind of feel like that’s the norm for most as well? -
Check Out this Fake TaylorMade Driver
Lihu replied to ChetlovesMer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
He said that if he didn’t have the original next to the fake, it could be difficult to tell. Given most men don’t carry more than 180, it probably works just as well as any driver? So, the only think I can think is those vanity players who want to “look” like they’re playing the real thing? -
Trump Courses - Would You Pay to Play One Now?
Lihu replied to metaswinger's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
If I was invited to play one, they’re probably really expensive and difficult to schedule by now. They were really exclusive before, now they’re elite. -
Not flipping, but I was coming up about 8degrees. Changed that and stood higher. With the same 1.34-ish SM was consistently getting my 224 carry with 2800rpm 100mph swing with Mevo. The balls were clearing the 240 flag, but I’m at 700 feet elevation and slightly more humid air. Will check TrackMan numbers next week, Mevo is probably still low by a couple percent... So, in the end the driver is pretty decent. Didn’t really have to swing that hard and the balls went really straight. Guess the GG fitter knew his stuff after all 😁
