Impressive, but I feel bad for the greenskeeper who gets to try to fix the spike marks they lefts as they ran and jumped around to celebrate.

I think he means $700 for a full set, not just the irons. If this is the case, I personally have the Eye 2's and would recommend them to people who are just beginning. They are pretty forgiving as well as not looking as terrible as the G20's. They're aren't pretty, but at least the sole of your 7 irons isn't 2 inches from face to back (can't stand the new ping G series irons, so fat and chunky).

Importance of Acceleration Thru Impact
Audaxi replied to divot dave's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Catching up with hands doesn't necessarily mean maximum speed. Also, that swing is Tiger hitting a "stinger", not a normal shot, which is why his hands are so far forward -
Importance of Acceleration Thru Impact
Audaxi replied to divot dave's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I think he confused the idea of accelerating through impact accelerating INTO impact. They sound the same when you read about them, but are completely different. -
I agree with apotheosis. Unless there is a gap of 20 or more yards between clubs, there's nothing worth filling with another club.

As I was at the range earlier today, I was thinking about videotaping my swing to create a "My Swing" thread, but I thought of something important: I have no clue of the best way to go about this. I have an iPod with a camera that I use for music, as well as a digital camera, and my instructor uses an iPad occasionally to show me something in my swing. However, I'm unsure of whether I should use the iPod or the camera, as well as which angles are best to record from. Would a video from a front angle and directly behind be most useful, or should you offset the camera slightly either direction? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Too much weight at the front foot (Impact)?
Audaxi replied to Golfprofi1234's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Adding to what Iacas has mentioned, just feel like you lower body moves towards the target (which carries your weight there) while your head remains at or slightly behind the ball into impact. Looking at the picture, and reading your analysis, it sounds like you have a fairly good understanding of the swing, so think of the followthrough being what carries your head forward into the finish position rather than the weight shift. -
Importance of Acceleration Thru Impact
Audaxi replied to divot dave's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
This is a very good explanation, but to put it in simpler terms and something you can try to incorporate into your swing: The moment of impact is a lot later than you would think, so the feeling of swinging the fastest right after impact is probably best for the majority of people. Once you start hitting top SS at impact, just focus more on maintaining that feeling throughout your clubs. -
My best excuse was when I was in a tournament, and they actually let me redo my shot. The city I live in has tornado sirens on every golf course, as well as around town, and they just so happened to begin a test of them as I was swinging, causing me to shank one onto the railroad tracks. The rulekeeper was pretty cool about it though, after he and my playing partners stopped laughing, and I was able to retake the stroke.

For me, it has everything to do with not being able to make birdies with any sort of consistency. You can make pars all you like, but you will make at least 1 bogey per round more often than not, and I seem to be unable to offset them with birdies.

Looks to me like he's using a Titleist 3-wood, likely a Titleist driver, and possibly still some Mizuno's for his irons. Might be some Titleist MB's though. Edit: Found this website, and it turns out he only used a Nike ball during the 2000 season, with no other Nike equipment besides apparel. http://golf.about.com/od/tigerwoods/f/tiger-woods-clubs.htm

I like my Eye 2's forgiveness, but it's a little too much for me to make a lot of progress anymore, which is why I'm looking for more of a blade iron to get some added feel and feedback on shots. The Eye 2 just doesn't give any feedback because it goes pretty smooth wherever you hit it on the face, you really have to feel for it.

Is there something off about my distances?
Audaxi replied to tuffluck's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The numbers look fine for you. Perhaps a little low on the 4-iron, as others have stated, but not bad at all if they're consistent. And to reassure you that your buddy isn't this great amazing guy, the only good/great player I know of that hits a PW 150 is Bubba Watson, and it was when he delofted it to an 8 iron during the Masters and hooked it 30 yards onto the green. It's likely that you buddy just delofts his PW to an extreme degree, except that he does it consistently, or he could just have much better ball striking (a lot less likely), or a combo of the two. -
Tiger Woods' Old Swing vs. Rory McIlroy's Swing?
Audaxi replied to Kevin18's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Something new I noticed is that Tiger's right (I think, it's behind him when viewed from behind) arm is tucked in closer at the top, and Tiger also begins the rotation of his hips earlier in the swing. -
I would feel fine with this if you had hard proof that they stole from you, and you took it back with their knowledge. Just take the evidence to them, and attempt to reclaim your property. If that doesn't work, then contact the authorities.

So, does this club's MOI increase with the added weight as the round goes by, or do all the fluids stay in the grip?
-
I think it happens to everyone. I had a period of time this past summer where I was shooting low 80's and high 70's very consistently, but on the range I looked like I had just picked up a club for the first time. I'm not sure what it was, besides a mental aspect of knowing that it really doesn't matter on the range, but it was frustrating when I tried to work on my swing before or after a round.

In some cases that is true, like if its a penny that someone dropped, but not in others. Not sure what kind of situation he meant by this though.

125 mph Swing Speed Driver Help!
Audaxi replied to HackerUpNorth's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I would say that it would probably be the best thing you could do for yourself. As your swing starts to become patterned and more consistent, you will be able to swing the driver with more confidence and control. I played the first few years of golf without buying a driver, mainly because I had a set that came without it and I was cheap, but mostly because I could hardly hit the 3 wood for a while, so why step up from there? It seems like you just need to work on straightening out the driver before you'd feel good about using it on the course, so I would definitely recommend at least trying this and seeing how it goes for you. If, however, you feel like you still would like to hit the driver on the course anyways, at least think about whether or not you need to hit a driver. For example, if it's less than a 400 yard par 4, why would you need a driver? With the distance you appear to hit, it would likely leave you with an awkward distance. On par 5's, where you can reach them in 2 with a solid drive, just weigh the risk against the reward, and remember that it's no fun having to go search for lost balls. -
125 mph Swing Speed Driver Help!
Audaxi replied to HackerUpNorth's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Then, by all means, keep on using the 3 wood. 290 yard drives are nice, and like you said here, you'd rather be 290 in the fairway than 310 in the next. Try leaving your driver at home for a few rounds, then let us know whether that turned out to be an improvement or if it was about the same as your other rounds. -
The Golf Swing is not intuitive.
Audaxi replied to VegasRenegade's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Exactly, but another factor to consider is the fact that you are not striking something with a straight stick. The face is offset, which I know throws off a lot of beginners. Whenever you were a kid, if you picked up a bent stick, it was always harder to hit something when you played pretend baseball, and its the same with an offset (not down the centerline of the shaft) face, compared to one that isn't. -
Here's an easy way to help see that the face contributes to the start line: You will need a pencil, pen, or marker, as well as a golf ball and a table. Set the golf ball at one end of the table, and use a pencil to make "strokes" through the ball. You will notice that the ball will start in almost the exact direction that the pencil is facing, regardless of the "swingpath" used. Alternatively, you can go to the practice green or your carpet, and try putting the golf ball with different face angles. A closed face gives you pulled putts, and an open face pushes them. Again, the line of the ball's roll will almost exactly mirror the angle of the clubface, regardless of swingpath. However, this overlooks the slight effect of swingpath on the starting direction of the ball, but you can see that effect if you make the difference between clubface and swingpath extreme. If you have a dramatically different angle, it then becomes apparent that the swingpath has slight control over the starting direction of the ball, but not much when you have a fairly straight swingpath.

I personally use a damp, but not dripping, towel on all of my clubs. I'm not sure if it would solve this issue, but I am positive it would be an improvement over just dipping the club in a bucket of water and scrubbing it. Just wipe the face and sole of the club well with the damp towel, then scrub with a brush if you like.

Need help deciding on irons?
Audaxi replied to Chrischorley's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
What clubs are you currently using, and what type of club are you looking to switch to? Super Game Improvement, Game Improvement, Cavity Back, Blade? The SGI irons are geared towards helping a beginner or someone with poorer ball striking get the ball in the air. GI irons (such as my Eye 2's) are designed to help the ball travel further and straighter on mishits, while assuming that the player has about average ball striking capabilities. Cavity Back irons are where you get into the "player's iron" category, with the cavity providing some extra forgiveness while retaining the overall same look as a blade. Blade irons are what pros generally use, and they are usually the hardest of the bunch to hit. Blades give you the most control over the ballflight, but are not designed with forgiveness in mind as much as other clubs. There is a gray area between GI irons and Cavity Back "player's" irons, but those are generally clumped together with the GI irons. In regards to the "HL" that are stamped on the clubs, this normally refers to them being "high launch" and thus easier to get in the air, which likely places them in a SGI or GI category, depending on the club.' Lastly, do you have any information about your swing, such as how you would subjectively rate your ball striking, your swing speed, and the shaft that is in the irons you currently use? These can all help you decide on what irons would work best for you.
