  1. So many nice courses up there. I've only played Great Blue at Heron Lakes though, which was FANTASTIC. I'd love to come up and play a late March twilight round at Pumpkin Ridge for $30 this year, cuz I'm cheap like that I've also heard really good things about Wildwood.
  2. Soooooo much better than 2009. The putting isn't absolutely perfect, but it doesn't make me scream in rage anymore which is a good thing. I swing with both hands as close to a normal golf grip as I can get. It works great!
  3. We may have different ideas about what constitutes wealthy, but I'm pretty sure the 75% of american households who make less than 75k a year don't see $500 rounds of golf as something they could possibly afford to do. Decadence according to the Oxford Concise Dictionary is a luxurious self-indulgence . I think $500 for 4 hours of golf fits that description. But hey, I'm not above the occasional indulgence in decadence. As you pointed out, I'm playing Bandon next week and even at $75 (down from regular season $250) is a "luxurious self-indulgence" to me. Even still, it's a LONG way from $500. It's just my opinion, mang
  4. It's an elite place to play. If you are wealthy and the money is not an object, and you don't wan't to be bothered by common people - I'm sure it is worth it to you. However, I think if you looked at other great courses, including truly great public courses that are far cheaper, the value won't scale objectively. I'll never pay $500 for a round of golf. In my opinion it's decadent.
  5. Makes me sad. Ben, I think we may have had this conversation before, but I was born in Ventura County and my grand parents were lifelong members at Saticoy. I remember going to holiday events/kids parties (esp 4th of July fireworks) at the country club. They offered me lessons at the club many times as a child, but I wan't interested then. Now that I'm 44 and only 3 years into this addiction called golf, I will always regret not taking those lessons and playing that course with them. I was just looking at my grandfather's old Macgregor Eye-O-Matic persimmon woods that I recently acquired as keepsakes today.
  6. I was in Henderson for Thanksgiving at my Father-in-law's and played two rounds at The Desert Willow executive course. I loved it. $40 for 18 holes with cart. I don't think you kind find a better deal in Vegas and the course is in GREAT shape. Probably not what your looking for, but if you want a round that will only take you about 3 hours and not break the bank, I highly recommend it. The only other course I've played there is the Concord @ The Revere Golf Club, which was fantastic, but more $ than I like to spend. For me the Desert Willow was a much better value. http://www.desertwillowlasvegas.com/
  7. I miss the days when I was 5 years old and rode in the truck bed with my brothers and the dog.
  8. Golfshot GPS on my iPhone 3GS - awesome, awesome app. And yes, there will be pics Thought about arranging a day to the Bally Bandon Sheep Ranch, but I think we'll save that for a future visit.
  9. Absolutely none taken - that was kind of my logic as well.
  10. Corvallis.
  11. Apparently you can 'share' a caddie - might see if my buddy is into doing that.
  12. I did it! Non-refundable tee-times booked. 10 days from now, this high-handicap hacker will be teeing off at one of the greatest golf courses in the world (so I'm told). Why am I already feeling first tee jitters? We chose Bandon Dunes because legend says it is both the most lenient and the most scenic. Even though we are getting the resident+winter discount rate of $75, this is still a lot of $ to me and I'm going to forgo the recommended caddy. $50+$25 tip = another round! I've never played with a caddy in my life, I have a hard time believing that this course is so mind-bogglingly more difficult than other top-notch course I've played, that it will make the difference between whether or not I enjoy my round. Am I that off base? Fellow Oregonians: Whose done the drive from Depoe Bay to Bandon? Google is telling me 3.5 hours, but despite the sometimes slow and curvy coastal hwy, I find it hard to believe it will take me 3.5 hours to drive a distance that would normally take me under 2. Excited!
  13. I'm tired of the Tiger Woods hoopla, and would just like to watch him play golf again. However, while I dislike the "fallen celebrity" obsession American media caters to, there is also something distasteful about Tiger's attitude. I think Bob Schieffer nails it:
  14. I've had this app for 2 weeks now on my new iPhone 3Gs and I absolutely love it. $29.99 is a bargain for for what it does (gps yardages, custom layup distances, score keeping, stats... it even emails you your scorecard when you are done. Love it! It even keeps score for a foursome!
  15. In order to put the ball where it was after removing the cigar, and have it stay, you would have had to glue it to the bunker wall. Seriously.
  16. I really thought there was a difference between something like a cigar butt and other 'natural' loose impediments. That cigar butt was not supposed to be in that bunker. There was no way to move it with out the ball moving. And it was an impossible shot with the ball where it was being held up on the lip by the butt.
  17. This weekend my buddy hit an approach into a green-side bunker on a par 5. When we get there, we find his ball is being held up against the lip by a 3 inch cigar butt. We weren't sure what the actual rule was, but I told him I was pretty sure it was an 'unnatural obstruction' and we all agreed he could remove it. He pulled it away, and the ball rolled down more toward the center of the bunker. We let him take his shot from there. Was that the right thing to do?
  18. Nope. This has happened too many times to too many people. I originally dealt with Medicus directly and made my order through Medicus all in good faith. The charge on my card was from Medicus. In my opinion, they are liars and thieves and not to be trusted. My credit card company denied the charge and put my card on hold, which was a hassle to get cleared up but ultimately I'm thankful for.
  19. Yeah, basically. Click the link above to read the stories from others... they are all pretty similar. I'm really bitterly disappointed by all this. I trusted that Medicus was an honest and respectable company based on the endorsements of people like Mike Weir, Hank Haney and Aaron Baddeley.
  20. A year and a half ago I bought a power hitter/ power meter bundle from Medicus. Yesterday morning, a $69 charge showed up from them on my credit card. Capitol One is apparently aware of the fraudulent nature of these charges because they froze my card. I also found out I'm far from alone: http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-800-761-2744 I'm furious. I called Medicus, and they claimed to know nothing about it and referred me to a company called "Golf Essentials". I called them and could not talk to a real person and got into an automated loop that made me uncomfortable with the information it was asking me for. So I called Medicus back to talk to a real person again. Basically they admitted they knew this was happening but refused to do anything about it, again referring me to "Golf Essentials". Why should I deal with Golf Essentials, when my original transaction was through Medicus and the charge on my card yesterday was from "Medicus"???? I'm tempted to write up a letter with this story and links to all the similar victims stories and send it to Mark O'Meara, Aaron Baddeley, Hank Haney and all the other professionals who have attached their name to this unethical company. But I doubt it would do much good. Anyone else? Sorry for the rant. I'm seething.
  21. Awesome! I'll be showing these to my daughter in short order. Thanks, ks8829.
  22. Thanks guys! When I picked him up from Daycare yesterday I was told he spent the afternoon practicing his golf swing with a plastic hammer and a wiffle ball. LOL. Even though it's a long way off for him, I'm kinda bummed about our local pros and their attitude to giving kids golf lessons. My daughter is 7 and I talked to them about lessons for her and they said the really would rather not instruct anyone younger than 9. Is that typical?
  23. Interesting. I tried this at lunch time with a shag bag full of balls. A little spotty, but when I thought about holding that backward wrist break and turning back and through with only the shoulders I hit a bunch of surprisingly good shots. lynchjo, you seem a little overly evangelical about this. Are you working for the publisher or the author? Still, very interesting... I'm going to play some more with this backward wrist break.
  24. Biggest refund ever. Already in the bank
  25. I'm a fan. I LOVE my near mint Wilson Gooseneck blades that I bought for $35 off craigslist. Probably because I love a great (awesome) deal and also because despite what every one says about blades being difficult, I hit them better than I did my Lynx cavity back hand-me downs. http://thesandtrap.com/forum/showthr...3Bgoto=newpost
