  1. Don't pick up your ball. - without informing your playing partner to identify it (not sure it's penalty strokes but it's good etiquette regardless) - when you're on a cart path before determining whether you actually want to drop wherever the "nearest point of relief" is - when you're in gimme range - don't forget this is real golf and every stroke is played until the ball is holed or the hole conceded Do keep an eye on your opponent but don't do it at the expense of hitting the shot in front of you with focus and confidence. Don't hit shots you wouldn't try during a routine round Do take your lumps and give yourself a good leave for your next stroke.
  2. I wonder how many people switch equipment then improve slightly. People change clubs within the same brand every day and nobody raises an eyebrow. Who cares which clubs he uses is my point? He's streaky already so why expect anything different? This may have been covered, but when does Tiger's deal expire? Was there any discussion of them as a package deal or Tiger would move on? BTW I was thinking about it and Sean Foley might be the second most famous Nike staffer right now - that dude really needs to wear a half size (or two) bigger though.
  3. Please don't do that with your other putter either. There must be red and blue putter states. When I saw the poll I wondered where are Cleveland, Odyssey, See More, Wilson Staff, etc?
  4. Why would I want to take a cart at Pebble Beach? If I did, why would I then want or need a caddie? Sounds like a cash grab to gobble up every last tourist dollar. On a links course with blind tee shots or strange routing I'd probably like a caddie, but Pebble beach isn't a links course with blind tee shots and a strange routing, is it?!?
  5. I read somewhere the factor is about 2.5. Clubhead speed multiplied by 2.5 is about where a properly struck drive should usually end up, including typical roll, which probably means it's not on a rock hard fairway with unusually far rollout. 280 / 2.5 = 112
  6. I use an R shafted driver a few times a year in tournaments (a couple "fun" holes where everyone uses the same driver and wears hockey gloves which probably a Canadian thing and during some scramble rounds when we have to trade drivers with someone for a certain hole). Without fail the ball starts farther right than normal (I play for a straight to draw ball flight with a driver) and never comes back. Like you I seem to be in the minority.
  7. Those sounds like very long drivers for seniors. As in longer than almost every amateur I've ever seen hitting from the forward tees. They'd be hitting par 5s in 2 on a regular basis.
  8. Does anyone one have an audio file of the click or a high def youtube video?
  9. I play a game improvement putter - a cavity back.
  10. Not every 56 can be opened up that way with a high degree of success. By that logic why would he need a 56 when a 54 could be opened up to 58+?
  11. Option 4 (or is it 5 now): - you like the 54. Get a new 54. A reliable 100.0 yard club is money. - add a 60. Really good wedge players (like professional grade wedge players) often go PW, 54, 60 (or something very close to that). 120, 100, and ~ 60-80 (where I project a 60 would be for you) is a good mix. You can't have a wedge for every possible distance or you'd have 10 wedges.
  12. I was responding to a post suggesting a specific website to find local playing partners. If he wants to test his mettle he should enter tournaments, not play casual rounds with similarly skilled people found via the internet.
  13. I've never associated Leonard with anything other than Ben Hogan and Duval with Titleist or even Scratch? Edit: I just googled Duval and there are quite a few pictures of him wearing Nike hats. And Nike for his British Open win. Guess I never did follow his career. Did see his name linked to Scratch, but they're not exactly a household name either.
  14. Duval? Leonard? What? If you want recent irrlevant Nike players there are Kim (as mentioned), Paul Casey, Lucas Glover, Stephen Ames, Schwarzel (great player but a "who dat?" in the US), Carl Pettersen (sp - see Schwarzel), and Suzann Pettersen who has the potential to dominate women's golf if she could ever make any putts!!
  15. Why the obssession with carry distance. Carry and rollout to 250 is more realistic. Obviously it isn't required by everyone on every course but people who can maintain a single digit index hitting less than 250 are either playing short courses or they're exceptionally accurate and good putters relative to the average player. Just like the "average" player might hit 230 the "average" player does not hit irons, wedges, or putts well enough to play single digit golf.
  16. Maybe his tees are too long.
  17. Maybe I'm a poser, but I could almost see myself playing the Tour version.
  18. It's not a sport like any other. One person hits the ball then casually strolls to it while another person carries all their equipment in a bag ill suited for 4+ hours of carrying. The player does maybe 20 minutes of actualy sporty activity during that period. The player is like a gentleman and the caddie is his non-person man servant. He even has to wear a bib with the player's name on it - he doesn't even have his own name on his back - now that's servitude.
  19. Sorry, but are you saying Rory is the second most marketable golfer in the world or athlete? Golfer probably (Mickelson and a couple others are still quite marketable too) but athlete? Would he even be in the top 20? Not sure - honest question.
  20. The ball doesn't know how whippy the shaft was. If the clubface meets the ball in such a way that hook spin or slice spin is imparted then a hook or a slice is the result. I have a quick transition and a compact swing. A whippy shaft results in pushes and push fades. Other players may hit that club and find it results in hooks. That's why someone should take another player's club or shaft recommendations with a grain of salt.
  21. I have a set with white GPNDMC grips. A damp towl mid-round is all they get. They're not as white as when first purchased, but that's the point. They were too white. If GP had those grips in black on black I'd have gone that route.
  22. You might want to leave that part out in future all knowing type posts.
  23. Played with a couple friends. One guy didn't have clubs so I brought him a set. The other guy wanted to begin taking it more seriously and had a full set of brand new boxed set clubs. The guy with my used set did better, plus he didn't have to waste anyone's time pulling plastic wrapping off his unhit clubs on the first tee. Yes that happened.
  24. Is that what he was looking for?
  25. Have you considered using standard terminology? Go to the OEM websites, they'll surely have sole width (or depth in your case) listed for all their current products.
