  1. Okay cool I did it right! Thanks sprinkler head!
  2. So today I hit an approach to a green that goes just over the back and I thought rolled down the slope on the other side. When I get to my ball it is actually right on the top of the hill at the start of the slope in a sprinkler head hole ~4 inches deep. I have no doubt that it would have gone down the hill if it wasn't for the hole. What should I have done? I dropped next to the sprinkler head right behind the fringe and putted, wound up 2 putting for par. Was that correct or should I have dropped at the bottom of the hill where the ball most likely would have wound up?
  3. I was just being honest, like I said if it was any kind of competitive setting or anything of that nature obviously I wouldn't do that. But if I'm playing by myself, I don't keep an official handicap or anything and that's probably what I would do. I don't see it as any different than when you hit extra shots when playing alone to try stuff
  4. I'll be honest, in your 2nd scenario I would have either re-teed without taking a stroke or dropped a ball where I thought my ball would be without taking a stroke. Of course this is assuming I am just playing for fun and am not going to submit the score or anything like that. If it happened in a competitive situation I assume the rule would be just like a ball OB
  5. Quote: I'll take the 180 yard 7 iron to 4 feet. This, pick a tour pro, give me his iron swing. If I have the iron swing of a tour pro than I won't need to short game of a tour pro. Since if those guys played the courses I play they would basically hit every green in regulation.
  6. Working on 2 big keys for my golf game. The first one is the 50-90 yards wedge shot, I have to get much better and more consistent with these shots. Right now It's all about distance control and a solid descending strike while keeping my weight forward. I've been going to the range and just hitting these shots over and over The other thing I'm working on is my take away, I generally make pretty good contact on all my full shots yet my accuracy is horrible, especially with my irons. I miss left and right, hook and slice, just all over the place it's very frustrating. I believe this is due to an inconsistent take away which gets my swing off my intended plane for the whole swing. I've been doing this drill where you put a golf ball behind your club face and begin your take away pushing the ball backwards. If the ball goes back and slightly inside you did it right, if it goes very inside, straight back, or away from you you did it wrong. I've actually been doing it with a wiffle ball bat and basketball at work :)
  7. Wow, that chart is awesome! I guess I need to buy some Chrome balls!
  8. I always try and warm up, mostly just so I can see what my swing is for that day. Am I going to draw it or fade it/am I skulling misses or hitting them fat, ect... Just so I know how to play shots on the course. Also I've recently started warming up with a 7 iron to start instead of a wedge, because the 7 iron is an easy enough club to hit to get loose, but also a high enough one so you have to think about shot shape and not just swinging away hitting the ball straight like a wedge. I've figured out if I do this I tend to have more control over my ball flight during the round. Also I try not to hit more than 25-30 balls, sometimes less
  9. Heck I'd be happy with a consistent miss. I guess that's my whole issue, if I play to fade it I'll hit an uncontrollable fade that basically is going sideways by the time it lands. If I aim to fade and think draw I'll usually hit a straight or maybe slight fade that works very well for me. When I get into trouble is when I play the draw and I actually draw it into the trees a few times, then I'm on the tee not knowing whether my next swing will be a draw or fade. It's really only an issue I deal with off the tee, and it's not all the time. I'm hoping this new thought will help me be more consistent off the tee therefore more consistent in my scores. Right now I'm as likely to shoot a 90+ as I am a 78
  10. Generally when my game is off I have trouble controlling my drives from fading, sometimes severely. I usually have to think of trying to draw the ball off the tee in order to keep it straight/control it. The problem with that is it's not consistent, I often over cook the draw trying to compensate and it goes way left, but I also still fade it too so it's hard to know what shot to play off of the tee. On the range today I found if I think about keeping my left shoulder down through my swing I can keep the ball pretty straight and control it. I think this thought is keeping me from turning my body off the ball thus hitting that fade. Does this seem like a legit swing thought, or was it just a quick fix for the day that won't work long term?
  11. Quote: So what is a 'pro level' baseball player? Well there are lots of independent pro leagues in the US that are not the MLB, maybe he played in one of those?
  12. Quote: Hogan told someone his "secret" was to hit the ball on the third groove. I think his real "secret" was that he was good enough to pick which groove he hit it off of...
  13. Put this way, I've been skiing 5 times, each time for 3-5 days, so we'll call that 20 days of skiing for 6 hours = 120 hours of skiing. On ski's I am able to go down most black diamonds I have come across, and can navigate through moguls pretty well. I have been playing golf since I was 9 or 10, and play or practice about twice a week for the past 4 years and I have broken into the 70's four times and still have a 10-12 handicap. Which do you think is easier? :)
  14. Maybe you have terrible hand eye coordination... Seriously though do you often miss there with Irons?
  15. Thanks man
  16. You hit that really thin
  17. Ok I see what you're saying, that makes sense. And I don't mean this as I'm opposed to changing my swing bc I'm not. I would like to think that my swing is a version of what the golf swing is supposed to look like. My thing is if you look at pros, or even look at the best players at your course; their swings aren't all exactly the same, everybody has a little something different. As long as your swing does the things with the club that it needs to do, and does it every time, you don't need a total swing redo to look like a swing simulator. I'm wide open to changing things in my swing, even altering it comepletely, as long as there is a reason. As long as whoever is helping can tell me "I'm moving your ______ here to help you with _______ problem". What I don't want is someone changing things in my stance to fix problems I don't have, just because that's what I'm supposed to do according to whatever
  18. I'm currently in the process of rehabbing my shoulder (shoulder displasia) and once I get it right I want to take some lessons. I still play a lot of golf with my injured shoulder but I want it to be better before I take lessons. Anyway, what I'm worried about is that if I get the wrong instructor he is just going to try and teach me a cookie cutter "one size fits all swing", I don't want that. I'm not saying my swing is perfect because it is FAR from it; but I am really looking for an instructor who will take the swing I've built and fix the flaws in it that cause me to be inconsistent. Someone who will tweak fundamental issues in my swing and use what I've already worked on and improve upon that, does that make sense? So for those of you that have taken, or given lessons, how likely am I to find an instructor like that? Or is every instructor going to have a set swing he thinks is right and try to force it on me?
  19. My goals are as follows: 1. continue physical therapy so my shoulder dysplasia is no longer a problem (should be accomplished by mid January :fingerscrossed:) 2. Take 3-5 private lessons (waiting to do it once my shoulder feels better) 3. get my swing in a good enough place (hopefully thanks to lessons) that I can start focusing more on my short game and putting to lower my scores 4. The big one and if I accomplish the goals above I think this one will take care of itself: CONSISTENCY 5. Maintain a handicap at 7 or below (currently hopping back from 10-12). Again if I accomplish 1-4 this one will take care of itself
  20. The guy to the left in that first picture is pretty much exactly what my hands look like
  21. Quote: The only problem I can see that you might have is getting that rear arm position together with your desired straight front arm. Then again you could abandon the straight front arm My front arm used to bend quite a bit until I took a few tips from people on here. It's what got me all concerned with my hands/arm position at the top of my backswing. I think I like the straight front arm, it makes me more consistent for sure Quote: jand the secret is in the hips to slide not rotate. i beleive theres a post about it somewhere its quite good. Yes this is probably my biggest swing key right now. If I notice I'm hitting the ball poorly often it's because I'm rotating my hips around instead of sliding them forward. When I slide them forward I hit the ball, much, much cleaner and more accurate
  22. I guess everything I've ever seen or heard talks about higher hands. But yea if this works for me I'm going to keep doing it. I'm a tall guy like Kuch (though not quite as tall) so maybe this is my solution!!! Pro tour here I come.... :-)
  23. Yes like the Kuch! I new there was a pro that swung like that and I couldn't think of who it was.
  24. So when I get my hands up in the proper position at the top, with a 90 degree right elbow and a straight left arm, with my hands up where they should be (confirmed with videos) I have very inconsistent striking and I slice the ball. Now, when I drop my hands lower, where my right elbow is almost touching my ribs at the top of my backswing, I hit the ball great, perfect ball flight and solid contact 80% of the time. Obviously I know this isn't the best way to hit a golf ball but I sure am going to hit it this way when I'm on the course until I can figure out how to hit it correct with proper form at the range. Anybody know why my swing is like that? here is a picture to help you visualize what I mean. Instead of my hands being here they are much lower, imagine if his right elbow was only 4-5 inches away from his body.
  25. What I've found out about putting that almost always works is this one simple key... If I hit my approach shot inside of 10 feet my putting stats are amazing, lots of one and two putts and very few 3 putts. I think I discovered the secret to great putting!
