  1. I checked exactly on the start of my back swing but it likely to be a bit before hand. My problem at times is my shift starts too early and I pull my shots left...they go far but off-line
  2. I'm happy for Monty and his wife. To me, golfing and kilts are a natural fit. see pictures.
  3. I would happen to agree with post above. IMHO, it's important to keep in mind that your precision in which you measurement the distance be tempered by the accuracy of your shot making My golf game is usually very precise but not always accurate I have been on courses that with GPS in the carts which is nice to provide an overview of the hole with distances to certain features.
  4. Hi ZG, I just recently went through this search. I settled for a complete set from Prince. It was about $350 w/o taxes for 10 clubs (1,3, 5 woods, 4 & 5 hybrids, 6-P irons). Not the first name in golf but I did not want to special order a set from a "better" known golf name. I did look around the web and many different golf shops. You can usually find good deals on lefty sets both iron and woods. Doing the math it was starting to get more $ than my wife would have wanted (think thrifty) by piecing together different sets. Good Luck on your search.
  5. I voted for Scotland. It's the birth place of golf and I'm scottish Where ever you go, have fun and post about it when you get back.
  6. 56 degree wedge MR I love it I just need to get more like a 52 and 60 degree wedges to help fill in the gaps.
  7. For me, I prefer to be on the course hitting different shots. Lately I have been going to the range alot more with the family. The range time is mostly for the family but I do bring 1 or 2 clubs to work on. This focused work seems to be helpful and fun.
  8. In the comment above he referring to us Righties...it's the upper hand that holds the club. Another option, I beleive someone also mentioned, is to change your grips. Talk with a golf shop person to see if that can fatten your grips to allow you to hold it better without 'over gripping' it. Good Luck
  9. I'm a hydrogeologist who works for a local government agency.
  10. are few questions for ya? Does your thumb on the upper (right hand - you lefty) go down the shaft or around? What about your lower hand thumb? What postion does it natural lie? For me (a righty) my upper left hand thumb points down the shaft and my lower (right) hand rolls slight over and down the shaft. For me, my upper hand thumb sits in the "notch of the lower hand". "notch of the lower hand" to find this area move your thumb toward your pinkie...it just occurred to me that I'm really double jointed in my thumbs and others might not have this "notch"...it's the area where the lines of your hand meet your wrist.... Since you have been getting blisters, you need to loosen your grip. The club should be held by the middle, ring and pinkie fingers of your upper hand. The lower hand is going for the ride. Good luck.
  11. It must be what he was in 1997. I guessing he has put on at least 20 pounds of muscle in the past few years. As far as clubhead speed, it's been too many years but it's about 110 or so.
  12. My 2008 goals are simple: 1. Play more golf. I think I play about 10 rounds last year. 2. Join a local club so I can play more golf. 3. Bring the family along: 3a. My wife is learning to play. To play a few rounds with her alone. 3b. To bring my son, Cameron (7), out on the course. 3c. To bring my son, Quinlan (4), to the range more often...maybe the course. If I can make those items happen, then I'll update my goals.
  13. Boy, there are some nice courses in the PNW. I can't wait to play more. I got a gift card to play Chambers Bay. Just waiting for the weather to improve. I have to agree with many recommendations to Gold Mountain.
  14. I have heard a lot of good comments about OGIO and Sun Mountain bags. I bought a Sun Mtn 3.5 Lite bag. It's really really light (3.5 pounds) hence the name The main reason for choosing them over OGIO was the sale the golf shop was having at that moment. It was a funky color - burnt orange - think easy to see. Speaking about bags...I recently bought my wife a set of clubs which came with a bag. Boy, what a lousy bag. Having a nice, comfortable bag makes walking the course more enjoyable independent of one's score.
  15. Definitely a blade person. I love my Bulleyes. I can switch hit if I am so incline...something I tried a while back. I putted left handed when within 6 feet.
  16. It's been 10+ years since I bought new irons or woods. Those items were about $300 for tour precision irons and $50 for a Big Bertha 3 wood (only wood). My BullsEye Putter is twice as old as that I don't even re-call how much I paid for it. My recent purchases were also as much as above: Sun Mtn Bag ~$120 Etonic shoes ~$90 Mizuno Wedge ~50
  17. I can understand your frustration. I played a few rounds on a borrowed set of old forged irons and I con't get the distances correct. I was continuely short...you would l think I would learn few a few stokes It seems similar to your posting... I can hit my 7 iron 170 yds. But the forged irons would only go about 150. Eventually I learned "it is what it is". This means you need to re-configure your distances with your new clubs and forget about the old distances. think of it as more time to play golf. Good Luck and remember to enjoy. Cheers, Eric
  18. I would agree with the original posting that Exec and/or Par 54 courses are a great way to learn as well as work on your skills. This is the way I learned and will likely be the way my boys learn the game. I much prefer to play & practice then going to the range. FYI...this is my first post. Cheers, Eric
